In India, before the advent of the pressure cooker and rice cooker, we used to cook rice in a big pot of boiling water and then strain away the water. ( the water was used to starch cotton clothes ) I am sure we were consuming less starch for the fact that much of the starch was drained away and that the resultant big fluffy grains of rice made for smaller servings. I may try it and check my blood sugar !
I am from Peru, and we always wash and rinse the rice 3 times before cooking it even now, that we use rice cooker, we still wash the rice 3 times We make sure that before cooking the rice, the water must be clear, hence the 3X wash and rinse
Sadly, I’m on a low carb diet due to a yeast infection and when I eat rice, I literally cannot stop eating. The candida overgrowth creates very intense cravings for sugar and carbs, unless I’m low carb; then the cravings go away and I starve the yeast.
I was told by my doctor I was going to die from an autoimmune disease called "Myasthenia Gravis". There was no cure. I read a bunch of books and guessed that the problem was mostly that I was allergic to wheat (and gluten) and had candida. I did what you are/were doing ten months ago. It was a slow struggle. In a pod cast Dr. Steven Grundy said that he had come to the conclusion that all these problems and many more were caused by "Leaky gut". Leaky gut is caused by lectins, of which gluten is just one, AND ALSO the ROUNDUP INSECTICIDE they have bio engineered into GMO foods. I stopped eating high lectin and bio-engineered foods -- and my leaky gut healed and I fully recovered. I took probiotics and included resistant starch in my diet. The Candida stopped. The book that I feel helped me the most is Dr Gendry's "The Pant Paradox". God bless, I hope you are doing better.

I’ve been doing healthy keto( 6-8 cups leafy greens) nuts/ cheese/ meats with intermittent fasting (one meal a day) for over two years now. I am moving away from animal proteins naturally. I have found that a cup of pressure cooked and chilled and reheated white basmati rice once a week doesn’t effect me at all. I like Indian food, so this is great. I don’t eat brown rice because of the lectins that cause inflammation in my gut. I love your videos! Thanks❤️
My number one reason for keto is years of heartburn! You are totally correct. I did keto to lose weight due to diabetes. The surprise was that my 20 years of terrible heartburn, even with prescription meds, left! I am now going to start removing meds every other day. I can't wait to what happens.
Oh and carbs can make you overly sleepy because of the blood sugar issue, if you’re somewhere on the spectrum between insulin resistance and diabetes, you’ll typically become super sleepy after a high carb meal

Include magnesium as one of your supplements, it’s essential and increase protein for the hair issue 😘 I’ve been reading about resistant starch so decided to do an experiment with this. I checked my blood glucose before eating the prepared rice (cooked and chilled overnight) then 30 minutes and 90 minutes. My blood glucose shot up to alarming levels so I won’t be including resistant starches to my Keto. To solve my plateaus I do intermittent fasting

Kempner's rice diet. Oils/fats make it difficult for the sugars to get through the blood stream, they cause the insulin resistance. Sugars isn't the problem, its mixing fat with sugars.
When I went vegan low carb I became extremely iodine and calcium deficient, and lost quite a bit of hair. The app chronometer is fantastic for gauging your nutritional intake, it’s how I worked out the issue. Also carbs make us sleepy because of tryptophan, but then carbs also release serotonin (related to the former) which makes us cheerful, win some, lose some
I’ve found that parboiled rice doesn’t affect my blood sugar much. I haven’t been actively trying to get into ketosis, because I’m eating keto to help my recently-diagnosed diabetes (Type 2). I have no idea if parboiled rice would affect ketosis or not, but a small portion does not spike my blood sugar, and that is NOT cooled, just cooked normally and consumed immediately.
I've read some of the comments after watching the video. It sounds like some viewers may have read too much into this video. I don't think you are saying that you can now include the resistant starch type of carbs into your keto routine. It was an experiment on your part, and simply put, the most favorable outcomes with the resistant starch are, number 1 that you may be able to do this in a short term situation to break a plateau, as you did not gain, but instead, you lost a bit of weight. Secondly, If you must have a cheat day, do it with these foods cooked in this manner, as they may not cause the carb cravings afterward.
I read about resistant starch about 4 months ago and researched it a little but then I forgot about it. So I am so glad that you tried it and I think it would be good to try potatoes and carrots every once in awhile. And hopefully not get on the carb addiction. But I do know that potatoes taste differently after being cold. You really helped me thank you
Only a small percentage of the starch becomes resistant. The large majority remains normal and acts like a normal starch. Many people have tested their blood sugar and resistant starches still spike blood sugars, same for me.
I'm 51 and diabetic, I'm doing the potato diet now cause I failed with Keto, i couldn't seem to rid my blood of sugar enough to produce and burn ketones so I'd just about given up on dieting of any kind. I boil potatoes at night and refrigerate them overnight, but it's confirmed, my blood sugar is climbing, each morning for the past week. I boil the pots. and cool them, and reheat them and cool them and still my BG goes up, it's especially spiked 1/2, 1, and 2, hrs later. All that being said, I'm dropping weight, so I'm inclined to continue, either way, if I get off the diet or a continue with these blood sugar hikes, it's the same for me, so I might as well continue on the diet, since it's easy, I'm satisfied, and at least the weights coming off!
that's not what Serious Keto found. He didn't see his insulin spike when he chilled, then reheated rice though he did see it with potatoes. Regardless, he suggested people do their own test to see if the reheated rice affects them since we're all different
That's because they make the idiotic claim that it becomes resistant when it cools off, ignoring that fact that your body temperature is 98.6 degrees. Ever eat something that was 98 degrees? That's pretty hot.
I love the experimentation approach you take. I have just started lowering my carb intake. I have noticed subtle things like reduction in bloating around my stomach and face and mental clarity, which is a big thing for me. I will be experimenting with more foods and trying out a couple of your recipes. I need to find out what works. It has only been 3 days but I seem to be shedding water weight at least. I am excited for what is ahead.
I had freshly made rice today and it didn't spike my blood sugar. Though as a new diabetic, not on medication the reading was higher than it is for non diabetics. I also had 2 slices of white jewish caraway bread, that did spike my blood sugar, two points more than the rice. I took readings two hours after both meals. The type of rice and method of cooking, plus what you eat it with all matters. If I have a filling hot meal which has protein, veg and fats, then the spike isn't too bad. But snacks and fruit eaten alone do spike my sugars. Eating so many carbs today brought back bloating, sluggishness, brain fog, pains, water retention and the heart burn. Regardless of blood sugar, my body can't seem to digest carbs well.
My hair started falling off when i restricted my carb intake but it way solved with rice water. I dont eat the rice, I only use it on my hair. It solved the problem
As a Type 2 diabetic with a FreeStyle Libre glucose monitor attached to me 24/7 to give me my blood glucose results instantly..I was very disappointed to find that "starch resistant" rice, pasta and potatoes ALL raised my blood glucose by at least 50 points. This is even after repeated heating and cooling which is supposed to increase it's "starch resistance". What sounds good on paper did not translate to real life for my blood sugar.
Add oil to the resistant starches and try again Plus veggies and even protein but start with oil and see if the glucose response improved. I bet it does
A fellow named Penn Jillette (of Penn & Teller fame) wrote a book on his potato fast, he lost a lot of weight and the resistant starch helped him with his gut bio. Great video by the way.
Thanks Heavenly Fan. I would like to throw a bit of a caveat in your thesis. There have been a couple of videos out on resistant starches. Chilling, heating, chilling and heating such carbs is not applicable for everyone. The challenge is that upon reheating for eating, the structure of the starches change again to be more able to impact the blood sugar perhaps not as high as prior to initial chilling, but for many there is still the spike in bg, so do be mindful of this fact. As such, if you want to try resistant starches, be aware that it may have the spike effect for you so measure and track.

