- Slayer perform 'Praise of Death' in a legendary performance at the Ritz in NY, 86. I know this clip has already been uploaded to you tube a few times, but those clips all have the same horrendous 'ripped by' markings from the same ripper.
That double bass sounds like a machine gun from hell, Lombardo is a fucking machine!
Lol nice comparison
That was Lombardo’s last show with Slayer for over a year
Hell awaits is Slayer's most creative album. IMPO
I also think it is a great album but I say Seasons has more variaty
For historical reasons it's the most important for sure. In 1985, nothing sounded like Hell Awaits, basically it's the first death metal album.
And Seven Churches by Possessed
Edosardo73 no way
neither hell awaits
neither possesed's album
first death album ever is Scream Bloody Gore and thats that, sorry
ChickenMcPussy sorry for late reply
I consider scream bloody gore to still be thrash. Leprosy is the first death metal album
2:31
Running and hunting and slashing
And crushing and searching
And seeing and stabbing and shooting
And thrashing and smashing and
Burning destroying and killing
And bleeding and pleading then Death
☠️☠️☠️😈😈
The part that makes my English teacher cry
Pretty cool. I can hear Araya's bass.
Herreken that's exactly what I was thinking!
I wish this was the case at every concert.
Let me tell you, this is probably the best Slayer song to play on guitar. Fast as shit, heavy, thrashy, and INSANE!
SlaytanicTallicaFan999 and great bass
the whole hell awaits album is some kick ass guitaring!
Great song to drum also
This and Crypt of Eternity.
My favorite songs off the album.
The screaming approach towards the rhythm is crazy good.
It's one of the few songs Kerry wrote on his own. Albeit he didn't have Jeff's talent he was nonetheless a very crafty guitarist and worked really hard to deliver a merciless pounding.
this lineup and this era is the best. you will never see a slayer show as fast as this nowadays. say what you want about Lombardo, but he was the king. they are old now and it shows.
not really bud
EXACTLY!!!
I wouldn’t say it’s all about speed, but how much of an All around drummer Lombardo is now.. look at his achievements.. he was the thrash master back in the day. My favorite metal drummer.
was lucky seen them twice all originals tom jeff Kerry Dave SLAYERRRRRRR!!!! 4 LIFE
Slayer were a perfect metal killing machine during this time period - no thrash metal band could match their raw power, frantic pace, intense energy, and sheer aggression, and no band was as tight and precise live.
Damn straight. It’s mindblowing, they were actually tighter live than on record. I saw them in 88 and probably just took that for granted, didn’t notice or appreciate that aspect of the show. Too busy getting my head kicked in.
@@MDK2_Radio
I saw them 4 or 5 times between 1985 and '87
And then a couple times in the 90's, but it wasn't them same with Dave. Luckily the last time I saw them (I think in 2005) was the first tour that they had Dave back.

Praise of Jeff!
The Album "Hell Awaits" is totaly awesome from front to back.
and that my friends is what is was like to see fucking Slayer!!! I didn't realize at the time but it's was once in a lifetime vibe. It cannot be reproduced. those shows were so crazy you youngsters wouldn't survived
Ok boomer
That's Gen X.... Boomers don't listen to fucking Slayer.
I have to agree, dude. My uncle would see Slayer all the time at the Country Club in Reseda, CA (one of the metal Meccas in LA). But he said the crazy show he saw was a Celtic Frost show in Long Beach, CA where people were literally hanging off the rafters. I thought he was exaggerating, but that show is on UA-cam and it’s true. I can’t say I’ve ever seen anything like that in person.
This song's breakdown is prolly one of my all time favorites
fuk yeaaaaaaaa
WOW this show reminds me of the Hell Awaits album, reason being-YOU can Hear TOMs BASS!!!
They were so close to death metal
but sooo much better!
Toms bass is so present in the mix here, love it!
R.I.P. HANNEMAN
lombardo is a machine gun D=
Love this album, it's the loudest tom's bass has ever been on an album
As a bassist I noticed Tom Araya is playing finger style here 🤘
he had such an amazing voice back then
I was at this show the dudes on stage were a pain but so what they played haunting the chapel show no mercy hell awaits and reign in blood im blessed
so awesome, 86 was there year what an awesome tour. This was Slayer at there peak!
If I had a time machine I would go to this show🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘❤️
RITZ was awesome place to see show so was Studio 54 Pallidium to Lamours In Bklyn NY and East to Queens NY Felt Forum to 80s best Decade for HM music clubs to movies.
I don’t know about anybody else here but I listen to old Slayer for the Bass
Holy Shit, what an expressive Example for SLAYER´s formally Sound, Power and Precision... !
3 minutes and 20 seconds in....Slayer was fucking heavy back in the day....what a HEAVY FUCKING RIFF. Man, if I wasn't two years old at the time I would slaying bodies in that pit!
indeed my friend, jeffs solo in that riff was one his best also
Listen to that F****NG snare drum!! This is so bad ass 🤘🏻🎸🤘🏻
This sounds very good. I miss old days Slayer in concert. Fantastic live band.
