RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER - Live at Longbeach Arena. You’ll get to see how amazing Bruce’s voice is live & the absolute wizardry of the band playing together.
Yesss, that's my favorite Maiden song!!
I was there in San Antonio, 1986 tour 🎸🎵🎵🎵🎵
In there prime 😉
I was 14 in 1984, when this song came out on the album Powerslave.
My first Maiden concert was June 1985 at Red Rocks in Colorado on their World Slavery Tour. (Accept was the opening band)
I just saw them in Southern California and they played this song with the expected Maiden level stage show!
UP THE IRONS !!!!!!!
Best metal band ever walked at earth . Period.
Iron Maiden is even better live!! Saw them many times in concert and they are hands down the best shows I have ever seen!
Great Reaction. I went to their concert in 2019 and it was the greatest thing i have ever witnessed. They give their all with every performance. They need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
I saw Iron Maiden live in 1992, my son saw them live in 2017. Both of us blown away by them even with so many years between the concerts, a truly amazing band.
A band I will regret never seeing.
Saw them in '91 and you are 100% correct. Up The Irons! 🤘🤘🤘
Bassist Steve Harris is an underrated MONSTER of a songwriter.
The "galloping triplets" are something of a signature of his, and his lyrics are always phenomenal.
Man, I could sit here and list of so many that should be listened too. Fear of the Dark? Hollowed Be Thy Name? Iron Maiden (the song).... Start at the beginning all the way to the end of it all!!! NWOBHM!! And we are jealous that you get to listen to all off this for the first time and have so much available and not have to wait for new music all the time for an artist like this. The ability to go "This is Awesome" and have 40 years of backlog at your disposal
Empire of the Clouds has to be up there too. Obviously I prefer their older material, but Empire is a masterpiece of musical production.
Dickensons voice is like a time machine to me, takes me right back to the 80's
I was 13 when this song came out but never heard it back then, I missed out. I only knew Wasted Years and The Evil That Men Do and those aren't their best. I think this one is their best and after this one it's The Trooper. Passchendale and Fear Of The Dark are bangers too.
Hallowed Be Thy Name - the 1982 live version
Their concerts are epic....still to this day. And yeah, they are that tight live. Up the Irons!
They put on a hell of a show. I stood in muddy water up to my knees for well over an hour just waiting for them to play. I say just waiting, I was zooting the entire time.
They killed that show. 100% would do it all again.
Fuck yeah....All Metal Concerts were off the chain. Not Maiden but I remember Clash of the Titans
Maiden fans truly love Maiden, and Maiden know who 'butters their bread' as it were and they do not disappoint, we don't mean to be all know-it-all in a dickish way, we just love the band and the fans and love sharing all we know and have experienced, we're all Blood Brothers! ~ Up The Irons!
Seen them twice live in 1991 and 2013, amazing both times. They are just as good live sometimes even better than the studio cuts. Check out Rime of the Ancient Mariner live...
Great reaction. I would love to see Hallowed be thy name or Fear of the dark. Also you should react to some live performances. Iron Maiden is maybe the best live band ever.
Totally digging the Iron Maiden reactions.
Fear of the Dark (Live in Rio 2001) is a must
Others to check out:
2 Minutes to Midnight
Ghost of the Navigators
Powerslave
Where Eagles Dare
Flight of Icarus
And probably the 2 biggest "singles" that you haven't done:
Run to the Hills
Number of the Beast
Second all of those. From an old metal head that got into Maiden in 1982.
Hallowed Be Thy Name, Phantom of the Opera and Fear of the Dark - Live versions are best! Loving the discovery you're on!
I had my junior and senior high years in the 80s. It truly was the best time to grow up. My two boys always say they wish they had grown up in my time. Bruce is one of the best voices in music. Even after throat surgery and even at the age he is now!
Maiden have been my favourite band for almost 3 decades. I love watching people begin to see why they've been a mainstay in metal for so long.
