There’s actually an unknown Bulgarian wine that is good. It could be mistaken for an Italian wine of a certain region (can’t remember which one). Some not so honest wine producers started to put this Bulgarian wine into their wine to cut costs. Anyways that’s the story of how these wine producers were yeeted out of existence by the Italian Government.
Would've loved to see Argentina (#6 according to Wikipedia) and Chile (#7) get into a massive argument over which of them produces the most wine. At least in South America, their wines (particularly Chilean wines) have a reputation for being affordable, yet definitely very good. Plus, Argentina and Chile arguing would've been very much on point (they've got a (mostly) friendly rivalry going on, what with being neighbors and all that).

As a Frenchman who grew up in a village of winegrowers, I approve of this video! Our wine is one of the best on the planet!! (Our reds are excellent, but we also have very dry whites, rosés, and very tasty Muscadets, also some grays and yellows in certain villages cultivating old varieties of grapes.)

Having drunk french vin ordinaire, I beg to differ. I am sure they produce splendid wine but some of the reds I have sampled on a trip were bloody terrible.

The numbers are off. This should be in billions of liters, not millions. The US produced 700 million US gallons of wine in 2020, and France Produce 46.6 million hectoliters, or about 1.2 billion US gallons. That would translate into about 2.6 billion liters and 5.3 billion liters respectively. Edit: corrected US numbers, was looking at the wrong year.
Yes, the numbers given result in crazy low per capita levels--a fraction of one bottle per person per year, and I find it hard to believe that famous wine-drinking cultures like France and Italy do not consume at least a dozen bottles per adult per year. I think it is tonnes and not liters.
There's a few facts that Portugal produces pretty good wines and like Porto Wine and Alentejo are the best that the world appreciates it, so you forgot to add Portugal in that video
He didn't "forgot". He made the choice not to show it in the video! This is not an exhaustive list!! Argentina for instance produces more wine than Germany and South Africa but he chose not including it. That's the way it is. Now stop crying, Portugal doesn't even produce that much anyway.
you cannot really say who invented wine according to how old it is. it could have been a random swedish guy who forgot his bottle of grape juice somewhere and drank it months later and by the way, nobody "invented" wine it's not an invention it's a discovery according to the fact it's a natural process
To be fair, there are some cracking wines from Australia. Also there are some really great wines from smaller-production countries not mentioned, including the UK - mostly SE & E England because that's where the soil and weather are better. The Romans made wine in Britain and apparently it was very good. It does depend, as it does everywhere, on everything being right for a good harvest, but English wines have won international competitions over the years (blind tasting so no bias). I'm saying this and though I am not English, I do live quite close (~10 miles/~16 km) to a vineyard. Our particular climate (fairly localised) is perfect for grape growing. In fact we have grapes growing (ignored by us - i.e. no treatment any different to anything else) in our garden, having wound the stalk around our wire fence. Some birds must have dropped some seeds one year. They're tasty grapes! In our case, it's quality, not quantity!

(it dates from 2018, things may have changed since) knowing that Italy produces more than them. Which suggests 2 things: - Compared to Spain, Italy is either less in demand or it produces more for itself or both. - Compared to France, Italy is either of lower quality or it is more accessible or both. In France we also have "goonbox". We don't only produce sophisticated wines but also simple (doesn't mean bad) wines, and of course cheap and awfull wines... It's just a part of our culture so you can find any quality/price, even wine in plastic bottle !
Having drunk french vin ordinaire, I beg to differ. I am sure they produce splendid wine but some of the reds I have sampled on a trip were bloody terrible.

Also, why are you trying to exclude France like that? We are a mediterranean country as well. Have you ever heard of Provence, Midi, French Riviera?
Also, I'll add to that that mediterranean climate is not exclusive to the mediterranean sea, many countries who produce some of the best wine (Australia, Argentina, Chile, South Africa, New Zealand, California in the US) also have a climate considered mediterranean.
You're also excluding Portugal, Greece and Turkey as great wine countries.