I don't want you to our guinea pig lol but I do like Keto experiment videos. 3 days to go to reach my one year on Keto. Been a phenomenal experience. Lost 165 lbs. I'm 185 now. If you overcook pasta and let it chill, then reheat it in a microwave, it firms up to give an excellent texture. It does this by steaming the water out. It really does bring it back to life.
I have been experimenting with resistant starch for the last year and I have found that I don't gain weight or have blood sugar spikes. But like you - it does give me heartburn and acid reflux a lot of the time. If I have it once a month or so it does not affect me in a negative way - so that's about as often as I have it. I am always looking for more information on this - so thanks for the very informative video.
@@vinrando62 One full day a month at the moment. I have tried having it every other day and the results are the same. I have a little more weight to lose,but when I hit my goal I will definitely have resistant starch on a regular basis. I'm hoping that the acid reflux will lessen over time.
The blood test for B12 isn't very accurate apparently as it only measures what's in your blood and not actually what your body is utilising. Just something to be aware of. It's certainly not a bad idea to take a B12 supplement
Was just going to comment the same its kinda like a drug test doesn't measure the vitamins minerals stored in your fat which is where they are stored , its more like drug test than say a health test. Plus most supplements are only %13 bio available at best relying on supplements for your health is a very bad idea. Real fat soluble vitamins and minerals is the only way to assure your getting proper nutrition.
I have eaten a plant based diet for decades and for me, it feels right. Over the last year I have increased the amount of raw food I eat but have started including Irish Moss and think it benefits hair, nails and skin. It’s worth taking the time to check sources as not all seas are equal in terms of pollution and not all suppliers are reputable. I guess the same for all our foods
I bought green banana starch and potato starch powders. It said to add to cold or chilled drinks. I tried the cooked potato idea. Sweet and Yukon gold versions. I didn't feel great and my bold sugar increased. Carb cycling didn't work for my either. My gall bladder is removed. High fat isn't a very good lifestyle for me! Good Luck! Love your channel! I have been doing the same thing with rice, but there is something more you can do in addition to what you are doing, that is even better, and I have been doing it. I cook rice in a rice cooker like you do, and refrigerate overnight like you do, but then I pressure cook that rice in my instant pot the next day. Rice is high in lectins and psytic acid. Pressure cooking destroys both. After pressure cooking, I refrigerate them again overnight and then eat the second day. According to two books I read on this process, cooking twice and refrigerating twice yields even more resistant starch. You can't pressure cook uncooked rice. You are right, don't eat more than a cup of this rice a day, or your sugar will spike. But, in my humble opinion, there are other issues and controversies in some of the foods you eat. There are a lot of oxalates in Almond flour. Dr. Cate Shanahan has shown that most seed oils are toxic, they distroy fat burning mitachondria in your cells, forcing us to consume sugars and starches for calories, and this leads to diabetes.
@colinkelly facts. Keto vegan diet will eventually reach nutritional deficiency because of not enough protein. While the cooking treats and "fake" flours may be tasty, I can see how it could keep someone craving the old starchy foods. All they need is to be drunk one day and tired and not feel like waiting to prepare the food and run to McDonald's or wendy's for fries.

I do not eat gluten or soy and have not for years -- they are toxic and cause big problems. Like you, I don't like the fake flours either. It turns out according to recent studies at major universities, unhealthy oils are what cause diabetes. I make my own healthy oils. I eat a lot of home grown normal flours, but I turn them into resistant starch first. The problem with vegetable-tarians is they can become under nourished with vitamin B12. It turns out gut bacteria in the human microbiome actually makes all the B vitamins in the right proportions, if you get enough Vitamin D3, Vitamin K and Magnesium. There is no perfect diet. But MickyD's fries and kangaroo burgers are unhealthy and disgusting. I raise all my own food. I know what I am doing and what I grow is an order of magnitude better than organic. But I came to a point where I decided I did not want to kill the critters I was raising. I was raising them humanely. I am not judging anyone else. I just don't want to slaughter and butcher them and eat them... Ten years ago I was told by an MD I had an autoimmune disease that was going to kill me in three to six months and there was no cure. I bought and read $80.00 books written by doctors, for 25 cents used on Amazon. I put together a 10,000 book library. I figured it out, changed my diet and completely recovered. @Dicas da Amaraldina boil the rice till half way done. When it cools, add in to a glass jar and pour warm water on top of the rice with a teaspoon of salt. Leave untouched for a month time. You can then eat the rice after you drain it from its water. You can even recook with vegetables but I recommend not cooking it and eating it cold with other meal additions to avoid killing the prebiotics in it.
Just a few thoughts. 1) Maybe Vinegar would restore acidity in the stomach closing oesophageal sphincter and curing heart burn issue, when eating rice? 2) Biotin is often associated with hair loss. Also Caffeine has been said to increase Ketones and promote hair growth. 3) People should have flexibility of nutrition ideally. You appear to be quite insulin sensitive.(Vinegar is also increase insulin sensitivity) For people with problems with insulin sensitivity (possibly the majority in the west anyway) corrective measures are indicated.