Welcome to the beautiful world of Iron Maiden. To complete your knowledge of IM, you should listen to the following songs :
- Hallowed be thy name live 1982, the lyrics will blow you away, amazing vocal performance from Bruce.
- Blood brothers live
- Dance of death live, you will be amazed by the talent of Bruce Dickinson as a storyteller
- Rime of the Ancient Mariner
I think this a good entrance to the spirit of what Maiden is about, by the talent of the writing et the band performance on stage.
That band is amazing those solos and vocals are niceeee
i got to see Maiden 5 times when i was a kid, awesome show everytime. UP THE IRONS!
Another great one, Lord Cliff. Bruce is a Master of performance on the stage. If you want to see the heights he can ascend to check out,
Iron Maiden - Dance of the Dead - En Vivo!
But don't just listen to the song. Ponder how, Bruce is maintaining such control over his breathing considering what he is doing.
Much love to everyone from here in GB. LONG LIVE THE AoD & THE SEWER RATS!!!
🙌🙌🙌🐀
Fear of the Dark live OR Run to the Hills OR Can I Play with Madness OR Seventh Son of the Seventh Son I grew up on Maiden. Great times
Yes I saw them at long Beach arena in 1984 as a teen AMAZING POWERSLAVE TOUR
So glad you did this one! The lyrics to a lot of their songs are worth a good listen - I think they say a lot more than people realise.
I'd say more than MOST people realise tbh. They cut so deep.
Your time has something that will be looked back on as golden. Turns out, for my time it was music. You won't know til later on what yours is. So, my advice is to appreciate the hell out of everything. ••• Thanks! PEACE!!!
Hi, first of all thanks for your reaction video of this fantastic song!
I'm from germany and it was a pleasure to share these emotions for music with you. Interesting is that it's just so important to bevopen minded for other genres of music, If you are into Hip Hop, Rock or electronics.
I spent my whole life, since 1989 with rap and Hip Hop, later with Techno, House, Electro and still some Hip Hop.
In the end of last year i discovered Iron Maiden for me, because i saw a german documentation called "Heavy Metal saved my life"
For 6 month now i listen to Maiden all the time. I can say: never in my whole life i felt so much passion and overwhelming emotions for music. Even in your video i had tears in my eyes, as always by listening to Maiden.
You have to know all theyr 17 Albums to realize how fantastic an unique they are. Maidens music fills my mind with all energies of life.
It is really worth to listen to all of theyr Songs. It's just fantastic...
An amazing one from them with historical value, Paschendale Live.
Seen from the very beginning till now. Still going for the moment and just as strong 💪
They just started touring again, you HAVE to go see them live! You will never see a show like it ever! They may not have too many tours left, ao dont miss your chance to see them!
KGON! :). Saw them when they came to Portland in the before-times, and it was AMAZING. This is their opening song....and it only go better from here. Up the Irons!
The Iron Maiden rabbit hole is very deep. There'll be a ton of the usual reactions, all of which are great songs and there's many I could suggest but it might be good to also do some that a lot of reactors don't do, whilst they are fantastic live a lot of their earlier stuff that's not played live regularly rarely gets reacted to, so with that in mind, here's one off each of the first seven albums for consideration as they are all fantastic albums.
1st Album Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera (should actually find a few live versions of this)
2ndAlbum Killers - Prodigal Son.
3rd Album Number Of The Beast - The Prisoner.
4th Album Piece Of Mind - Revelations.
5th Album Powerslave (the album Aces High is off) - Powerslave.
6th Album Caught Somewhere In Time - Alexander The Great.
7th Album Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son(not sure if there's any live video but the album version is probably better as there's lots of stuff going on musically) The last five minutes of this song is one of the best bits of instrumental music about IMO.
