Glad it was helpful Anna! I think I picked that up from Greg Hansen here on UA-cam. If you haven’t seen his videos, take a look! Thanks so much for watching!👌🏻
Absolutely Love the video and project!!!! I’m also a big fan of Greg Hanson! He is the reason I started doing assemblage art! Can’t wait to see what you do next!! Thank you so much for sharing your art and process with us!!!
Laura Frazer Thanks so much Laura! When I was searching UA-cam for assemblage I came across Greg and fell in love with assemblage...and his work. So glad you appreciate what I’ve offered up here...it’s so much fun to find little pieces and put them all together. Thanks again.
Inspirational and informative presented by a likeable person. Sometimes I watch assemblage videos and the artists seem to just crank out pieces with materials they apparently buy in bulk. I look in the background of their video and there's 50 doll heads lined up on a big rack which tells me that they don't have to scrounge to find stuff like I do. It puts their "art" on the level of scrapbooking and it seems so mainstream. So common. That kind of thing is discouraging to me so I hit the escape key when I see that a video is going that way. Ms. Cerro has a good eye and an ability to go with the flow as to the materials, glues, tools. The bee piece here was an individual creation and not something to fill up a table at a tent at some hokey art fair. I was interested in that strange saw, E6000 and Greg Hanson mentioned during the presentation. That's what we do. We hear about things from other artists. Thanks, Ms. Cerro.
WOW CW…I’m so sorry I missed your comment..and thank you so much for such kind words! The biggest part of assemblage for me is hunting for cool, old, unusual and sometimes common pieces! I like the adventure of finding an interesting old element with a history as much as I love putting them together in a piece! Thank you so much for noticing!🙏🏻
Oh Denise what a lovely piece of art. This is such a great way to put an assemblage together...love the use of a vintage book and the genius way to keep the book together ,why didn't I think of screws?? LOL I really like that the pages are still separate and not glued together and how easy the glass is attached. Using the pins to raise the honeycomb was such a good idea. All around absolutely amazing.. I can see how Greg inspired you.....he did the same for me. I remember the video where he shows that nifty cutter ,cool tool. Your work Denise is very inspirational for me and I will have to give this book idea a try. : )
Ina...thanks for your sweet words! Happy too that you're a fan of Greg Hanson...he rocks the assemblage! I actually first got interested in using books from one of his video's. Otherwise, I kinda figure out the techniques as I go along, i.e. the pins in the honeycomb. Seems every piece has a few little challenges to deal with...I like that. I hope you get to try books too Ina! Enjoy and thank you for your comments...Denise
WOW!!! Love this so much!! I alter books often- adding art inside the book- but these are super fabulous ways to reuse books- loving the assemblage art in these!!
I found your channel today and ironically Greg’s too, who you mentioned. I love these book assemblages and you do inspire me to give it a go.. thank you.
Hi Mary! I was so excited when I came upon Greg’s work…I leaned so much from him! I’ve moved more towards mixed media art to give me more room to play… but still love doing assemblage art! Give it a go Mary… you’ll have so much fun with it!🤗
Thank you Gigi...I found this book at a thrift store and just waited for the right bees to show up and complete it. I love it too...even though it sold and has a new home, I so enjoyed putting it together.
Thank you Janet...I love altering books, though I do have trouble making those first few cuts into a little piece of history! Once I get going it's all fun and I feel like I'm giving it a new life and possible saving it from the dump! Thanks for watching.
Christie Trout Thanks again Christie... you must have been on a UA-cam streak! I love doing that, before you know it hours have gone by and I get creatively juiced up! Thanks so much for checking out my channel!👩🏻🎨👍🏻🧡
Thank you Loren…it’s one of my favorites! I have a few books cut out and ready to go…just waiting for the perfect story elements to show up! Such a fun surface to build on…glad you like it and thanks for watching and commenting!🧡
Yes, I really like assembling and I will definitely try to use the book, as you did. But since I do not have all these accessories that you have, for me it will be a long process.
Thank you Cheryl...it is one of my favorite projects! I have a stack of old books I hope to dive into again soon! Thank you for watching and letting me know you enjoyed it!