Hi my friend!! My Dr said protien is needed for strong hair, bones & nails. I eat meat, eggs, nuts, seeds and fish so I'm confused. I take Vitamin D, sometimes a B complex and use Nutritional Yeast several times a week. My nails are breaking. I'm cold all the time too. I have occasional numbness in my thumbs, index fingers and middle fingers both hands. I'm 67 so maybe this s she related. I'm doing great on Keto from a weight loss perspective, less joint pain, great energy. I will read more comments here to get some ideas. Take care Dear!!
I was shocked that my doctor doesn't want much protein in my diet, AND doesn't want much FAT in my diet. Obviously this educated person is misinformed about the keto diet, as it was also recommended that I add steel-cut oats and more carbs! Sheesh. When I balked about the reduced protein intake, I was told that digesting protein is very taxing for the kidneys! I DID notice kidney pain the morning after a heavier protein meal, though, and I would NEVER have attributed it to this previously. I'd have just been scratching my head. Hmm...
@@margaretkiser6305 That sounds very strange. I think my doctor said Protien is one thing the body cannot create or recreate so we need to eat Protien. There is Protien in dark leafy greens, nuts and seeds along w meat, eggs & fish so vegan/vegetarians definitely have Protien options. I tried college and biotin but didn't see any noticeable improvement. I've decided to: 1) add a Protien Shake to my day and 2) order the D3 & K2 Trace Mineral product or it might even be 2 different products by Dr. Berg. Well this is interesting because I only lost some weight on keto and then it stopped stubbornly due to my thyroid not producing hormone and replacement just barely cuts it, and it turned out that thyroid and brain function needs carbs. Well going off, slowly had some weight gain, which was more about not weighing every day and timing. So I'm more keto-ish than keto now. Added fruit, healthy for me and rice, white brown or wild, doesn't put me to sleep or cause weight gain, but potatoes do. Brown bread does, but occasional white doesn't. I blend spelt in with keto ish breads, and if eaten early, all is well. I have one foot on both sides physically, so when the slow weight loss halts, then switch to the keto then switch to a fuller meal, its like cracking the code for each pound. But the rice helping and hair change, had surgery and doctor didn't tell me would need estrogen replacement. That drop in hormones in mid life, 40's for me, and surgery, caused severe arthritis, hair loss, weight gain, dental problems. I take natural foods, wild yam and estro pause, and some improvement. And keto ish, not strict, need some carbs, with intermittent fasting, one larger meal noon, and slowly can lose weight again consistently. Rice, protein and soya for example has a hormone effect as well for women. Rice is how I discovered that hormone was causing all of it for me. Rice is good.

To get resistant carbs you need to add coconut oil while you cook it, and then let it chill in the fridge until the next day. There are some studies out there in case you want to google it.
Fried rice over white rice! I can deal with that. :) (Chinese restaurants often make fried rice with refrigerated overnight cooked rice which is also much easier to fry than from freshly cooked rice)
Add MSM (sulfur) to your supplementation. I order granulated from vet supply and consume enough to have brought my hair back from very sparse to very strong at 74 yrs!
Heavenly Fan thank you so much for this Resistant Starch Info video ☺ I have also learned of this process a couple months ago. I'm not on keto, but have been eating more of a vegetarian plan. I try to eat more non starchy vegetables with the exception of different potatoes, and also grains like brown/wild rice, quinoa, whole oats etc. I have been consistently using the resistant starch cooking method for about 7 weeks, and have lost 17 lbs. It's just crazy how simple it is and that it actually has worked for me! For those that are wanting to try it out, definitely be consistent with the cooking method. “Serious keto “guy did a week long test of different rice cooking with blood tests on camera. Nothing changed much, fresh, reheated and cold. I had high hopes, miss rice one of the most.
From what I have heard the amount of resistant starch compared with the uncooked potato or rice , is not increased after cooking . The level drops with cooking but is partially restored after 12 or so hours of refrigeration .
I believe resistant starch only develops up to a certain point, meaning you'd still want to minimize your consumption of starch as there's only so much resistance your body can implement before insulin is needed to digest/store carbohydrates. The carbs you ingest have to go somewhere. The likelihood that ALL of the resistant rice or potato salad, goes directly to your small intestine, is pretty slim. There's no scientific data showing what percentage of starches convert to resistant starch, but it's estimated to be significant enough to have benefits. There are 2 ways to add resistant starches to your diet. I believe cooking and cooling is the most significant method, followed by the method of simply sprinkling fiber such as potato starch or oat fiber to meals - both of which should not be cooked after added, or their resistant starches will break down. The same applies to plantain/green banana flour, cassava flour, tapioca fiber, and corn fiber.
Great video. I too am into Lazy Keto my scale is my only tool. I have been Ketoesque since June 2019. I have lost 37 lbs which is about what I wanted to achieve. I watched Thomas Delaur's video on resistant starches and now cycle around. I am a potato and bean lover so they were some of the harder things to leave off it when I started. After adding occasional meals with these I have not noticed a significant difference in my weight. I stay within a 3 - 4 lb up and down which I sometimes attribute to excess water weight we women always seem to have to contend with. I have added more fermented foods to my diet and am experimenting with them to increase a diversity in my gut Biome. I try to cycle through different brands of Raw Sauerkraut and Kimchi as some say each brand will contain different bacteria depending on where they were made which I think makes sense. One note to your heartburn I used to suffer from it until I started in on Apple Cider Vinegar everyday for about a month, 1 oz shot glass straight every morning before coffee - short term pain for long term gain. I think it has been about 5 years now without having GERD I don't have to do ACV on a regular basis anymore though I do use it regularly for making mayonnaise and dressings for salads and veggies. For supplements I do Vitamin D, K2, Magnesium , Fish Oil and sometimes Zinc and use Nutritional Yeast for B vitamins. My hair has thinned quite a bit, but like you my Japanese genes graced me with thick hair from birth. I think the addition of Horsetail tea, which I have started might help. I do colour my hair being 63 this year I am not ready to fully embrace my platinum glory but now use Vegan semi permanent dyes rather than the chemical commercial ones. I think it is a natural occurrence as we age for our hair to thin if you listen to the older generation. I advise anyone using ACV, to dilute it in water. You can still gain the same benefits, but without harming your enamel or esophagus. It's recommended to dilute it in a 1:1 ratio of ACV to H20.
@Heavenly Fan ...love to listen to your videos, thank you 💕 . For brittle hair, try Collagen Peptide, BUT the multi-collagen one with type I, type II and type III included, or just the type II one. Because glucosamine has a negative effect on my glaucoma I had instead started adding one scoop of multi collagen in powder form to my coffee and in a few months time I noticed that I had difficulty with the usual easy 3rd round of my hair elastic while doing my pony tail. And I have hypothyroid, that usually causes more hair loss... Maybe you should give this a try (at least 2-3 months) ? Much love.
If you are getting acid indigestion or heartburn do this test. - Take a table spoon of ACV apple cider vinegar, if your heartburn gets worse you have too much acid. If it gets better you don't have enough. I bet you don't have enough since you haven't had carbs for a while. Try oil and vinegar on your vegetables to see if that helps.
Resistant starch does increase the blood sugar as much as natural starch.....I’ve checked my blood sugars both ways and there was no difference, so diabetics be careful!

