i am so proud of vikram for getting this far. he must have been very very emotional about that big finish. i think he had tears coming out of his eyes.
Many things that went wrong on this year's bee: - the backstage interview was unnecessary, they didn't give those children some space to process their loss, people who had participated in bees before know how hard it is to leave the stage just because of a word they didn't know or had not studied, and it seemed like the side stage couch was removed. - vocabulary rounds should be removed, EVER at the semifinals and finals round. Imagine losing at a *"SPELLING"* bee just because you don't know the meaning of a word, which only a few people know by heart. Not only is it unfair because of the varying difficulty of the word, but also the challenge it gives to those kids. Take for example, Kirsten Santos, who went out in the finals because she doesn't know the meaning of bastille, supposed she knew the French Revolution, there's just no other way a Grade 6 elementary student would guess that word. - the spell-off round is unjust and unreasonable. The essence of the Bee must focus on how the dictionary and etymology can help the children understand and learn the English language and the many languages of the world, not how many words you can spell under two minutes. It's also unfair to spellers who have speech impediments and hearing problems because they would need to muster more attention and energy in one word when someone like Harini-she deserves the title, don't get me wrong here-can fast talk those words with ease. - the awful cut between each spellers and ads is killing me. It started so long and now they were rushing to the end. The atmosphere then started to choke me lol - Interviewing Vikram after the contest is just soooo mean and inhumane. They know the kid is about to cry because he just lost a title, and Burton casually talks to him as if losing was just like any other day of his life. Give the spotlight to Harini instead. This is not to say the whole Bee was a mess, there are also some small details I applaud SNSB for doing so. They finally used a "harder" set of words from the dictionary, including botanical and some scientific words. I also love the affirmations and encouragement after some spellers misspelled their words. The whole Bee was a rollercoaster for sure, I hope they read reviews and recheck and reformat their rules because the Spelling Bee spirit is starting to die each year. Edit: - I forgot to add about the reporters. Please replace the woman beside Paul Loeffler, she sounds encouraging but she literally brings nothing to the table. At least, bring some facts or info about the word or the spellers.
Spelling is as much knowing the meaning of words as knowing the letters in the words. I think the introduction of the vocabulary round is a necessary addition to a potentially unchanging and boring competition.
Oh my gosh as someone living abroad, both due to geography blockers and time differences, I could not watch this at all. Thank you so much for posting this!

I am a fan of spelling Bee. In Jamaica we have school challenge quiz. I enjoy these competitions. These are the great men and women the future. Kudos to everyone who enter the competition .
Hi , Americans do not go to India thinking yiu can get smart kids like this to adopt . These are kids who are pure bred for 5009 plus years. No pun intended
Why are they all Indians? They're also from different states within the country Do Indians have separate personal spelling bee competitions before showing up for the scripts.
lol half of the kids that made it to the finals got out in the vocabulary rounds. no offense to some of these amazing spellers but you have to study some vocabulary at least. bastille? come on
Past years clearly try to 😅 fixings the actual winner ...who would be an indian ..but afrer seeing too much india . Foreigner do anything to change the winninr.
@Barry Obama hmmm but by this logic, they shouldn't have implemented the vocab round on the final day since they would have fulfilled their agenda of narrowing down their field. Even so, they could have reverted back to the heavily root-based vocab round like last year
@Barry Obama yeh I do see that it's needed to thin down the field quicker for the prelims and semis, but maybe it isn't a good idea for the finals :( I mean, they even had to use really simple words midway through the finals to ensure the chances of elimination were minimised :(
I think it was incredibly sweet of the judges to give a custom goodbye after each elimination.
Kinda crazy how the winner almost got eliminated in the word definition round. Amazing comeback

Loved what he said at 1:14:26, this kid is so bright
It's also refreshing to see Dave Letterman finally find his niche.

THANK YOU! Just lost my regional bee, and it hurts so much. Spelling is hard enough. We DONT need vocabulary.

I live in the Philippines, I watched it thru VPN, I WISH they bring it back in ESPN, it's so hard to find some contact for the cable
@@rootsOfMadness15 I know, right? It was a lot easier to access too
I guess 11 out of the 13 finalists are of Indian descent!
To be fair, Indians are a lot more likely to enter into these types of competitions
Why aren’t a certain demographic of kids not entering? If you are so concerned of the race of the kids. I see a bunch of kids with a bright future
That word meaning round is something new and wow that is tough. I appreciate how it evolved over the years especially since I watch it every year.
Harini, I am impressed and you are inspiring. May we meet one day. Amen.

I just love when indians win spelling bee finals
Indian kids do so well at spelling bees cuz they get a lot of practice spelling their family member’s names 😅
Anybody have a link to the Semifinals?
Wala afaik, may Indonesian friend ako na nirecord yung buong Bee pero matagal na siyang inactive
@ 53:15 Thank god I have played Super Mario Galaxy so many times. I knew this right away :D
Year in, year out, Indians or of those with Indian-blood dominate the Spelling Bee.👍
Is there a link to 2023 finals?
So there will be no co champions anymore instead... a new tie-breaker round!!
They should’ve done a spell-off in 2019! I know, right!
I am a fan of spelling Bee. In Jamaica we have school challenge quiz. I enjoy these competitions. These are the great men and women the future. Kudos to everyone who enter the competition .
And Jamaica should be proud of their 1998 champion!!! Jodi-Ann Maxwell I think. She had such great poise and won with chiaroscurist
way to go Harini!
this is NOT surya's first bee! he was at bee week in 2019. Get your facts straight scripps.
you are absolutely right dev

Children of Indian origin excel at spellings❤
Is It only for imigrant?
No, but many participate in the Spelling Bee
I feel like the stress isn’t good on some of these children. So sad tbh. That second place kid was about to have a panic attack. Poor little fella.
he was really emotional. totally understandable.
Looks like you have never seen a kid in competition
Competition is good for kids. These kids are just so far from normal. Not trying to be mean just the truth.
they are aware of the stress and they did the best they could
WOW that's is cool

yes there are the Northsouth Foundation and South Asian Spelling bees which are only for indians.
Indians have dominated the spelling bee since forever.
First of all, these are not Indian's. They're are American of Indian origin.
And plz stop this hate against the India origin people.
They are Americans.
Congratulations harini🥳🥳

Way to go Indians👍..... hip hip hurrah...
btw just to clarify, yash and deetya shouldve been in finals. vocab screwed them over. they are 100x better than these top 2
How do u know they are better?
