    55 lbs may sound great for transporting, though 55 lbs usually means the kayak has a THIN and SHALLOW shell for the hull, so they keep their producton cost low and you get a subpar kayak. For a 10 footer, normally 75lbs minimum to 90 lbs means a thicker shell to protect it from hull breeches and will give you more stability in chop and standing. The wind and rough chop on the water will give you headaches with such a thin and light shell. Plus, thin nylon cord for the rudder steering in water and abrasive sand?? That rudder control cord is doomed to break and fail. Stainless steel is needed. Only 2 rod holders, no keel wheel for transporting and small cargo space in the back… For $1599, there are MUCH better pedal kayaks on the market than this one. Your presentation is great, but you need a better product in my opinion.

      Thx for your opinion. Haven't explored kayaks for a long time and the opportunity landed here, so I took it. Been busy to take this out, so I will soon when kiddo is back in school this fall! Will it break? I will find out for everyone lol!

       @rawrfishing - You're a great presenter and you put together your videos quite well! Kudos! Where are you located? Do you fish lakes or the ocean? Not my opinion, rather simple physics. I've been in canoes and kayaks for over 40 years. A heavier boat will handle MUCH better in wind, tide, currents, and rough conditions. This is commonly known. A lighter boat you will be struggling in conditions. BUT, if you kayak in still lakes with not much wind or currents, you'll be ok in a kayak that only weighs 55lbs. When a kayak is this light, it means it is shallow and/or the rotomolded plastic is thin, thus the reduction in weight. This kayak would be fine for a still lake/pond... I would not recommend using the Vibe Makana 100 for oceans, bays, rivers... or any body of water that has movement with structure, reefs, coral or rocks. I'm located in Tampa Bay and we fish around the mangroves and bridges in the Gulf of Mexico. Currents, wind, waves and motor boats WILL push your kayak into the bridges/piers sooner or later. You want a thicker hull for sure. Like I said, for their price point, there are much better kayaks out there that have more features, and have thicker and deeper hulls that will give you the safety and stability you need. I have the new Neptune Kraken 105 (neptunekayaks.com/) -- FOUR rod holders, a large locked compartment in front and one in the middle, a WIDE stern, lots of compartments for gear, 2 wheels in the back for transportation, center transponder compartment, etc etc, for the same price. If you are near Tampa Bay anytime, swing by and let's go fishing and I can show you. Enjoy your videos! Cheers!

      Thank you for your expertise/insight! It was extremely useful and I appreciate it! Will certainly help with my first impression video!
      I will likely use this for local water ways mainly freshwater ponds, lakes and maybe even calmer bays. I am in new jersey, right outside of Philadelphia. I think most of my lakes within the area is average 3ft lol.
      I will Check those Kayaks out too when I get back from vacation! Cheers mate!

      I think reviews on any companies website could be filtered or removed. Great example is KastKing! I wrote plenty of negative and positive reviews and they have excluded all of my negative reviews.

    Really exciting to see a brand new yak with updated accessories. Very informative walk-through. Hopefully it's more stable than the Hobie. Can't wait to see the maiden voyage.

    Nice looking kayak! I'm a fan of the colorway and some of those handle features for carrying. Maybe we'll need to build a custom battery storage solution for the yaks.

      I think this is a good kayak, not heavy and should be easy to balance on!
      My middle school history teach, whom I ran into a few years ago is about 80 years old. He still kayak and canoe fish and trek all the way into the mountains wading for fish. He says never too old! He got solutions for everything! Of course.. He was working part time at the kayak canoe shop trying to sell me a new kayak and trailer lol...

      @@rawrfishing I have to go to dialysis 3 days a week. It's really weakened me physically, and my balance is off as well. Hopefully things will change if I get a kidney in the future, but for now, I will just have to enjoy all these great videos you put out! I appreciate you more than you know because people like you help me get through all of this suffering! Thank you!

      @rawrfishing  2 місяці тому

      I am 5'5". I feel it works well. The impulse drive is slow atm, so I would avoid that and stick with the x drive. Also the impulse drive, my legs just made it with it closest to me.. But shouldn't be an issue for taller folks. But again, avoid the impulse drive for now

  • @brandonmerideth5450

    I have been eyeballing this kayak for a while! 3 main reasons for me one i have an oldtown pdl as my main kayak for when i want to bring all my gear but sometimes I just one to bring a backpack and two rods with me so I want a smaller kayak but I also want a smaller kayak in case i want to bring someone else with me. Also I fish some grassy areas and sometimes my pedal drive just isn’t the easiest to navigate the super thick stuff or smaller places so that way I would have one kayak with the pedal drive and one with the fin drive

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  2 місяці тому +2

      I will take this out with the fins soon. i played with the impulse drive first cuz i went out to the inlet.. bad move. the smaller rudder was bad for current and the impulse drive was a bit slow. So i'll wanna take it out for at least a freshwater lake with no current and see how the rudder works with the x-drive (hobie style fins) So stay tuned! I'll try to do it next week while kid is at summer camp

    how long does it usually take to get the makana to arrive?

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  3 місяці тому +3

      when it finally was available, it took less than a week for the carrier to pick it up, then it took a week to get to my area, then they give you options on when you can have it delivered. i took it asap, but it was like 5 days later including the wekeend. so total is around 3 weeks!

    the rudder is undersized and causes tracking issues and the place to keep your paddle sucks. My only two complaints about it otherwise I love it overall.

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  2 місяці тому +1

      yes. the impusle drive comes with a pod that works with it. I would wait tho. The impulse drive is too slow atm. but i heard a higher gear ratio will be made so it can spin faster!

      @@Thegreatkayak I just gotten it so not sure if it was a left over 2023 or 2024. Biggest difference I was told is that it offers the other drive. But i got that too and it's slow. They said they will make changes soon to the impulse drive... The pedal x drive is faster at the moment. From what I see from what my recollection at 2023 icast.. It's the same?

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  Місяць тому

      Holy smokes. I took it once out, but was in the bay near inlet. Thought it was bad too. Used the impulse drive. Too slow. And the turning was bad. I am waiting for an updated drive. But definitely won't solve the rudder issue. Ptsd right now! Can't get back on! Until some stuff resolved!