Best Slayer live performance on UA-cam. Awesome.
Yeah, it was back before the band started using EMG's like most metal bands seem to do now. Also, this was when Araya was still using his fingers to pick the bass, and the guitarists were using the older JCM 800's and DiMarzio pickups. I love the old 800's, esp. the 2 channel 100 watt model. The clean channel wasn't the cleanest, but for a metal band, that crunchy clean tone works well with the lead channel.
Deffo one of the best songs from Hell Awaits
THE best song off Hell Awaits
Best part is a 3:21 when Jeff, Kerry, and Tom start headbanging simultaneously!
My favorite Slayer album ever.
lombardo is a monster behind the drum kit, long live the KING!!!
Good quality for such old footage.
Dude I fucking love your old school Slayer videos keep it up man \m/
This song is FUCKING SICK!
my favvvvvv slayer song!
The most insane slayer crowd ever
Every one of these stage bouncers well into the late 50s or 60s by now
Damn! Those solos kick ass!
The best song of SLAYER!
2:31 DAVE AK-47 FUCKING LOMBARDO!
Paul could never match this intensity
@@robertwalker3357 The crazy part is that Dave can still play the same as he did back then! Seen him play for Testament!
I was 3 or 4 rows in front of the camera at the intro of the song
the fucking drums oh my god
@punk4561 I can't speak for him being the first, but he was definitely a pioneer in those early metal days. People must have been absolutely floored by songs like 'Praise of Death' and 'At Dawn they Sleep' when Hell Awaits was first released in 85
PINNACLE OF THRASH METAL RIGHT HERE!
1:26 Security forgot he was working for a sec 😂😂. You just cant ignore that badass riff 🔥🔥
Toms bass sounds sick
im wearing the exact same shirt right now that king is wearing, never seen anyone else wear it. Fucking badass song
I wish I lived in 1986!!! The year of metal, say no more
I WAS AT THIS SHOW!!!!
ale brzmienie, jeden z najlepszych utworów jakich słyszałem. dziwne, że przestali to grać na koncertach .
1:22 What a evil sound and atmosphere... 👿
What a day to me alive
slayer=metal,metal=slayer
2:45-3:20 when Jeff and Kerry are soloing back-to-back.. I really wish I could do that...
is there a vid of this gig where the guys do raining blood?
Because that would be even more awesome :)
Right from the start heavy and hard
I can't even air-drum that fast...
This song makes me wanna tear the house up and smash all my shit but I don't wanna buy new shit so I'll just smash the drums instead
Imagine being there ..... !
HOLY SHIT, 3:22 ONWARDS IS GODLIKE
That drum beat is amazing
@Lionmegaheart you got to give it to them, even the solos as wacky as they sound they make sense with Slayer
Wowwwww!!!
Fucking awesome!
FUCKING SLAYER!!!
SHIT!, the double bass was killer on this song.
so cool !!!!!!
3:22 They were grooving.
3:22 Try not to headbang ( Expert mode)
Awesome. SSSSLLLLLAAAAYYYEEERRRR !!!!
Slaaaayeeeeer
2:30
Is that a machine gun or just Lombardo's double bass?
exactly the video i came to to say RIP
Only living to Die..........
Slayer at LaMores in Brooklyn 87...kick F ass.
STage divin..fun
@punk4561 He wasn't the first by a long stretch. I think its use goes back even to the 50s, though it obviously wouldn't have been used like it is in the metal scene nowadays
:40 Dave reminds me of Animal from the Muppets.
I miss Kerry King with hair.
R.I.P Jeff
🤘🏼🤘🏼
2:29 slayer's "to do" list
Come on Jeff do it to me 🤘🏻 😄
RIP 😞
Slayer's best
this shit is so fucking heavy i just had a hernia
my only dream is to watch them play this damn song live in fucking Siberia
Brutal as fck!
There were skinheads working as bouncers that night!! It´s nice to see that among them there were fans! I´m a skinhead myself and Slayer has been my prefered band for ages! I´m a bit old so, it´s easy to understand why I praise the band so much. There were a few bands playing such a nice shit those days!
Raybeez from Warzone is one of the skinhead bouncer
I think the video quality would match the sound quality better with some deinterlacing.
wow excelente lml haha
Fantastico il Cambio di Tempo al minuto 3:18 ! WOW !
Ultimate proto-death metal
As amazing as Reign in Blood is just like all there albums.. Fuck i'd really rather Slayer play the whole Hell Awaits album then the whole Reign in Blood album because its ALOT better
I remember listening to this song on a record!lol If you spin the hell awaits song backwards theres a message for you!!!!! JOIN US JOIN US
@TheMarcopolo74 this is no excuse, i wasnt even born
this is 100% machine gun!!!
이게 메탈이지 이게 메탈이야
I can actually hear the bass. That's new lol
Everyone is missing Jeff Hanneman