Why don't you just have 1/2 the amount of rice with vegetables and only have it 2 times a week. That way you can have some rice once and a while. Have several days inbetween.
did you try check your sugar level, before and after? to see how it raise your sugar or not . ive been in keto for 6th month . my surgar a1c went down from7.5 to 5.5. i inject im insulin from 4 time a day to half shot. plus a bonus lost 40.
Thanks for sharing. I also think eating the rice at night doesn’t help. If you ate it in the day and continued being active that would help. Eating in the evenings, especially carbohydrates is not good for your digestive system.
Hi this is just a thought you might consider. Thin baby hair might be a sign of iodine deficiency or a thyroid deficiency. Many vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables interfere with the intake of iodine thus affecting the thyroid. Soy products also interfere with the thyroid iodine intake. This does not mean you should eliminate them from your diet, instead adding seaweeds or a kelp supplement to your diet might help correct the problem. Iodine, vit B12 and vit D3 are usually deficient in vegan diets. Fermented products do have B12 because of the yeast. Also adding a yeast supplement might help. Please check your thyroid. I hope this might be of help. By the way, even though I do not do keto, I am mostly vegetarian and I truly love your channel. You make everything so easy and tasty, I am going to try some of your recipes. Best wishes and good luck!!
Great video! Some interesting things I've read which may help you: (1) Try adding vitamin K2 to your diet (natto or a supplement). I take a vegan vitamin D and K2 supplement. Your hair, bones and teeth need K2 and Vitamins D and A and magnesium to fully utilise calcium. I used to have very sensitive teeth but once I took the supplement, my sensitivity disappeared. (2) Eating too much at night can also cause heartburn, especially when you are lying down/sleeping. So you said you forced yourself to eat all the rice in the final days of the week - this could be the reason for heartburn, not the actual rice itself. (3) Everyone has a different carb threshold before being kicked out of keto. Also, combine this with the fact that everyone's microbiome is different. As you grew up eating rice, your microbiome will be ultra efficient in digesting rice. Therefore, you may be able to eat a lot of rice before being kicked out of keto. Whereas your microbiome may not be as efficient with sweet potato/pasta/bread (and cause carb coma). Anyway, love your channel!

I'm interested to know if you kept it up and eat white rice regularly as a result? Did it make a difference to your hair? I've been on Keto for more than 2 years and despite taking electrolytes and bone broth daily, and having normal blood test results, my hair has thinned sooooo much :-( I'm wondering if trying this method 2-3 days per week (Friday - Sunday, as a treat/cheat) might make a difference!
Carbs won't help hair issues, the cause is being vegan. The complex combinations of vitamins is missing. You also eat quite small quanity and limited variety of foods. So aren't getting the full range of nutrition.

I'm latin American, rice has been in our diet since I remember. My grandmother cooked rice very different as today we cooked it. First the rice was washed like 12 times, the water had to come very clean. This was to take away most of the starch that comes with it. 2. She used proper fat no oil. She put fat in a Caldero (Spanish) is a like a mini size Calderon but like metal cast iron but as heavy as cast iron. Fat were important in the processes of cooking rice. I guess the fat helped to break some of the carbs of rice. In those days people didn't suffered form obesity or diabetic. The thing was people consume food in a healthy way. We also added Avocados to our diets & olive oil. In Puerto Rico for example we used to eat some starchy vegetables like cooked green bananas, with olive oil , sal, paper , olives as well as cassava. The old school knew how to mixed our food in a way that was more healthy. Then they started saying Avocados, olives and fat are bad for you, so people started changing the way they used cook. The other thing we always have in our diet was proper meat not cheap meat or can meat. We changed that too. Process food is now easy to find and cheaper so cooking like the old days has changed for bad.
I have the same experience. Keto diet Is making my hair fall out. I try to have boiled eggs daily, 1 or 2 eggs per day, and it helps. By the way, I like your videos and thank you for posting the receipts.
Are you eating enough proteins and iron? I'm on the keto diet too, but I eat a bit more protein and fats and super low carbs.. everyone's version is a bit different depending on your body. But my hair has grown a lot thicker, longer and stronger since starting the diet and I do think it's all the proteins and extra vitamins and minerals that I take. Also sulphur and omega 3s help too...but it's probably best to take a blood test, so you can see what your body is lacking.
Is Avocado part of the plan? I’ve never seen on any glycemic index chart that brown rice has lower GI than white. They’re the same. Low GI Rice is simply a special variety cultivated to have low GI from high proportion of resistant starch such as Australian low GI rice, Doongara.
Changes in hair quality is almost certainly indicative of protein deficiency; it's one of the most common issues for vegans who do not carefully monitor their protein (and kind of protein) intake. Not a common issue for those practicing Keto.
I have not found this to be the case. Rice/potatoes - hot/cold or the day after spikes my blood sugar the same way by the same amount. I am sure we all would love for this to be true but I have tested and not found it to be the case, at least for me.

I don't think hair loss is because of lack of carbs. It's probably lack of protein and some B-complex. I would try to eat some nutritional yeasts in higher amounts (like 50g or more daily). Also you can try some rice bran and oats bran for B-complex.
I love having my food warm ... is this a valid question if I eat my warm food and after I pop a probiotic? would that kill off the bacteria and render them useless ?
The way you're doing things, you really can't know what's going on. Without tracking macros, and without testing for ketones and glucose, you don't even really know if you're in ketosis. You also can't whether it's food sensitivities, insulin reactions or both. Your hair could be age related, which also points to hormones, but not eating meats could also be the problem. You just can't rule anything out beyond possibly food sensitivities.
True, how does she do it. From her other videos and this one she says she weighs in daily and she's great at listening to her body when it "speaks" to her. She knows how she wants her clothes to feel, and she's a yoga instructor no less, so she's no coach potato lol. Those Keto blood strips are pricey. It's a $50.00 monthly expense here in the U.S. probably more in London. I don't trust the pee or breath methods. Mostly you get a sense of what you can and cannot eat after you've been doing Keto (I'm a couple of days away from my 1 year anniversary on Keto.) What's unique ( in my opinion) is that she's a Vegan Keto "lifestyler" lol if that's a word. I don't know how she does that. But I incorporate some of her dishes into my own Keto w.o.e.. I'm a fan of Fan.
Thank you for self sacrificing :). I've heard of resistant starches, but I'm concerned because I have insulin resistance that it still won't agree with my blood sugar. I should try it out with blood sugar measurements. I love potatoes in all forms except sweet potato :(. Who am I kidding? I love carbs! I follow a youtuber where one host is normoglycemic and the other is insulin resistant. They've demonstrated live, how "carbs" affect their blood glucose differently.
In India, before the advent of the pressure cooker and rice cooker, we used to cook rice in a big pot of boiling water and then strain away the water. ( the water was used to starch cotton clothes ) I am sure we were consuming less starch for the fact that much of the starch was drained away and that the resultant big fluffy grains of rice made for smaller servings. I may try it and check my blood sugar !
In Iraq we still make rice this way, I myself don’t use rice cooker.
I am indian and we do not use pressure cooker for rice because rice starch must not be consumed.
We used to that as well in my country. In recent years, low carb rice cooker are on high demand now. They claim it lower 50% of the carbohydrates.