I myself am from this era of music. Also being a musician of three instruments, (guitar, drums and keyboards) songwriter and vocalist, l played in several different rock bands back then, and l think that era of music had the best live performance stage shows. There were even bands that had great background vocals but it wasn't studio singers, it was the members in the band. I was in 2 bands like that where we were all lead vocalists so we had great background vocals and harmonies. You'll never see another era of music like that again with the awesome live stage shows and great backing vocals. It's funny when you said that you were born in the wrong era because l've heard so many young people of your age reacting to these bands who are always saying that too. Great reaction.
New sub! I fell in love with their music when I was 13, now 53. Damn near took me 25 years to be able to catch up and play along with them on guitar...not perfect but pretty good :) So satisfying LOL!
Even better live, bro;-P
The best (live;) BAND in the world;-)
Up the mighty Irons!!!!!
The album powerslave is the best for me. And I started bass inspired by Steve Harris as many others did so.
This is why Iron Maiden are legends
Saw them in Sept 2022, they are still amazing ❤
Imagine being 15 16 years old and hearing this. That was me! Huge influence on my guitar playing along with Van Halen Judas Priest etcetera etcetera all the bands playing at the time. Saw them five times live and never fail to put on one of the most spectacular shows you will ever see. I think they're touring. If they ever come anywhere near you... Make the trip! You will not be disappointed. Thanks for being real. More Rush, more Iron Maiden, more System of a Down, have you ever heard of Triumph? LOL! Just a suggestion. Keep up the great work
Hi Cliff,my favourite iron maiden tunes are The evil that men do and 22 Acacia Avenue
Saw them on this tour in 1984 at Rosemont horizon near Chicago awesome show
Hell yeah. This is one of the songs and albums you cant shit on. I grew up with this. Thank you for doling this. :)
Maiden Rules!!! Piece of mind is amazing
god bless the RAF and allies that flew for us. And RIP my ancestors that died in the blitz. 🏴
This is my favorite from Iron Maiden, the song as well as the video, awesome , just awesome! The Trooper is a great one too and also Passchendale( other singer).
Iron Maiden...that is all. Up the Irons!!!
you need to do live performances to see how great they really are. they are just as good if not better live to this day,
they are all good,
Run to the hills… great song
Fear the dark live in Argentina march 7 2009. Incredible!!!
Hearing Maiden for the first few times is like a religious experience. Enjoy the ride!
The 70s and 80s... Best Era ever!
Powerslave, from this same album, is also tremendous. I know you'd like both the music and the lyrics in it!
Best maiden song!
The way they make their songs infused with the emotion and context of whatever they sing about is also something that is so gods damned amazing to me. Anyone tell me when the part: "Running, scrambling, flying. Rolling, turning, diving, going in again" comes. Tell me that you don't see dogfighting planes circling, diving in towards each other, bursts of fire whistling around you. It's short, abrupt, fast, back and forth, yet melodic and makes sense in the song.
Then the guitar solo, tell me that doesn't also inspire thoughts of the very same themes. The start of the guitar solo and the AA firing against the cluster of planes. To be hyperbolic, you could replace the actual gun sound with the frenzied guitar and it would still make sense.
To Tame a Land is one of my favorite songs. It’s about the book Dune.
So many good maiden songs. A personal favorite is flash of the blade.
Up The Irons!!! 🤘🔥😎🥰💜
İ advice you some live versions:
Poweslave
Fear of the dark
Clansman
Dance of the Deat
Paschandale
Rime of the ancient mariner
Thank you my friend!
If ever you hear Maiden is coming to town - get a fucking ticket. There are no more lovely people than Maiden people. You'll love that show!
Loving the Maiden reactions. Been a fan for 3 decades now. Got to see them with my kids❤. Seventh son of a Seventh son would be an interesting sing of theirs too check out. Different to what you've tasted so far
The drum bursts in the beginning are the exact bursts from a spitfires machine guns, you only had a total of 16 seconds sustained fire, so you had 2 - 3 bursts to sight then a 3 - 4 second kill burst.
It was love at first hearing back in 1984 and they've been my favourite band since then. 😊
7 times live at various stages of their career. Every show has been amazing
Bruce is a real monster.
