- A quadrille tune performed by the Marigolds scratch band: Merritt Boddie (pictured), bamboo flute; Samuel Hanley, guitar; Kelvin Liburd, guitar; James Grant, guitar; Joe Liburd, cuatro; Alfred Williams, mandolin; Edmond Henderson, gourd; Hubert Sanders, baha (boom pipe); Anderson Duporte, banjo. Recorded by Alan Lomax and Roger Abrahams in Gingerland, Nevis, July 9, 1962.
I grew up on the island of Nevis listening to Merritt Boddie and his string band. A real legend of the fifties and sixties.
I came across this archive looking for Padstow's May Day song - so many wonderful gems to be seen. Thank you!
Wow.....Glad I found this channel. Subbed. :)
Oh how gives me goosebumps. Mr. Boddie on the fife and cuatro player is awesome
It is the banjo that is pronounced
They still play this on the isle of Nevis! I randomly heard it on a recent John Cleese interview there!
My Momma is coming home 😙☺️🐻🐻🐻🌻🏡
