Really, really, really miss this version. Back when you learned a lot more about how they made their products compared to the version they have now which is more on the entertainment side of things.

I live in Hershey and have many fond childhood memories of going to Chocolate World and riding this version and its immediate successor. I'm 18, and now when I ride it, it's 8 minutes of my life I can never get back. So i agree, this version and the one immediately after were FAR better and are greatly missed!

Remember seeing this when I was little. Went back again in 2018, and I feel like it lost some of its authenticity. I miss getting the full size Hershey bar at the end of the tour. Now, I do not think they even give you a fun size bar. Thanks for sharing.
man, I'm not really the type to say all old things were good and whenever they changed it it got worse, but there's just something about the pre-2009 version of the tour ride that is missing these days.
You're welcome! I was 3 when the video was shot (you can hear a little kid voice every now and then, that's me). My dad shot it with an old VHS video camera. We have other Hershey footage that I'd like to add eventually, including footage of Hersheypark's mini golf before it was removed.

Yeah i did hear the kid in the background. :) I was overjoyed though after i listened to the song at the end, it took me awhile too to find this one cause i had to find out when the renovations occurred to get a video of before that. I also posted it on facebook so my family can hear it too they miss the old ride too. :)
My family went to Hershey Park in either 1992 or 1993 as one of the stops on a road trip we took. My sister and I had the song stuck in our heads for the rest of the trip, since this was the last attraction we went on before we left the park.
I miss this version so bad! I was down in Hershey last month at a Hershey Bears game and went on the ride, as you do when in Hershey. It's all different and I don't care for how drastic the change is. Worst part of the current rendition of the ride is that they no longer have the ultra fun to sing along to Hershey's Chocolate World theme song.

I have videos of this version in its entirety from 1994 / 95. 1995 being the first year with the on-ride photo camera installed. I also have short clips of this version from 1989, 90 and 96 and full versions of the last version (1998) and the current version. IMO, I miss the version the most out of the last two updates. But I find the current version not to be bad at all. I like the cows, they make it fun! By the way, I'd LOVE to see the Hersheypark footage! You "must" get it up ASAP!! lol!

Okay, THIS is the version I remember from when I was a kid. i went here about once a year growing up. So, is the 70's looking computer console with all the blinking lights a left over remnant from the robot version? Looking at it now, it definately seems out of place with the rest of the ride, but I never questioned it as a kid. I never actually saw the robot version in person (as far as I remember) but I think I'd prefer that over the Cows. They're so annoying. Love that song at the end!!

Hell yeah ! We used to ride it so many times in 86 and 87. Season passes at home and as a Milton Hershey School student. They went and screwed it up bad with the change. The new one is just horrifying and I refuse to take my kids. Fucking singing cows. We used to hop out and ride the rail. I got caught the first year thay put in cameras and got taken off the ride. Got a back stage tour on my way out. Man , my grandfather was pissed. My brother went into the test kitchen part.
@jc013 Yea, it's changed quite a bit, but there are still parts of the park that have remained themselves, like Comet Hollow and Minetown, which remind me of the good ol' days.
They had shut down the ride for a huge refit back in the 90s and re-launched it where there was some doofus in a hardhat and an incredibly annoying robot; people HATED it. I think there was a really gnarly jump scare in there too, but I don't remember it. They took that stuff out after less than a year, if I remember correctly, and switched it to what you see here. Some of the leftovers include that weird "master computer" set.
I like the second one instead of the third version where there is too many cows. The second one only had a little bit of cows and the music was kinda better. This version is also good too
NJTGaming Is that the version that had a mother baking in the kitchen? I remember there being a prop kitchen and a mannequin of a lady in an apron baking cookies. That was probably in the early 80s though 🤔

This video is I believe the third version of the tour. The first version had a "test kitchen" at the end and around 4:30 of this video it showed chocolate mixing not spinning lights. The second version of the tour (around 1988) was based on a space robot. The robot version of the ride was a lot worse the the current singing cows.

No, this is the automated tour ride inside Chocolate World. This is the 3rd version of the ride. I believe they used to give live factory tours, but it got so crowded that they opened up Chocolate World instead and designed this ride as a replacement to giving people tours of the actual factory.

The 1991 version was way too didatic, the 1981 version was a lot more like Disneyland/worlds Its A small world ride.
