Gotta say i really appreciate the time and thought you've spent on these info packed videos, theres just not enough time in my day to even try compiling all the data you've put together for me! Thank you for another great video!
hi Kevin I appreciate the feedback. I am happy to do it because i see just how many people are finding the Data usefull. Thanks for being a Subscriber (Ronen)
I really benefited from your channel. Starting here in U S as a new driver. Now I got to see the picture of the industry. Your job is straight forward, easy to understand, honest, and every thing with evidence awesome job. Please keep it up!!!
This is the 2nd comparison video I've seen on this channel where the take-home pay is skewed, because income taxes are withheld from a company driver whereas the lease-operator or owner-operator's "net" does NOT reflect any income taxes. I'm puzzled why he briefly mentions taxes, but doesn't make a true comparison.
Simple.. start as a company driver learn the game learn the business learn how to run a business, live within your means and pay off your debts if you have any, save for your down payment then finance your truck with your good credit after about 3 yrs…. Then Boom, owner operator, lease on to a great company or one you’ve done your research on and taddah!
I'm constantly trying to explain to drivers that if they would just simply move 2 or 3 of my loads every week they would gross $200,000 to $300,000 annually. It's only a 500 mile trip, or 1000 miles round if you deadheaded back empty. Does any flatbed carrier care to make sense of this? Why would you not want guaranteed loads? Here is the math: Moving 2 loads per week $2000/load x 2 = $4000/wk $4000 x 52 weeks in a year = $208,000 Gross: $200,000/yr Moving 3 loads per week $2000/load x 3 = $6000/wk $6000 x 52 weeks in a year = $312,000 Gross: $300,000/yr Distance: 500 miles (5 miles per gallon at $3.40 per gallon fuel price) Fuel costs: $350/Trip
Go to your accountant and your lawyer find out how much it cost to setup a corporation. Probably more than you think it is and then talk to your accountant about Corporate tax rates and your personnel tax rates to find out just how much really ends in your pocket. Don't forget that those repair bills can easily climb to a third of that gross for if you have a bad year and then some years the cost of fuel will be much higher. The reason that the company offers these programs is because it benefits them financially.
I didn't spend over 1,000 for everything it was very easy and you get to participate in Tax advantages you wouldn't otherwise qualify for. Don't wait to setup your corp. Huge disservice to anyone who waits not to mention you're putting your business at risk workout it
I think my company 2018 T800 is getting around 5.3mpg. When they bought it I’m sure they just walked in and said give me that pretty white one LOL Depending on which trailer I’m pinned to I’m 43000-53000 LBS empty and it’s specked out all wrong in my opinion. It’s not the worst I’ve ever had, but definitely not the best. Heavy hauling is terrible for mileage. Keep the great information coming Ronen, we all appreciate it. 👍👍
Great video. I wish you were around when I first started. I lasted 2 years as a company driver and got so fed up (worked for a couple of horrible companies). I gave it up and started working local for a construction company til I managed to get employed with the city in which I live as a heavy equipment operator. I am a supervisor now and have a good pension plan and benefits and make slightly more than the company driver in this example. So things worked out for me in the end. But, had I had your advice back when I started, I may have still been driving as an owner operator or lease operator. Keep up the great work.
I like your Facts. That is the truth. Not just people making comments with nothing to back it up. It's just all talk. I LEASED a car once. Drove off lot with it. No down payment. When we got a new Vehicle that we were BUYING, the Lease turn in, we payed through are nose for car. The only time I saw a good Lease program was my friends mom, got a Leased car each year from the company that she did all there auto body repair for. My friends mom ran a auto body repair shop on her property. She got a NEW car each year. I know you hit on insurance. What happens when a Lease truck is wrecked. You do NOT want to wreck a Leased vehicle.
I really appreciate your transparency and honesty about this and your willingness to tell and teach the truth about this. There's many that are mislead in the industry. It really sucks for someone when they make a decision to make a change based on what they may have been told only to find out they got lied to and taken advantage of and now they still have to pay bills and support families etc. You can only go so long without making money in this or anything.
Thank you for sharing. I am learning a lot from you. Im not in the US or Canada but want to immigrate to Canada this year and change my profession from and IT Technician to a Truck Driver. Thank you so much for sharing
Thank you for comparison. In my opinion, you should add $5K meals expenses for lease operator if did for the company driver. Although I am not a driver, my career is relating to logistics in Canada. Since the Covid19, I keep hearing shortages of drivers from the vendors (carriers). Their drivers always complain long hours, low pays and high fuel prices. I understand the drivers suffer from losses during hours of wait times if paid by mileages. The carriers charge their customers wait times, are they paying back to the drivers? Furthermore the customers pay fuel surcharges, jumping from 18% in February to over 35% against base charges since March 2022. Do the extra fuel surcharges benefit to the drivers, especially the owner/lease operators?
Thank you so much for all of the great info. I’ve been in school for three years and planned to go on to get my PhD but that seems to be slowly slipping from my grasp. I am strongly considering going back to being an owner operator. I was previously an owner operator and made some pretty big mistakes that could’ve bankrupted me, although I was fortunate enough to sell before that happened. Just in the past couple weeks watching your channel I learned what my mistakes were and what I will do to correct it in the future if I go back to the trucking industry! Thank you for ask the work you put in! Who knows, maybe I’ll work for you when you open a facility on the west coast!
Great info Sir. Tops up well on yesterday's breakdown on Van Reefer / Company pay contrast. P/s. This is the best trucking company anyone can find online. It'll deservedly hit 100k subscribers very soon!
Thank you for always producing trucking content. Currently an apprentice tech here in Alberta with dreams to one day to have my own shop. Your content is always the best.
What about income tax? What is the percentage to be paid? What are the income tax slabs? What is the income tax for drivers that you have taken as sample? Can you pls make a video on that as well? I come tac, as I understand, is one really big component. So, it is definitely important.
I watch all of your videos I can since finding you on UA-cam! Thank you for everything you do on trucking. I was a driver for 44 years in the USA and in parts of CANADA. Have been thinking about leasing and putting a driver on the truck . Been trying to find a company that essentially would operate the truck and maintain, pay the driver send each month settlement to me after everything so I could build a small fleet. I can’t drive anymore but I can’t find a company that does that any longer. There use to be a couple of outfits that did it that way. I’m still looking for them but haven’t found the category they are under in trucking. Still here!🚛🇺🇸😎
Ronen, I am a fairly new subscriber from the US and new to the trucking industry. I recently got my CDL and am exploring my options. I find all of your videos to be both educational and entertaining. Thank you so much!!!
Priceless data and really relevant information. Living and driving in Canada is looking good compared to Australia. Thank you for all your excellent videos 👍🙏
I absolutely love your work. I have been a car salesman since 1991, for either Honda or Toyota. I am almost 56 years old and I am tempted to give your industry a try. I would say I am passionate about those big trucks, I absolutely love driving and exploring new places. I am an divorced introvert that doesn’t mind spending lots of times alone. So I have lots of pluses in my favour for this job. 3 things actually concerns me though. 1.- Am I getting too old for such a move in career? 2.- The cost of the course to get my CDL? 3.- How easy, or hard, will it be for a guy my age with no experience to actually find a job in your industry? I currently live in Moncton, NB, and you guys are actually looking for new drivers right now…
I never did lease and I start as the company driver . And buy my 1th truck , my credit was not the best but was ok. And today I still buy from dealer so I can move eny time I want if I can't have the opportunity I will never lease for sure
Great video very informative! I am actually very surprised event about the amount of money the company driver could actually take home. Hopefully you guys will still be around in 10 years when I retired (just waiting to get my full pension) and start my second career as a truck driver, hopefully long haul in the US!
I am reefer mechanic that's brokering for a large leasing company. I bought my service truck and pay $495 every two weeks... I have built enough wealth in my corporation to buy the truck outright.. why would I do that though? I was told by people the truck payment go towards a right off.. Great videos. Definitely learning a lot