So sorry I missed your message Rebecca and so happy you are enjoying my creative processes! I’ll be adding more assemblage soon…curious as to what you like more…assemblage or artwork…or the whole creative process? I love it all, though like to know what my followers enjoy. Either way…that you so much for following!
Thanks Kathryn for watching! Everything I find is from thrift stores, flea markets, garage sales or just digging around in my own junk drawers! I know you could probably find small frames like this online…but I love the adventure of the hunt and like adding that energy into my pieces!🧡🙌🏻
I am trying to prepare to downsize and I have this bag of stuff that is 3 dimensional... and it was on the way out! I am going to have to rethink that again now! Oh, dear!!!
Funny Kathleen...I'm in the same boat. So I save my very favorite little bits and pieces and then I don't want to use them because they're too special!!! I'll get over it and use them eventually...I know its hard to have booth...a nice tidy studio + all that goes along with art!
Denise Cerro so true... and it is something that my kids do not understand. One of my girls gave me several cardstock pads she was tired of and my favorite things are the scraps that she stored inside. It was an eye opener for me. I don't think that I had realized that the bits were so attractive to me. I have a hard time using my pretties. I do mostly two dimensional art and have a lot of wonderful papers!
Kathleen Roush The good news is once my collection of “pretties” gets large enough I have to use them...ironically my art is better because of it! Don’t hold back...keep the paper circulation going!🤗👩🏻🎨🧡
I’ll be sure to do that on my next assemblage video Kimberly. It’s pretty easy though…I take a block of wood ( wood floor samples from Home Depot work great and just the right size). I use E6000 glue to attach it to the back and then add a D-ring to the top edge of the wood block to hang from. I hope that makes sense and promise to add that in the next assemblage video…or maybe I’ll do a quick backing video for both art & assemblage pieces! Thanks for the prompt!🙏🏻
I was 1:16 in when I stopped to look up your website. As I typed your name, I was slightly concerned you might consider yourself a crafter and not sale fine art. Yay, you have a page...oh no 🙄 it's Etsy...I think, "it's going to be so under priced :( " Hallelujah, hallelujah 🙌 she knows her WORTH!!!! I'm an artist and as a result, I'm picky about what I'll purchase. Long story short... I'm more likely to buy bc of your price point. Great job!!! This is the first video I've seen, so maybe you already did this, but if not you should definitely explain how you price your work.
You made me smile Lynn! I hope you did get a chance to go to my website and see I'm more an artist than crafter...though I do give into craft sometimes to keep the creative juices flowing! I still feel I'm underpriced, though also like to be at a price point that my art moves and is affordable for most anyone. I do have pieces in galleries that are much higher price points...so I kinda cover my bases. I haven't done a video on pricing...as I think there may already be a lot online regarding this topic...but I'll look into it. I'm actually working on a video currently that was turning out to craftsy...so I painted it over and will redo it on the video, just to show a do over. I'll post it at the beginning of the week. Thanks for watching and chatting me up...I appreciate it.
@@cerropaint oh yes, your pieces are wonderful! I knew you were an artist in under a minute of this video, I'm just glad you know too! So many talented artists think of themselves as hobbyist and it makes me sad :( I'm most drawn to childhood and pretty little things which I think are only slightly under priced. Also stain on my white shirt and love shack which I think are both very under priced. I just spent a ton of money on creating some huge pieces for a large format purchase prize juried show, so I'm broke. Hopefully I'll have a good check coming in 3 weeks, so you have time to up your prices a bit ;) I do admire you for keeping them in the affordable range for everyone though. I have no intent to do that myself, but it's admirable ;)
Hi Lynne...again thank you for the kind words. I've been an artist my whole life and have been lucky to express that even in the careers I chose before becoming a full time artist. It's been an artful life and I'm part of an artist community in San Diego that supports that lifestyle. Painting, teaching and taking classes keeps me emerged in what I love doing most of all. In this regard its no longer a career choice...its a lifestyle choice...and a very nice one! Good luck on your upcoming show and enjoy the day Lynn!
So sorry…I just caught your comment…only a year later! I’m pleased to say YAY to Greg Hanson!
