Luke - This was so darn helpful, I can't thank you enough - There are loads of Waterfall tutorials out there, but this one was the only one that I found the really nicely dealt with multiple measures. Thank you so much. Also, the way you paste your formulas into the description... Big time saver.
Thanks for the amazing solution. Is it possible to build a similar visualization using only main data source or using the main data source as Primary since using your solution I am having problems applying the filter. The scenario is that on the dashboard I have multiple visualizations, few being from main data source and the waterfall from this solution but I can't have my filters working for all visualizations together. I can't use joins, any alternate solution you can suggest? Thanks
Awesome video! Thank you so much! As a side note, with the newer versions of Tableau (with Relationships), you can add the 'Values' data sources onto the same data source (relationship join on calculation 1=1), then you dont need to blend and wont have issues with filtering
@@SophGalea Well, the only difference from the video will be the data source. Instead of having 2 data sources and blending, you will have 1 In the data sources, drag in the 'Values' data source (as a relationship), then the 'Edit Relationship' window will pop up. Then, you have to specify the relationship field. From there, just select 'Create Relationship Calculation' on the first data source, type in the value 1, and do the same on the 'Values' data source ('Create Relationship Calculation' and type in 1). And then the rest of the steps in the videos follows the same. Hope this helps
@@francoismeintjes8621 This is very interesting, thank you so much, if that works, so you are a life saver...but out of curiosity how did that work? what's the logic behind it?
A perhaps important caveat that this approach won't work with Server/Online-based data sources, which don't support Relationships. But if you're just using non-Server data sources then I found it to work well.
@@alexbcook I have it published in a server environment, and it still works. It is however very slow, but we don't seem to be experiencing issues with Relationships on Server - haven't tested on Online though.
@datacoach - It would appear that the most recent version of Tableau requires a blend and in the most recent update there is no longer a "record count" field available to join on. Any update on this video to take the recent tableau version into account would be great!
Thanks! was able to recreate it myself. Important to mention is that the filters you apply from the merged datasource can't be applied to other graphs that are also using the merged datasource.

So, I need to add two filters in the dashboard (one for waterfall and other for the rest of view). How can I connect both filters? Tks.

Hey - First, thanks a lot, very useful. I tried this and this worked the first time, but I'm trying to do another waterfall in a different sheet and I cannot because a blend relationship needs to be created. How can I blend this two data sources? Thx
Thanks for your video. I used the same methods to do my waterfall chart. But after I blend the data and add the filter from the secondary dataset (original data), it gave me an error message "cannot blend the secondary data source because one or more fields use an unsupported aggregation". How to solve that