The numbers are off. This should be in billions of liters, not millions. The US produced 700 million US gallons of wine in 2020, and France Produce 46.6 million hectoliters, or about 1.2 billion US gallons.
That would translate into about 2.6 billion liters and 5.3 billion liters respectively.
Edit: corrected US numbers, was looking at the wrong year.
Yes, the numbers given result in crazy low per capita levels--a fraction of one bottle per person per year, and I find it hard to believe that famous wine-drinking cultures like France and Italy do not consume at least a dozen bottles per adult per year. I think it is tonnes and not liters.

He didn't "forgot". He made the choice not to show it in the video! This is not an exhaustive list!! Argentina for instance produces more wine than Germany and South Africa but he chose not including it. That's the way it is. Now stop crying, Portugal doesn't even produce that much anyway.

To be fair, there are some cracking wines from Australia. Also there are some really great wines from smaller-production countries not mentioned, including the UK - mostly SE & E England because that's where the soil and weather are better.
The Romans made wine in Britain and apparently it was very good. It does depend, as it does everywhere, on everything being right for a good harvest, but English wines have won international competitions over the years (blind tasting so no bias). I'm saying this and though I am not English, I do live quite close (~10 miles/~16 km) to a vineyard. Our particular climate (fairly localised) is perfect for grape growing. In fact we have grapes growing (ignored by us - i.e. no treatment any different to anything else) in our garden, having wound the stalk around our wire fence. Some birds must have dropped some seeds one year. They're tasty grapes! In our case, it's quality, not quantity!

Wine lovers have a lot to thank Georgia for. It is widely believed that this is where wine production first began, over 7000 years ago. In fact, our word “wine” is derived from “gvino” - the Georgian word for wine. Archaeological remains suggest that as early as 4000 BC grape juice was being placed in underground clay jars, or quevri (also known as kvevri), to ferment during the winter.
The vine is central to Georgian culture and tightly bound to their religious heritage. It is common for families throughout Georgia to grow their own grapes and produce wine. Feasting and hospitality are central pillars of Georgian culture, and traditional banquets are presided over by a toastmaster, or Tamada, who proposes numerous toasts throughout the meal, and ensures the wine flows liberally.
Georgia is a land famed for its natural bounty. These days there are over 500 species of grape in Georgia, a greater diversity than anywhere else in the world, with around 40 of these grape varieties being used in commercial wine production. Conditions are well suited for viticulture: summers are rarely excessively hot, winters are mild and frost-free. In addition, the mountains around the vineyards are full of natural springs, and rivers drain mineral-rich waters into the valleys. All this comes to say that Georgian wines have a reputation for being exceptionally pure.
Around 170 million litres of wine are produced each year in Georgia, with around 48 000 hectares of vineyards under cultivation. There are 18 Specific Viticulture Areas (a local analogy of the Controlled Appellations of Origin) where the grape variety, planting density and yield per hectare is controlled by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Georgia’s wines fall into several zones: Kakheti and Kartli in the east, and Imereti, Samegrelo, Guria, Ajaria, and Abkhazia in the west. By far the most important of these is Kakheti, which produces 70% of all Georgian wine. The map below shows where these can be found, along with the most important Specific Viticulture Areas.

I stopped watching when you uploaded the Classics compilation video. You have not changed. There is a reason why MrSpherical is nearly at 1 mil while you are only halfway there. Your last Animation (that actually is one) was Salesmen of the year (1 month ago). You are no longer the hard working countryball animator I watched 1 year ago.
What is interesting is that in exports, Spain is No. 1 in terms of volume and France is No. 1 in terms of value. (it dates from 2018, things may have changed since) knowing that Italy produces more than them.
Which suggests 2 things:
- Compared to Spain, Italy is either less in demand or it produces more for itself or both.
- Compared to France, Italy is either of lower quality or it is more accessible or both.
It's quite amusing to see that these 3 countries each have a No. 1 asset compared to the others.
