kodashmee 1997 That's funny after almost anything I've read on here about Lars is negative. Lars himself would tell you that Lombardo blows him away. I've said this on a ton of other videos on here that Lars says that he's "adequate" as far as his drumming goes. But, yeah, Lombardo rules. Charlie Benante is right up there with him as well.
Saw them in Providence, just days before this. Nothing could prepare me for the crystal clear, volume. Punching, gut wrenching. The most intense thing I ever saw.
I'm 50 years old now but when I discovered Slayer n this also was in 86 I was only 12 years old so that means most of these lucky people who attended this is now in they 60s maybe 70s is crazy 2 me
Damn!! Lombardo is really kicking those drumheads to death!! I've been to a whole lot of Slayer concerts, but not the really early one's.. "What a shame!" I did see SOD live at Budokan there at the Ritz though. You can see that on UA-cam and its worth the watch!
met him, said on South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss album all fingers on south of heaven tour fingers most of the time seasons tour 50/50 pick fingers after that albums and tours all pick, that's all he said about it
This is one of the best live versions of these songs I've seen on UA-cam. Especially Angel of Death. Arayas vocals are incredible. Lombardo drumming unmatched. Guitars sound amazing. Wouldve loved to be at that show. Killer stuff
Jeff rules! Hard to believe that 25 years ago I was heavily into Reign In Blood when most people though Slayer was 'scary'. I'm glad they conquered the world.
Well yeah, back when he was actually wasn't an old fat worn out man. Slayer died with jeff (The hammered the final nail in the coffin of the band by even kicking dave out after that). This is slayer. What's left now on stage is just an insult to the fans..
I first saw slayer in 1986 with Overkill at The Cleveland Agora! I've seen them almost every single year since! Last was in 2014 at Riot fest in Denver! All Hail Slayer!
I'll finish my thought lol I first seen them in Long Beach where Jeff RIP and myself are from then they did a lunch time session at South Gate HS where Dave went to school mostly Maiden and Priest covers then next thing you know it got better a little satanic and really fast great stuff
Back when Slayer KICKED TOTAL FUCKIN ASS..they're still great, just lost their edge! All epic bands do..I'll ALWAYS LOVE Jeff(R.I.P.),Tom and Dave..Kerry can go scratch!
I remember my mother wouldnt let me go to this show cause I was only 12 and she didnt know my friends brother who was driving,Im still pissed off about not being able to go this show
@houseshoesbto It's Dave on the video. You can see his face when the cam is closing on Tom's face. Dave started the tour with slayer after the reign studio recording. And then left during the tour and not for financial reasons but because the members didn't let him take his wife to the tour. And then later before the european tour he rejoined. He missed only a few shows, but on this one it's him.
Damn i was 16 and couldn't get a ticket for this show!! Was there outside the door beggin like a teenage jackass, but to no avail. HA! 22 years later I finally get to see the show.....yeah it was a good show. But caught them a few years later anyway. Still kicked ass!
saw em the same week as this vid in sacto, fuck it was so rad..tom araya playing w/o a pick is what made slayer sound so rad back then all muddy and murky
YEEEAAAHHH i remember that time......😲 STAGEDIVING.......😲.......RUMBLINGHEAD.......YEEEAAAHHH 😆😆😆 Greetings from a SURFPUNK from GERMANY. MC PUNK 🖖 PS.: PUNKS NOT DEAD
good old days... jeff was alive, kerry had hair, tom headbanging, lombardo killing it...
TheJazzmaster81 yeah they all lost it
Lombardos still got it fuckhead
Tom also used fingers
The SS guitar, too.
The best fuckin band in the whole fukkking world, mothafuckrrrs
That bass though, it's actually audible lol
I was thinking the same thing. The bass is always mixed super low on the records
i heard it too...i was trippin
Lombardo was miles ahead of all the other metal drummers even back then.
There with you, I hate when people try to say lars is better, I love metallica but Lombardo destroys lars.
kodashmee 1997 That's funny after almost anything I've read on here about Lars is negative. Lars himself would tell you that Lombardo blows him away. I've said this on a ton of other videos on here that Lars says that he's "adequate" as far as his drumming goes.