Sadly, I’m on a low carb diet due to a yeast infection and when I eat rice, I literally cannot stop eating. The candida overgrowth creates very intense cravings for sugar and carbs, unless I’m low carb; then the cravings go away and I starve the yeast.

I was told by my doctor I was going to die from an autoimmune disease called "Myasthenia Gravis". There was no cure. I read a bunch of books and guessed that the problem was mostly that I was allergic to wheat (and gluten) and had candida. I did what you are/were doing ten months ago. It was a slow struggle. In a pod cast Dr. Steven Grundy said that he had come to the conclusion that all these problems and many more were caused by "Leaky gut". Leaky gut is caused by lectins, of which gluten is just one, AND ALSO the ROUNDUP INSECTICIDE they have bio engineered into GMO foods. I stopped eating high lectin and bio-engineered foods -- and my leaky gut healed and I fully recovered. I took probiotics and included resistant starch in my diet. The Candida stopped. Sushi rice is also starch resistant and effect on blood sugar is less (mainly due to effect of vinegar on the rice) than ordinary fresh cooked rice.
I’ve been doing healthy keto( 6-8 cups leafy greens) nuts/ cheese/ meats with intermittent fasting (one meal a day) for over two years now. I am moving away from animal proteins naturally. I have found that a cup of pressure cooked and chilled and reheated white basmati rice once a week doesn’t effect me at all. I like Indian food, so this is great. I don’t eat brown rice because of the lectins that cause inflammation in my gut. I love your videos! Thanks❤️

My number one reason for keto is years of heartburn! You are totally correct. I did keto to lose weight due to diabetes. The surprise was that my 20 years of terrible heartburn, even with prescription meds, left! I am now going to start removing meds every other day. I can't wait to what happens.
Oh and carbs can make you overly sleepy because of the blood sugar issue, if you’re somewhere on the spectrum between insulin resistance and diabetes, you’ll typically become super sleepy after a high carb meal

I’ve been reading about resistant starch so decided to do an experiment with this. I checked my blood glucose before eating the prepared rice (cooked and chilled overnight) then 30 minutes and 90 minutes. My blood glucose shot up to alarming levels so I won’t be including resistant starches to my Keto. To solve my plateaus I do intermittent fasting

Kempner's rice diet. Oils/fats make it difficult for the sugars to get through the blood stream, they cause the insulin resistance. Sugars isn't the problem, its mixing fat with sugars.
I was under the impression “resistant starch” had to be eaten cold and not reheated.
When I went vegan low carb I became extremely iodine and calcium deficient, and lost quite a bit of hair. The app chronometer is fantastic for gauging your nutritional intake, it’s how I worked out the issue. Also carbs make us sleepy because of tryptophan, but then carbs also release serotonin (related to the former) which makes us cheerful, win some, lose some
I’ve found that parboiled rice doesn’t affect my blood sugar much. I haven’t been actively trying to get into ketosis, because I’m eating keto to help my recently-diagnosed diabetes (Type 2). I have no idea if parboiled rice would affect ketosis or not, but a small portion does not spike my blood sugar, and that is NOT cooled, just cooked normally and consumed immediately.
I always put a tbsp of vinegar with my rice portion to avoid heart burns. It work great.
I've read some of the comments after watching the video. It sounds like some viewers may have read too much into this video. I don't think you are saying that you can now include the resistant starch type of carbs into your keto routine. It was an experiment on your part, and simply put, the most favorable outcomes with the resistant starch are, number 1 that you may be able to do this in a short term situation to break a plateau, as you did not gain, but instead, you lost a bit of weight. Secondly, If you must have a cheat day, do it with these foods cooked in this manner, as they may not cause the carb cravings afterward.
I read about resistant starch about 4 months ago and researched it a little but then I forgot about it. So I am so glad that you tried it and I think it would be good to try potatoes and carrots every once in awhile. And hopefully not get on the carb addiction. Only a small percentage of the starch becomes resistant. The large majority remains normal and acts like a normal starch. Many people have tested their blood sugar and resistant starches still spike blood sugars, same for me.
I'm 51 and diabetic, I'm doing the potato diet now cause I failed with Keto, i couldn't seem to rid my blood of sugar enough to produce and burn ketones so I'd just about given up on dieting of any kind. I boil potatoes at night and refrigerate them overnight, but it's confirmed, my blood sugar is climbing, each morning for the past week. I boil the pots. and cool them, and reheat them and cool them and still my BG goes up, it's especially spiked 1/2, 1, and 2, hrs later. All that being said, I'm dropping weight, so I'm inclined to continue, either way, if I get off the diet or a continue with these blood sugar hikes, it's the same for me, so I might as well continue on the diet, since it's easy, I'm satisfied, and at least the weights coming off!
that's not what Serious Keto found. He didn't see his insulin spike when he chilled, then reheated rice though he did see it with potatoes. Regardless, he suggested people do their own test to see if the reheated rice affects them since we're all different
That's because they make the idiotic claim that it becomes resistant when it cools off, ignoring that fact that your body temperature is 98.6 degrees. Ever eat something that was 98 degrees? That's pretty hot.

I love the experimentation approach you take. I have just started lowering my carb intake. I have noticed subtle things like reduction in bloating around my stomach and face and mental clarity, which is a big thing for me. I will be experimenting with more foods and trying out a couple of your recipes. I need to find out what works. It has only been 3 days but I seem to be shedding water weight at least. I am excited for what is ahead.
I had freshly made rice today and it didn't spike my blood sugar. Though as a new diabetic, not on medication the reading was higher than it is for non diabetics. I also had 2 slices of white jewish caraway bread, that did spike my blood sugar, two points more than the rice. I took readings two hours after both meals.
The type of rice and method of cooking, plus what you eat it with all matters. If I have a filling hot meal which has protein, veg and fats, then the spike isn't too bad. But snacks and fruit eaten alone do spike my sugars.
Eating so many carbs today brought back bloating, sluggishness, brain fog, pains, water retention and the heart burn. Regardless of blood sugar, my body can't seem to digest carbs well.
My hair started falling off when i restricted my carb intake but it way solved with rice water. I dont eat the rice, I only use it on my hair. It solved the problem

As a Type 2 diabetic with a FreeStyle Libre glucose monitor attached to me 24/7 to give me my blood glucose results instantly..I was very disappointed to find that "starch resistant" rice, pasta and potatoes ALL raised my blood glucose by at least 50 points. This is even after repeated heating and cooling which is supposed to increase it's "starch resistance". What sounds good on paper did not translate to real life for my blood sugar.
Add oil to the resistant starches and try again
Plus veggies and even protein but start with oil and see if the glucose response improved. I bet it does
A fellow named Penn Jillette (of Penn & Teller fame) wrote a book on his potato fast, he lost a lot of weight and the resistant starch helped him with his gut bio. Great video by the way.

