Our EKKO Modifications

- All of the changes we made to our new 2023 Winnebago EKKO before hitting the road for Season Five in 2023.
Timeline:
1:38 - Mod One: Removed the tailgate package (outdoor kitchen) and installed a shelf.
5:08 - Mod Two: Removed the entertainment center and created a storage cubby.
9:29 - Mod Three: Installed a weBoost cell signal amplifier.
13:43 - Mod Four: Installed a ceiling fan cover.
15:36 - Mod Five: Sprayed T-9 into all the locks and the retractible steps to make them work easier.
16:25 - Mod Six: Installed a clothes line in the bathroom.
17:51 - Mod Seven: Removed the Molle panels and replaced one with an Obie organizer.
18:58 - Mod Eight: Installed thermometer and hygrometer with three remote sensors.
21:12 - Mod Nine: Installed a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System).
22:41 - Mod Ten: Installed propane tank monitors.
23:42 - Mod Eleven: Mounted two waste bins under the bathroom sink.
24:53 - Mod Twelve: Installed motion detector lights.
28:15 - Mod Thirteen: Secured e-bikes in the gear garage.
32:55 - Mod Fourteen: Installed paper towel holder.
34:23 - Mod Fifteen: Installed Everything Keepers.
35:25 - Mod Sixteen: Built another pantry shelf and added a velcro strap for one shelf.
37:19 - Mod Seventeen: Installed a Super Slider for sewer hose and Americanizer.
38:37 - Mod Eighteen: Removed closet rods from both wardrobes.
39:25 - Mod Nineteen: Removed cabinet door from passenger side wardrobe and added laundry hamper.
41:22 - Mod Twenty: Built a shelf for the driver side wardrobe cabinet.
42:18 - Mod Twenty One: Built a shelf for the dinette overhead cabinet.
44:38 - Mod Twenty Two: Built a shelf for the cabinet under the stove.
46:46 - Mod Twenty Three: Installed bins on the doors of the cabinet under the stove.
48:27 - Mod Twenty Four: Turned some of the compartment locks so they would be more consistent.
48:57 - Mod Twenty Five: Added glow-in-the-dark tape to bedroom steps and the entry door header.
50:50 - Mod Twenty Six: Removed hook on door of water compartment and installed an organizer.
52:37 - Mod Twenty Seven: Had ceramic tinting added to the cab windows.
53:41 - Mod Twenty Eight: Built a spice rack.
56:18 - Mod Twenty Nine: Installed hooks under the microwave cabinet to hang our net bag.
59:15 - Mod Thirty: Built a shelf in the gear garage.
1:01:13 - Mod Thirty One: Removed the two bedroom cushions and replaced with two soft-sided storage boxes.
1:01:57 - Mod Thirty Two: Had a vinyl decal added to the back of the EKKO.
1:02:41 - Mod Thirty Three: Installed screen across hole behind dinette bench.
1:03:50 - Mod Thirty Four: Mounted Red Tail Lodge collage in bedroom.
1:05:26 - Mod Thirty Five: Replaced DC power switch.
1:07:04 - Mod Thirty Six: Installed inside screen door latch.

Is there anything you like about your purchase? I love the Ekko and will not change anything.
We love our EKKO, but just like everything, there is always room for improvement. Customizing to meet our particular needs is always a plus. Besides, Keith likes to tinker.
I saw that you added an aftermarket TPMS. My EKK0 has a tire pressure moniter in the digital dashboard display. It takes a few steps in the menu to get to it "Settings-Vehicle Maintenance-Tire Pressure" (it's easier on my Ranger). Is the Ford TPMS not accurate?
Hi Paul, The Ford TPMS is probably accurate but there are a couple of reasons we added the aftermarket one. First is that we like to drive with the menu screen that shows distance until empty and not have to remember to switch to the TPMS screen to see what the current pressures are. Like the built in Ford system, the aftermarket will warn you when pressures are too low. However, the aftermarket will also warn you if tire pressures get too high and if tire temperatures get too high (which can also be an indicator of overheated brakes as we’ve had an experience with on our previous Transit campervan). As we have been able to tell, the Ford system doesn’t warn for these additional potential issues. But please let us know if we’re wrong about that.
do those coach seats (the ones behind the drivers seat) move or lay down?
No, they do not.
We get our coach sometime in March, great summary. Can you tell me what the screw sizes were that you used on the spice racks? Putting screws in causes the most concern!
Keith doesn't remember exactly. Probably between 1/2" and 3/4" in length. They were pan head, lathe screws.

Can you tell me where you got your screen in mod 33?
Home Depot. Then we had to cut it to right size.
What type of adhesive tape did you use for the soapbox container to the wheel well? Ours has been falling off in high temperature weather. Thank you.
We first used Black Gorilla Tape which seemed to hold. However, when we replaced the batteries in the temperature sensor, we put it back up using Gaffers tape, which has not been holding. We'll go back to the gorilla tape and probably move the location to the back bumper near the license plate. We'll let you know how it goes. It's still a work in progress.
@@BackroadBuddies We also used the gorilla tape...It fell off of the plastic box. Cleaned up the box. It must have had a releasing agent (oils). Next used denatured alcohol and sanded it. Placed the container on the frame underneath the passenger seat ~forward of the steps. Working so far.
@@techiebug Yes, we used alcohol with the gorilla tape and not with the gaffers tape, which may have been our issue as well. However, in between the rear bumper and the rig, behind the license plate, is a little ledge that the box could rest on, then the tape to hold it in place wouldn't have as much pressure on it. It should be shaded most of the day, but perhaps might get a little sun for a few minutes each day.

Great video! Wondering if you can share the 80/20 specs / dimensions for the shelf you installed in the kitchen cupboard.
Here are some rough dimensions. Please measure your own rig, as they might be slightly different. There are lots of things under the stove that you have to work around, such as the water filter, hoses, wires and a square bump-out. Basically, there is an 80/20 piece about 21" long that runs across the front of the shelf. Then a piece along the right wall that is about 9" long. The piece on the left side is offset from the wall allow room for the water filter and other hoses and is about 13" long. Another 9" piece runs along the back wall. They are all anchored to the walls using angle brackets. Then a sheet of ABS plastic was cut and fits into the slot of the 80/20 pieces. Hope that helps!
Thanks this is very helpful. Did you order the ABS sheet from 80/20 or source it yourself? I find the 80/20 web site thorough but a bit overwhelming and difficult to navigate.
@@rogerswierstra6818 We've also found the 80/20 web site to be an expensive way to source it due to their shipping charges. We order it from Grainger and pick it up from one of their stores close to home. The quarter inch haircell ABS plastic we get from Colorado Plastics. Hopefully there is some place close to you that you can source this from.

Be careful with all the magnets. They'll pull out all of your electrons and electrolytes.
Yes, magnets and electricity are closely related. Electrical currents create magnetic fields and magnetic fields can create electrical currents. So putting strong magnets near electronics may cause problems with the electronics.