Very interesting content!!! Very useful to know 143.000 miles per year at 0,70 a mile brings home 81.000$!! And if I lease would be 130.000$!!! Thank you very much for sharing your data!!Appreciated!!!
As someone who's new and about to go to trucking school, I have a question for you experienced flat-bed truckers out there: About how many times per day do you usually need to strap/tarp down your cargo? Like is it just a couple times per day, or is it common to get loaded up and need to strap/tarp everything down like 12 times per day?
Hi Sir, very informative video you've made here. And all of your videos, I'm from the Philippines, but very interested in all the information you're giving about trucking. I wanted to be a truck driver there in Canada, hopefully someday. Keep up your video making Sir, and keep safe always.
Thank you Ronen you make me feel to come with you. your information is beyond whatever one want's in Trucking. Keep up with the good work you inspire us 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑
How many weeks of paid vacation do you have in Canada? In europe we have 5 - 6 weeks of paid vacation every year some have even more like working for the state and muncipalties. In sweden we even get more paid for vacation than we would have got working and I believe that is common in europe. That is excluding public holidays. In average we have 8,5 working days public holidays in sweden a year. A full week is 5 days or 40 hours but in some countries much less.
Just trying to understand. The 131,000 was how much the company made? For him to put money into his personal account he would have to pay himself and pay taxes on that money. So technically that number is not net correct? The 81,000 is net pay after taxes. I would assume the better comparison would be 107,000 vs 132,000. Am I right?
Things you have to consider before being a lease operator is that most companies won’t allow you to take loads from other carriers or companies and balloon payments…. To me if your beholden to the company and can’t except loads outside the company you’re not really an owner operator just a glorified company driver…..
Gotta say i really appreciate the time and thought you've spent on these info packed videos, theres just not enough time in my day to even try compiling all the data you've put together for me! Thank you for another great video!