Thanks Heavenly Fan. I would like to throw a bit of a caveat in your thesis. There have been a couple of videos out on resistant starches. Chilling, heating, chilling and heating such carbs is not applicable for everyone. The challenge is that upon reheating for eating, the structure of the starches change again to be more able to impact the blood sugar perhaps not as high as prior to initial chilling, but for many there is still the spike in bg, so do be mindful of this fact. As such, if you want to try resistant starches, be aware that it may have the spike effect for you so measure and track.

If you overcook pasta and let it chill, then reheat it in a microwave, it firms up to give an excellent texture. It does this by steaming the water out. It really does bring it back to life.
I have been experimenting with resistant starch for the last year and I have found that I don't gain weight or have blood sugar spikes. But like you - it does give me heartburn and acid reflux a lot of the time. If I have it once a month or so it does not affect me in a negative way - so that's about as often as I have it. I am always looking for more information on this - so thanks for the very informative video.

You might find it useful to read about the Fast Tract diet which goes into resistant starch and gut issues such as reflux.

The blood test for B12 isn't very accurate apparently as it only measures what's in your blood and not actually what your body is utilising. Just something to be aware of. It's certainly not a bad idea to take a B12 supplement
Was just going to comment the same its kinda like a drug test doesn't measure the vitamins minerals stored in your fat which is where they are stored , its more like drug test than say a health test. Plus most supplements are only %13 bio available at best relying on supplements for your health is a very bad idea. Real fat soluble vitamins and minerals is the only way to assure your getting proper nutrition.
I have eaten a plant based diet for decades and for me, it feels right. Over the last year I have increased the amount of raw food I eat but have started including Irish Moss and think it benefits hair, nails and skin. It’s worth taking the time to check sources as not all seas are equal in terms of pollution and not all suppliers are reputable. I guess the same for all our foods

I bought green banana starch and potato starch powders. It said to add to cold or chilled drinks. I tried the cooked potato idea. Sweet and Yukon gold versions. I didn't feel great and my bold sugar increased. Carb cycling didn't work for my either. My gall bladder is removed. High fat isn't a very good lifestyle for me! Good Luck! Love your channel! I have been doing the same thing with rice, but there is something more you can do in addition to what you are doing, that is even better, and I have been doing it. I cook rice in a rice cooker like you do, and refrigerate overnight like you do, but then I pressure cook that rice in my instant pot the next day. Rice is high in lectins and psytic acid. Pressure cooking destroys both. After pressure cooking, I refrigerate them again overnight and then eat the second day. According to two books I read on this process, cooking twice and refrigerating twice yields even more resistant starch. You can't pressure cook uncooked rice. You are right, don't eat more than a cup of this rice a day, or your sugar will spike. But, in my humble opinion, there are other issues and controversies in some of the foods you eat. There are a lot of oxalates in Almond flour. Dr. Cate Shanahan has shown that most seed oils are toxic, they distroy fat burning mitachondria in your cells, forcing us to consume sugars and starches for calories, and this leads to diabetes.
@colinkelly facts. Keto vegan diet will eventually reach nutritional deficiency because of not enough protein. While the cooking treats and "fake" flours may be tasty, I can see how it could keep someone craving the old starchy foods. All they need is to be drunk one day and tired and not feel like waiting to prepare the food and run to McDonald's or wendy's for fries.

It turns out according to recent studies at major universities, unhealthy oils are what cause diabetes. I make my own healthy oils. I eat a lot of home grown normal flours, but I turn them into resistant starch first. The problem with vegetable-tarians is they can become under nourished with vitamin B12. It turns out gut bacteria in the human microbiome actually makes all the B vitamins in the right proportions, if you get enough Vitamin D3, Vitamin K and Magnesium. There is no perfect diet. But MickyD's fries and kangaroo burgers are unhealthy and disgusting. I raise all my own food. I know what I am doing and what I grow is an order of magnitude better than organic. But I came to a point where I decided I did not want to kill the critters I was raising. I was raising them humanely. I am not judging anyone else. I just don't want to slaughter and butcher them and eat them... Ten years ago I was told by an MD I had an autoimmune disease that was going to kill me in three to six months and there was no cure. I bought and read $80.00 books written by doctors, for 25 cents used on Amazon. I put together a 10,000 book library. I figured it out, changed my diet and completely recovered. Serious Keto he tried it every way, didn't work based on blood sugar and ketones.
I ferment rice and turn it to 0 carb and use it in my cooking routines. I check my blood and there is no impact on sugar levels.
@Dicas da Amaraldina boil the rice till half way done. When it cools, add in to a glass jar and pour warm water on top of the rice with a teaspoon of salt. Leave untouched for a month time. You can then eat the rice after you drain it from its water. You can even recook with vegetables but I recommend not cooking it and eating it cold with other meal additions to avoid killing the prebiotics in it.
Just a few thoughts.
1) Maybe Vinegar would restore acidity in the stomach closing oesophageal sphincter and curing heart burn issue, when eating rice?
2) Biotin is often associated with hair loss. Also Caffeine has been said to increase Ketones and promote hair growth.
3) People should have flexibility of nutrition ideally. You appear to be quite insulin sensitive.(Vinegar is also increase insulin sensitivity) For people with problems with insulin sensitivity (possibly the majority in the west anyway) corrective measures are indicated.

Hi my friend!! My Dr said protien is needed for strong hair, bones & nails. I eat meat, eggs, nuts, seeds and fish so I'm confused. I take Vitamin D, sometimes a B complex and use Nutritional Yeast several times a week. My nails are breaking. I'm cold all the time too. I have occasional numbness in my thumbs, index fingers and middle fingers both hands. I'm 67 so maybe this s she related. I'm doing great on Keto from a weight loss perspective, less joint pain, great energy. I will read more comments here to get some ideas. Take care Dear!!