Hollowed by thy name!!!!!!!!!
Outstanding picks so far from the Maiden catalog. Now you're ready for _Run to the Hills_ and then the big one- _The Number of the Beast._
This was my first heavy metal song, I think I was nine. Back in the mid-eighties my family and I would always go on holiday to Spain. There were those shops that sold postcards to send back home. Racks and racks of beaches and sunsets and bikini's and whatnot. And also pop stars, Madonna, MJ, Prince, George Michael, your typical hit charts/MTV stuff. But there was always a rack or two with these weird and creepy postcards. Megadeth, Anthrax, Motörhead, etc. And Iron Maiden's Eddie fascinated me the most. I had no clue what was going on here. So back home in the Netherlands I went to the local library and after some searching through the index cards I found out it was music. Okay. So I borrowed a tape, took it home, and put it on.
And that's the story of why I grew my hair out and became a metalhead \m/
You must check out the live version of Hallowed Be Thy Name 1982, Fear of The Dark in Chili, Rime of the Ancient Mariner flight 666 version.
The Battle of Britain.... our greatest hour.
My buddy and I were listening to music at work, we both love heavy metal and hard rock, this song was playing, we had it cranked, and the boss came by holding his ears, intimating it was too loud. He was a dutchman, came to Canada when he was older. We turned it down and asked him if he knew what the song was about. He didn't, so we explained it was about the battle of Britain.
Boss: Did we win?
Buddy and I looked at each other like... is he for real?
Me: Well if we hadn't, you'd be speaking German...
Hallowed Be Thy Name is hopefully your next Iron Maiden reaction. 😎
I'm always sweaty after hearing iron maiden
Best Maiden songs - Somewhere in Time or Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner! Two best ever!!!!
Zeplin, maiden, Sabbath, purple,to name just 4 (motorhead, Saxon etc etc) OMG
"Fear of the dark" live rock in Rio
Oh buddy. You've barely scratched the surface yet. Iron Maiden are expert storytellers. For your next one, check Dance of Death (live from En Vivo!), or Paschendale (Live from Death On the Road) .
Side note: Aces high was their encore song when I saw them in Toronto in 2012.
Good for ace, im also high
We were spoilt for choice in the 80's for Rock/Metal. Iron Maiden were probably the greatest of them all.
Consider checking out Judas Priest. English rock band. Victim of changes live is a fine example of lead singer Rob Halford 's amazing range.
Iron maiden ,the clansman live rock n RIO
Thank you..!
Trully the only band on the planet that's immortal.... Defy age.... Saw them for the 9th time in Ottawa Canada recently... The energy they bring still.... Puts shame to most teenagers
Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner -= Next!!!!
I love Aces High but I think as an aviator song, Night Witches by Sabaton is where its at.
Great reaction 👍👍
Saw maiden Columbia SC . Power slave tour, this was the opening song
Check out Hallowed Be Thy Name
Powerslave! Super dope album
Run To The Hills!!!!!!!!!! Aghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
UP THE IRONS!
Cliff, if you want lyricism, check out Alexander the Great and Revelations. Infinite Dreams is great too. Of course, all are Maiden.
Great reaction, keep the Maiden comin!!!!
Alot of the power metal bands say they were heavily influenced by Maiden. I've even heard that they inspired the whole power metal genre, I don't know if that's true or not, but I've seen a few documentaries that make that claim.
You should check out their flight 666 concert.. they even have a documentary about that particular tour flight 666 lots of information about the band and very informative if you'd like to know more
Great song. A rare short, punchy song from Maiden.
If you love the lyrics of that song then you should listen to Paschendale (WW1) and The Longest Day (WW2) both from IM.
Iron Maiden ‘the prisoner ‘ live at hammersmith 1982
With maiden you don’t just get great music. You get history lessons. FYI- the lead singer is a pilot and flies them around on their own plane from show to show.
\m/ UP THE IRONS \m/
Dragonforce-Through the fire and flames. Amazing guitar playing