These are the video that created the gold rush in trucking
Now it's swamped with trucks outthere and rates have plummeted
I've been a driver for 36 years now and enjoy your informative vids.
Awesome! Thank you!

How’s trucking been for you brother? I just got hired for P&S Transport. Doing flatbed division. Start orientation Monday!
This is the 2nd comparison video I've seen on this channel where the take-home pay is skewed, because income taxes are withheld from a company driver whereas the lease-operator or owner-operator's "net" does NOT reflect any income taxes. Moving 2 loads per week
$2000/load x 2 = $4000/wk
$4000 x 52 weeks in a year = $208,000
Gross: $200,000/yr
Moving 3 loads per week
$2000/load x 3 = $6000/wk
$6000 x 52 weeks in a year = $312,000
Gross: $300,000/yr
Distance: 500 miles
(5 miles per gallon at $3.40 per gallon fuel price)
Fuel costs: $350/Trip
Do they drive back empty or is there a load for them to carry back?
@S&L logistics, please post your email

Great comparisons, thanks! I’m wanting to be an O/O and these videos are helpful!
This is very encouraging, they both make almost the same if the lease operator pays himself. Love it.
Great video. Probably the best content for aspiring truckers out there.
Thanks for all the videos that your have done it’s good for us new drivers who just want to start to get in this industry
totally agree.
Hope it helps, stay tunned, lots more great videos to come.

Ronen, you're like the "60 Minutes" of trucking! Keep it up!!!
Ronen, you do a terrific job explaining this stuff. And the visuals are so important. This helps with making decisions.
very use full videos...about trucking.
Same as with the Refer Division comparison, the driver number is after taxes but the lease operator is before taxes. So, not an equal comparison. :?

Most insightful, TY for the breakdown.
OUTSTANDING research!!
Hey Ronen! Amazing video really enjoyed it as usual. The videos are really clean and easy to understand. Good luck for 2022
Hey, thanks! Happy 2022!
This is very appreciated RonEn! The videos you and your ppl have done are big learning curves for myself!

Great video brother keep it up 💯
Great information here. I'd still like to marry money, BUT, maybe a whining turbo would be more profitable AND peaceful in the long run, ha, ha. On the fuel milage thing, it would be interesting to see the differences on trailers with different wind fairings and those with none. We know truck aerodynamics and engines effect milage, but where can more be squeezed from. I've even noticed those things on the back of van trailers that open up for drafts on end, are they cost effective or even help.
We have skirts on our trailers but we don’t have those wind deflectors on the back.
They say the do help with Fuel consumption, but I don’t have any to test out.
Thanks for commenting

@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News I run a 53 foot pull tight/ conestoga. I have the tarpstop2 with the self tensioner. Thank you for the intel, I start tomorrow.
Thanks for the education it's very appreciated.
thank man be blessed let me prepare myself before i join in the company
Good video we need lot of this kind of this type of content. Thank you

Nice job more of this help. Keep it up
Thank you for the information 🙏🏿 this is very useful....I been driving for 4 months and I want to become a owner operator within 2yrs

Thank you so very much for all your hard work! May you have a wonderful and blessed new year!
You are so welcome! Happy New Year!
Great data thank you. Your videos are very informative and helpful.
How much passive income can a second truck bring in?! Can’t wait for that video Ronen
working on it.
Hopefully it will launch JAN 15TH
thanks for the comment.
This is what I want to know since I plan on hiring drivers.
Very interesting content!!! Very useful to know 143.000 miles per year at 0,70 a mile brings home 81.000$!!
And if I lease would be 130.000$!!!
Thank you very much for sharing your data!!Appreciated!!!
This is gold. New subscribers
Every 150 miles you have to stop and check you load straps and make sure it’s secured
@@xpertdude3781 That's not what I was asking at all.

Am I right?
Keep producing great info
Great information. Really like all of your videos.
Thank you for following and sharing!
Things you have to consider before being a lease operator is that most companies won’t allow you to take loads from other carriers or companies and balloon payments…. To me if your beholden to the company and can’t except loads outside the company you’re not really an owner operator just a glorified company driver…..
Hi Ronen, very good information, thank you! I was wondering about what's the conditions of applying owner-operator in ET?