I was shocked that my doctor doesn't want much protein in my diet, AND doesn't want much FAT in my diet. Obviously this educated person is misinformed about the keto diet, as it was also recommended that I add steel-cut oats and more carbs! Sheesh.
When I balked about the reduced protein intake, I was told that digesting protein is very taxing for the kidneys!
I DID notice kidney pain the morning after a heavier protein meal, though, and I would NEVER have attributed it to this previously. I'd have just been scratching my head. Hmm...
@@margaretkiser6305 That sounds very strange. I think my doctor said Protien is one thing the body cannot create or recreate so we need to eat Protien. There is Protien in dark leafy greens, nuts and seeds along w meat, eggs & fish so vegan/vegetarians definitely have Protien options. I tried college and biotin but didn't see any noticeable improvement. I've decided to:
1) add a Protien Shake to my day and 2) order the D3 & K2 Trace Mineral product or it might even be 2 different products by Dr. Berg. Well this is interesting because I only lost some weight on keto and then it stopped stubbornly due to my thyroid not producing hormone and replacement just barely cuts it, and it turned out that thyroid and brain function needs carbs. Well going off, slowly had some weight gain, which was more about not weighing every day and timing. So I'm more keto-ish than keto now. Added fruit, healthy for me and rice, white brown or wild, doesn't put me to sleep or cause weight gain, but potatoes do. Brown bread does, but occasional white doesn't. I blend spelt in with keto ish breads, and if eaten early, all is well. I have one foot on both sides physically, so when the slow weight loss halts, then switch to the keto then switch to a fuller meal, its like cracking the code for each pound. But the rice helping and hair change, had surgery and doctor didn't tell me would need estrogen replacement. That drop in hormones in mid life, 40's for me, and surgery, caused severe arthritis, hair loss, weight gain, dental problems. I take natural foods, wild yam and estro pause, and some improvement. And keto ish, not strict, need some carbs, with intermittent fasting, one larger meal noon, and slowly can lose weight again consistently. Rice, protein and soya for example has a hormone effect as well for women. Rice is how I discovered that hormone was causing all of it for me. Rice is good.
I think lack of vit.B is the cause of the condition of your hair. Yeast can be very useful.

To get resistant carbs you need to add coconut oil while you cook it, and then let it chill in the fridge until the next day. There are some studies out there in case you want to google it.

Fried rice over white rice! I can deal with that. :) (Chinese restaurants often make fried rice with refrigerated overnight cooked rice which is also much easier to fry than from freshly cooked rice)
That's very true. It was inadvertently a healthier way to consume rice.
I think that should read _always_ .Chilling the boiled rice overnight is a necessary part of the recipe for Chinese style egg fried rice
They also add vinegar to it, to stop bacteria growing.
Add MSM (sulfur) to your supplementation. I order granulated from vet supply and consume enough to have brought my hair back from very sparse to very strong at 74 yrs!
Heavenly Fan thank you so much for this Resistant Starch Info video ☺ I have also learned of this process a couple months ago. I'm not on keto, but have been eating more of a vegetarian plan. I try to eat more non starchy vegetables with the exception of different potatoes, and also grains like brown/wild rice, quinoa, whole oats etc. I have been consistently using the resistant starch cooking method for about 7 weeks, and have lost 17 lbs. It's just crazy how simple it is and that it actually has worked for me! For those that are wanting to try it out, definitely be consistent with the cooking method. This was such a great informative video. I'll be sharing 💜

From what I have heard the amount of resistant starch compared with the uncooked potato or rice , is not increased after cooking . The level drops with cooking but is partially restored after 12 or so hours of refrigeration .

Would this put potato salad, rice salads and sushi back on a keto menu? Are there any stats on how to calculate net carbs of resistant starches?
I believe resistant starch only develops up to a certain point, meaning you'd still want to minimize your consumption of starch as there's only so much resistance your body can implement before insulin is needed to digest/store carbohydrates. The carbs you ingest have to go somewhere. The likelihood that ALL of the resistant rice or potato salad, goes directly to your small intestine, is pretty slim. There's no scientific data showing what percentage of starches convert to resistant starch, but it's estimated to be significant enough to have benefits. There are 2 ways to add resistant starches to your diet. I believe cooking and cooling is the most significant method, followed by the method of simply sprinkling fiber such as potato starch or oat fiber to meals - both of which should not be cooked after added, or their resistant starches will break down. The same applies to plantain/green banana flour, cassava flour, tapioca fiber, and corn fiber.
Try adding Vit K2 it's making higher doses of D3 work much more efficient.
Great video. I too am into Lazy Keto my scale is my only tool. I have been Ketoesque since June 2019. I have lost 37 lbs which is about what I wanted to achieve. I watched Thomas Delaur's video on resistant starches and now cycle around. I am a potato and bean lover so they were some of the harder things to leave off it when I started. After adding occasional meals with these I have not noticed a significant difference in my weight. I stay within a 3 - 4 lb up and down which I sometimes attribute to excess water weight we women always seem to have to contend with. I have added more fermented foods to my diet and am experimenting with them to increase a diversity in my gut Biome. I try to cycle through different brands of Raw Sauerkraut and Kimchi as some say each brand will contain different bacteria depending on where they were made which I think makes sense. One note to your heartburn I used to suffer from it until I started in on Apple Cider Vinegar everyday for about a month, 1 oz shot glass straight every morning before coffee - short term pain for long term gain. I think it has been about 5 years now without having GERD I don't have to do ACV on a regular basis anymore though I do use it regularly for making mayonnaise and dressings for salads and veggies. For supplements I do Vitamin D, K2, Magnesium , Fish Oil and sometimes Zinc and use Nutritional Yeast for B vitamins. My hair has thinned quite a bit, but like you my Japanese genes graced me with thick hair from birth. I think the addition of Horsetail tea, which I have started might help. I do colour my hair being 63 this year I am not ready to fully embrace my platinum glory but now use Vegan semi permanent dyes rather than the chemical commercial ones. I think it is a natural occurrence as we age for our hair to thin if you listen to the older generation. I advise anyone using ACV, to dilute it in water. You can still gain the same benefits, but without harming your enamel or esophagus. It's recommended to dilute it in a 1:1 ratio of ACV to H20.
@Heavenly Fan ...love to listen to your videos, thank you 💕 . For brittle hair, try Collagen Peptide, BUT the multi-collagen one with type I, type II and type III included, or just the type II one. Because glucosamine has a negative effect on my glaucoma I had instead started adding one scoop of multi collagen in powder form to my coffee and in a few months time I noticed that I had difficulty with the usual easy 3rd round of my hair elastic while doing my pony tail. And I have hypothyroid, that usually causes more hair loss... Maybe you should give this a try (at least 2-3 months) ? Much love.

If you are getting acid indigestion or heartburn do this test. - Take a table spoon of ACV apple cider vinegar, if your heartburn gets worse you have too much acid. If it gets better you don't have enough. I bet you don't have enough since you haven't had carbs for a while. Try oil and vinegar on your vegetables to see if that helps.
Try it with purple Yam, boiled. I think you won’t get sleepy . Gi is low
Resistant starch does increase the blood sugar as much as natural starch.....I’ve checked my blood sugars both ways and there was no difference, so diabetics be careful!

did you try check your sugar level, before and after? to see how it raise your sugar or not . ive been in keto for 6th month . my surgar a1c went down from7.5 to 5.5. i inject im insulin from 4 time a day to half shot. plus a bonus lost 40.

