I read a study that concluded the temp of the barrel had a greater affect on velocity than the temp of the powder. But put them both together and you can see a huge velocity swing. Ammo sitting in the sun at 95* and a hot barrel after 10 shots would probably shoot close to 100fps faster than a single shot sitting in a deer stand in 40* weather. I've got a rifle with a match barrel and I've noticed lot to lot variations from one box of ammo to the next affect accuracy. This rifle shoots nice small groups when the velocity is around 3015, but opens up considerably at 3080. That's Federal Fusion 270 130 gr. I’m not surprised with the results. When you picked up the silvertip I thought “ this will be the biggest group”. Sure enough it was. I’ve not had luck with silvertip ammo in any rifle or caliber. But accubonds are great. Those are target ammo accurate and will drop game. I’ve got a couple bull elk on my wall that will attest to the performance of accubonds.
Bet you can get a rifle with the boss system on it dialed in for a tight group. Remember that a rifle barrel vibrates and needs tuning just like a guitar string.
Similar results to what I've seen in multiple calibers with those bullets. The Silvertips I wouldn't use unless they were my only choice, and not over 100 yards. The ABLR is my preferred bullet since it is less velocity dependent for expansion, and has been very accurate in every caliber I've tried it on. The Matchkings are, well.... king. I haven't really experimented with the "yellow tips" since I've had so much success with the ABLRs.
@@5roundsrapid263 depends on how you define better. This round has better long range ballistics and is significantly better for long range hunting. I haven't run the ballistics, but based on advertised specs, it'd really start to show its better ballistics after 1000 for general long range shooting.
@@Nathan_King I’m never going above 1000 yards. I’m sure it’s better out at that distance, but I doubt I’ll ever be shooting from mountaintop to mountaintop.
I was never ashamed to admit, that despite impressive strength, even when I was young never liked light rifles in magnum or near -magnum calibers. So my rifles in that category are between 8.5 - 10.2 lbs without accessories. Also, no matter what experts may think, for me such rounds necessitate a 26 inch barrel albeit somewhat inconvenient in some areas / terrains. No doubt that 6.8 Western is a decent round fully adequate for elk and even beyond...
Ive noticed , when I could get it ,165 ,180, Supreme Silvertip and 180 Silvertip in my 3006 , run very close to same . I took regular 180 Silvertip Winchester, in bad brush, made one of the logest kills , took 8seconds for the buck to fall from trigger pull , I belive he fell on contact though, looked very small through the Leopold scope all the way up
Never had opportunity to shoot more than about a 100yds. From what I hear/read about hunting out west, 300 yds is as normal as a 75 yd woods shot is here, lol. Thats the tool for that job! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
BC is measured against one of 2 standards: G1 and G7. G7 is for more of the modern bullets. Prolly should use the G7 standard for these ammos. I think he said G1 was on the box. I’m still learning about this stuff…
WHO TEE WHO. Thank you sir. Great work. Looking forward to you reaching out to greater distances with the 6.8. Perhaps a comparison to another caliber or two at greater distances?
FYI: 6.8 MM IS .270". It's a true 270 caliber in metric terminology. The Win 270 WSM has similar performance.but the 6.8 has a higher rate of twist to stabilize beaver bullets.

But accubonds are great. Those are target ammo accurate and will drop game. I’ve got a couple bull elk on my wall that will attest to the performance of accubonds.
I really like this one a lot! It packs a mean punch.
💪💪
Great shooting
Damn you're getting close to a million subscribers only another twenty years to go
👍👍
Not twenty years! More like 1 year
Nice.
Love the 6.8 western caliber.😁❤👍👍👍
Thanks for watching Bill
I agree, the older I get the more I like fall and winter. I work in the heat and it sucks.
cool i like when you do these videos i think it is cool when you get the same hole shots
Always appreciate you watching
Good video, now you have me interested in that rifle and cartridge. Making me want to spend some money!
🤣🤣🤣
Great work ! Get some lead for the lead sled and it will help
Thanks for watching!
Glad I heard about this caliber before I jumped into 6.5 Creedmore. This stuff looks sweet.
6,5 prc???
6.5 Creedmore will have notably less recoil and longer barrel life if that matters to you. 6.5PRC is a more direct comparison.
@@Nathan_King 6.5 CM has about half the recoil. This cartridge is nice, but it’s not better than 6.5 Creedmoor.
Very nice , Thanks
Man that was good shooting!
Try the silvertip on a cold bore the barrel was too hot and it started to walk the bullets by the last set of rounds
It would be great if Browning, Winchester, and hopefully other vendors would ramp up ammunition production with a lower cost.
The 170 Gr Match load did much better than the 175 Gr load that you used to sight it in .
i think you need stronger rings for that heavy hitter, might tighten up those groups
Stay tuned.....I had to get better rings
It would be very interesting to see you shoot the same gun and ammo grouping with temperature at 50 degrees or lower. Grouping might drop in half.
Ive noticed , when I could get it ,165 ,180, Supreme Silvertip and 180 Silvertip in my 3006 , run very close to same . I took regular 180 Silvertip Winchester, in bad brush, made one of the logest kills , took 8seconds for the buck to fall from trigger pull , I belive he fell on contact though, looked very small through the Leopold scope all the way up
Last ammo walked with the wind back n forth but still pretty good vertical Wise.
Never had opportunity to shoot more than about a 100yds. From what I hear/read about hunting out west, 300 yds is as normal as a 75 yd woods shot is here, lol. Thats the tool for that job! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
That was a great #short today on the Sig P239.
Good shooting as usual. I appreciate all this information. 👍☕😎
Thanks for watching Peter
Getting it ready for Hunting season 🦌
Absolutely
"Fingah bangah, fingah bangah, da more u fingah da more u bangah."
Made that up in 1998 at the range with my gf. Practice makes perfect 😁
👍🔥🦅 That match grade impressive
Hope this takes off. I think its a keeper
Good shooting !!
👍👍💥💥💥
I always use the 165 gr accubonds are an awesome bullet!
Didn't know until now that ballistic coefficient is the opposite of a cars coefficient where the lower # means less drag. Thanks Dt. Who! 👍
BC is measured against one of 2 standards: G1 and G7. G7 is for more of the modern bullets.
Prolly should use the G7 standard for these ammos. I think he said G1 was on the box. I’m still learning about this stuff…
We all appreciate you
WHO TEE WHO.
Thank you sir. Great work.
Looking forward to you reaching out to greater distances with the 6.8. Perhaps a comparison to another caliber or two at greater distances?
Good idea. Appreciate you watching William
ive had similar results with the silver tip ammo, not sure why it was but i quit using it and switched to the browning or federal and no issues since
I am impressed,
Man that 6.8 looks promising. 6.8 western vs 300wsm! Clay block challenge!
Hot or not out side. elk session starts the 15th. Here in wyoming . And I'm not missing opening day
Good luck! I am jealous
Beware of having ammo in the sun, pressure can exceed max, and You may have bigger difference in POI if they do not have the same temperature.
High BC with light bullet weight is good (Credmore). High BC with heavy bullet weight is great for hunting long range killing efficiency.
Awesome!!!!
Nothing wrong with all those groups, who tee, but that Match ammo is awesome. You need to find some more of that...😁
Always looking for more ammo
Awesome! 😀
I'd like you to compare it to the 7mm mag
FYI: 6.8 MM IS .270". It's a true 270 caliber in metric terminology. The Win 270 WSM has similar performance.but the 6.8 has a higher rate of twist to stabilize beaver bullets.
My beaver bullets are 17 HMR.
