Hey John, thanks a ton for sharing your essays and posting this video! The way you tell stories is very inspiring. I was able to get into a M7 school by following your advice without using any MBA coaches.
Educational content can be overwhelming, but this video really eased many nerves with its direct simplistic nature. I feel more equipt and directed finishing the last year of my undergrad and moving into a company making the most impactful difference, much appreciated Jay!
Hey I have also recently completed my undergrad and I will be joining a company. I wanted to connect with someone at my level so that we can share our experiences and discuss the future pathway. Are you interested in exchanging socials?
Having just gone through a very stressful/unorganized application process but luckily been admitted to an M7 B School, I really wish this video existed before I started applying. Spot on content.
Another banger John!! So much value in a 12 minute vid. I’m grinding the GMAT now and hearing your experience with that makes me feel much better! It’s certainly a beast, but one that can be tamed! Still a few years away from applying, but excited to continue leveling up in both my traditional career (JPM IB) and unique side hustle (YT creator)!
This is one of the best and relatable "how to B school" videos I've seen on youtube! Thanks for the great content :) hopefully I can put the lessons into practice and hit you up for an informational alum interview when I start my application process
My best friend's son just got into Stanford's Graduate School of Business! We are in Canada but he will likely end up in tech law. He just finished law school! Great career ahead!! Fabulous video and superb tips Jay!! You rock!! 🙂
John you’re the best!! Please can you do more videos on how to ask for recommendations (I’m struggling with this), and how to write essays? Plus GRE prep ❤
You're awesome, and I love your channel. After reading your essay, I noticed our shared background of coming to the U.S., and your essay reminded me of my own experiences. Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing!
Hey John, Kudos and Thank-you for this and your other longish - but super useful - video on what one learns in a Business School/MBA. Both of them were great summaries and super-useful for me to get a great overview on the subject matter. Thank-you so much for so generously making them and much appreciate your efforts in doing so. Thank-you also for generously sharing your resume and your essay. Both of them super-useful, to say the least. So Thank-you, much!!!! And here is sincerely wishing that the universe amply rewards your genoristy. Gracias!!! 🙇♂🙇♂🙇♂🙏🙏🙏☮☮☮
Love the videos John! Started watching you recently and everything's super informative/inspiring. I'd love to see a video on how you got to where you are today - schools, experiences, jobs... everything!
the vast majority of people will not be able to get above 700 on the GMAT, someone that's so gifted and has obviously studied a lot in his life to already be so fast and well prepared for the math etc. telling people that it's THAT easy... is like Usain Bolt telling you if you just practice a bit systematically you WILL hit the olympics... you are absolutely amazing at taking standardized tests my man you scored better than 99/100 dedicated people with a college degree from around the world.
But most people are not people who apply to top tier business schools. I think for anyone who thrives in a competitive intellectual environment, the GMAT should be the least of their application worries
I agree a bit but I also believe this is where he could have mentioned getting a tutor or pivoting to GRE. Some top b schools have a GMAT waiver. It doesn’t hurt to try and do your best.
Thanks. I have a nontrad background - not IB - and for the longest time I didn’t realize this was actually an asset, also with a similar bg to you and I’ll be applying to few top east coast programs this year.
Thanks for this video John! I was on the verge of giving up on the GMAT, but your advice is very motivating 😊Stanford is my dream school and I was wondering if you could do a video on MBA scholarships/financing.
Love to hear it Abby! Just take every possible GMAT practice test and I promise you’ll start to “learn” how to take the test. Excited to see you get in! I don’t have the best advice for financing as I’m just on student loans haha (still paying mine off 🤷🏻♂️)
I am now 43 years old and I work as an architect. I have a master’s degree in business administration- (MBA) and I would very much like to get a phd at this age. Is this crazy or what?
Thank you so much for the amazing video! All throughout my undergrad years I also worked as a sales associate for T-Mobile. I now have 2 years of experience in retail banking at Bank of America, after graduating. Do you think my years of working for T-Mobile carry enough weight to have a shot at top MBA programs in the country?
Hi, I am from Uzbekistan. I have a question about work experience. Now, I work as an accountant at private company. This experience is to be counted for experience that is to be required for MBA
I just graduated high school and will start my undergrad this year. I really want to go to a top B-school. Any tips for me? How do I know if the deferral MBA program is for me or should I get the work experience and then decide? Thank you in advance for your time!!
Hey John! Just wondering what undergrad major do they like to see, I’m planning on doing finance with a emphasis in fintech which is just some classes from the CS curriculum with a heavy emphasis in python. Do you believe that is good?
This reminds me of a excerpt from "On writing the college application essay." You shouldn't be thinking of what they want from you. They don't discriminate, like john pointed out in this video. Go back to 4:00 and take a look at all the industries listed. They aren't looking at a rubric going, " well he's not cs", or, " I don't like that he's not in finance." It's a 'holistic' viewing of your story, your resume, your experience, and why you think that business school is right for you. :))) hope that helps
Yes definitely Diego! Any extracurricular or non profit experience adds to your differentiation as a candidate! Highly recommend being “interesting” in a notable way
Hey John ! I’m a surgeon who’s planning to apply for an mba . How much of a role does having a GRE score instead of GMAT effect my chances of getting into a great program . P.S-I’m an international postgraduate
My goal is to make sure to teach everything entirely free online so that folks don't have to pay thousands to the gatekeeping admissions consultants!!!