Hi this is just a thought you might consider. Thin baby hair might be a sign of iodine deficiency or a thyroid deficiency. Many vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables interfere with the intake of iodine thus affecting the thyroid. Soy products also interfere with the thyroid iodine intake. This does not mean you should eliminate them from your diet, instead adding seaweeds or a kelp supplement to your diet might help correct the problem. Iodine, vit B12 and vit D3 are usually deficient in vegan diets. Fermented products do have B12 because of the yeast. Also adding a yeast supplement might help. Please check your thyroid. I hope this might be of help. By the way, even though I do not do keto, I am mostly vegetarian and I truly love your channel. You make everything so easy and tasty, I am going to try some of your recipes. Best wishes and good luck!!
Great video! Some interesting things I've read which may help you:
(1) Try adding vitamin K2 to your diet (natto or a supplement). I take a vegan vitamin D and K2 supplement. Your hair, bones and teeth need K2 and Vitamins D and A and magnesium to fully utilise calcium. I used to have very sensitive teeth but once I took the supplement, my sensitivity disappeared.
(2) Eating too much at night can also cause heartburn, especially when you are lying down/sleeping. So you said you forced yourself to eat all the rice in the final days of the week - this could be the reason for heartburn, not the actual rice itself.
(3) Everyone has a different carb threshold before being kicked out of keto. Also, combine this with the fact that everyone's microbiome is different. As you grew up eating rice, your microbiome will be ultra efficient in digesting rice. Therefore, you may be able to eat a lot of rice before being kicked out of keto. Whereas your microbiome may not be as efficient with sweet potato/pasta/bread (and cause carb coma).

I'm interested to know if you kept it up and eat white rice regularly as a result? Did it make a difference to your hair? I've been on Keto for more than 2 years and despite taking electrolytes and bone broth daily, and having normal blood test results, my hair has thinned sooooo much :-( I'm wondering if trying this method 2-3 days per week (Friday - Sunday, as a treat/cheat) might make a difference!
I do it rice as cheat meal, but I mix half white rice and half califlour rice, and it taste good.
Carbs won't help hair issues, the cause is being vegan. The complex combinations of vitamins is missing. You also eat quite small quanity and limited variety of foods. So aren't getting the full range of nutrition.
This is very interesting, I have heard that cold potatoes are good for your gut bio... but I will have to really look into this.. 😻
Am celtic. I can't not eat oats. It is part of our staple diet even more so than potatoes. I try to eat gluten free and have reduced my intake a lot.

My understanding is if you cook it chill it and re-cook it you're losing the resistance starches as soon as it's heated again but I could be wrong

Serious keto tested on few videos resistant starches with butter it had less impacts.
I'm latin American, rice has been in our diet since I remember. My grandmother cooked rice very different as today we cooked it. First the rice was washed like 12 times, the water had to come very clean. This was to take away most of the starch that comes with it. 2. She used proper fat no oil. She put fat in a Caldero (Spanish) is a like a mini size Calderon but like metal cast iron but as heavy as cast iron. Fat were important in the processes of cooking rice. I guess the fat helped to break some of the carbs of rice. In those days people didn't suffered form obesity or diabetic.
The thing was people consume food in a healthy way. We also added Avocados to our diets & olive oil. In Puerto Rico for example we used to eat some starchy vegetables like cooked green bananas, with olive oil , sal, paper , olives as well as cassava. The old school knew how to mixed our food in a way that was more healthy. Then they started saying Avocados, olives and fat are bad for you, so people started changing the way they used cook.
The other thing we always have in our diet was proper meat not cheap meat or can meat. We changed that too. Process food is now easy to find and cheaper so cooking like the old days has changed for bad.
Does the same apply to buying frozen rice, in individual bags , that you microwave to reheat ??
I have the same experience. Keto diet Is making my hair fall out. I try to have boiled eggs daily, 1 or 2 eggs per day, and it helps. By the way, I like your videos and thank you for posting the receipts.
Are you eating enough proteins and iron? I'm on the keto diet too, but I eat a bit more protein and fats and super low carbs.. everyone's version is a bit different depending on your body. But my hair has grown a lot thicker, longer and stronger since starting the diet and I do think it's all the proteins and extra vitamins and minerals that I take. Also sulphur and omega 3s help too...but it's probably best to take a blood test, so you can see what your body is lacking.
Is Avocado part of the plan? I’ve never seen on any glycemic index chart that brown rice has lower GI than white. They’re the same. Low GI Rice is simply a special variety cultivated to have low GI from high proportion of resistant starch such as Australian low GI rice, Doongara.

I just came across this video. I started losing hair on keto. I take zinc everyday my hair is growing back. I am in my 60's.
Changes in hair quality is almost certainly indicative of protein deficiency; it's one of the most common issues for vegans who do not carefully monitor their protein (and kind of protein) intake. Not a common issue for those practicing Keto.
My hair got thicker by being a vegan for years.
Does this mean cold potato chips/crisps are better for than warm ones? Crisps are cooked and cooled and have high fat.
I have not found this to be the case. Rice/potatoes - hot/cold or the day after spikes my blood sugar the same way by the same amount. I am sure we all would love for this to be true but I have tested and not found it to be the case, at least for me.

Have you had your thyroid checked as well?
I don't think hair loss is because of lack of carbs. It's probably lack of protein and some B-complex. I would try to eat some nutritional yeasts in higher amounts (like 50g or more daily). Also you can try some rice bran and oats bran for B-complex.
You have to mix these resistant carbs with oil

The way you're doing things, you really can't know what's going on. Without tracking macros, and without testing for ketones and glucose, you don't even really know if you're in ketosis. You also can't whether it's food sensitivities, insulin reactions or both. Your hair could be age related, which also points to hormones, but not eating meats could also be the problem. You just can't rule anything out beyond possibly food sensitivities.
True, how does she do it. From her other videos and this one she says she weighs in daily and she's great at listening to her body when it "speaks" to her. She knows how she wants her clothes to feel, and she's a yoga instructor no less, so she's no coach potato lol. Those Keto blood strips are pricey. It's a $50.00 monthly expense here in the U.S. probably more in London. I don't trust the pee or breath methods. Mostly you get a sense of what you can and cannot eat after you've been doing Keto (I'm a couple of days away from my 1 year anniversary on Keto.) What's unique ( in my opinion) is that she's a Vegan Keto "lifestyler" lol if that's a word. I don't know how she does that. But I incorporate some of her dishes into my own Keto w.o.e.. I'm a fan of Fan.

Thank you for self sacrificing :). I've heard of resistant starches, but I'm concerned because I have insulin resistance that it still won't agree with my blood sugar. I should try it out with blood sugar measurements. I love potatoes in all forms except sweet potato :(. Who am I kidding? I love carbs! I follow a youtuber where one host is normoglycemic and the other is insulin resistant. They've demonstrated live, how "carbs" affect their blood glucose differently.
