My grandfather was a talented RC and scratch model builder. He was part of one of these clubs and made a meter-long replica of the HMS Tally-Ho which he served on. Fully submersible and highly detailed. Also experimented with a larger scale model of a 2-man sub that shot torpedos which was super awesome.
I knew a guy who built a fully functional Type VII. First was able to dive using its depth rudders, later he added ballast tanks as well. Awesome model. Sure it got lost in some underwater plants like every single show and had to be rescued by divers, but still it was the star.

I think he was going for the three colors on a submarine. Algae wouldn’t grow that much to leave a mark. The colors are black - top, Purple - midline(where the primer green is) and Red on the bottom. It’s a fantastic replica job! Just one minor tweak woulda been perfect.
The first time I saw an RC submarine was back in the early 90's and it had waterproof cameras that transmit images back to the remote, and it even had a Periscope camera! 👍
I'll never forget back in the late 90s at my local eletric boat club they use the public pond on Sundays. What I thought was a eel was a massive rc sub. I was hooked on rc after that. Now I fly rc helicopters 🚁