But, yeah, Lombardo rules. Charlie Benante is right up there with him as well.
if you compare the 80's both perfomances, they are head to head, after that is 100% lombardo
not Gene Hoglan. Gene Hoglan taught Dave Lombardo how to double bass
A New Horizon yeah but i was referring to the keyboard warriors who argue that lars is better, i never said lars would agree or disagree
The golden age of Slayer. They sound so good here.
Cool username. Deathspell Omega album title
Tom's voice sounds so brutal and agressive lml !!
🤟
Two of their heaviest songs being played on their prime live = Fucking Epic!!!
You mean the most popular songs? It's epic tho
I envy all those lucky bastards that got to experience this live on site.
R.I.P Kerry's hair
R.I.P Jeff
R.I.P Tom's Neck
@@leonardomuccillo2385 & Dave Lombardo is Okay! 👍
Kerry was already balding in this video too if you caught it
Saw them in Providence, just days before this. Nothing could prepare me for the crystal clear, volume. Punching, gut wrenching. The most intense thing I ever saw.
where did they play in Providence?
@@SecretWeapon62578 the Living Room….
'86-'90 was the top era of Lombardo, totally insane.
top era of metal
Absolutely. Was a thrill to live through it all. My high school years.
Holy shit that solo part in Angel of Death. So powerful, Jeff knew how to make that guitar talk.
Toms basslines are summoning pazuzu.
0:40 - 0:55 is fundamental :D
+Gore Elohim Thought he was a pick bass player, seems to be using his fingers on this performance, interesting sounds awesome though
+kpax45 He played with fingers up until South of Heaven, then he went to picks.
@@kpax45 as Padre said, Tom played finger style until after Reign In Blood and pre-South Of Heaven
That double bass is amazing.
Just chillin and cuddlin with my cat. while listening to slayer. i love this.
Lol easy listening I call it great for napping
I'm 50 years old now but when I discovered Slayer n this also was in 86 I was only 12 years old so that means most of these lucky people who attended this is now in they 60s maybe 70s is crazy 2 me
NO ONE can top Lombardo, especially the double bass. very accurate and always consistant
The fastest double kick at the time
David Lombardo:The BEAST there is,The BEAST there was,The BEAST there ever will be.Amen.
Gene
Hell Yeah, Dave is the best
Dave is kicking so much ass here it is just ridiculous!!!!
Whoever filmed this God bless you I was there Slayer thank you so much for this probably my favorite video God bless you and Slayer
VHS son gotta love it bootleg videos and worn out porn from too much rewinding lol
Lombardo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🤟
Best Slayer-live-video of all time. I even enjoy the...let's call it "old school"-video quality :)
Old school VHS bootleg videos and worn out porn from too much rewinding lol
A performance like that is why slayer are still icons of metal over 20 years later.
Damn!! Lombardo is really kicking those drumheads to death!! I've been to a whole lot of Slayer concerts, but not the really early one's.. "What a shame!" I did see SOD live at Budokan there at the Ritz though. You can see that on UA-cam and its worth the watch!
Great tour! My first time that I saw Slayer was 1984. My friend and I helped move the equipment in their truck!😂❤
You must be an old geezer!
It really is amazing how much Tom’s voice sounds like the albums. Dudes as legit as it gets.
This was 11 years before I was born. Still so amazing
Despite low quality, the instruments and vocals were very understandable.
Dave’s drums.. toms bass and vocals.. everything I ever wanted in slayer
2:07 Dear, cute and brilliant hanneman... why u leave us...
Dave. Fucking. Lombardo
Daniel Hübner That’s not Dave Lombardo.
UA-cam SUCKS - it's definitely the human metronome himself...
I never noticed until now that Tom played with his fingers!
he did back in the day. not sure why he doesn't anymore.
Yep way back in the day he did. Think he started using a pick on South of Heaven.
SKONJIE when playing with fingers you get really deep slashes in ur fingers from years of play...maybe he wasn't about that life
hahahaha! What!?...No!
met him, said on South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss album all fingers on south of heaven tour fingers most of the time seasons tour 50/50 pick fingers after that albums and tours all pick, that's all he said about it

I bet the fog machine guy got fired after this gig.
no way! fog machines where its at in the 80s!
Aw man, I figured they'd opened a portal to Hell
I saw him recently he's a greeter at Walmart
Chemical Warfare, indeed.
They wanted to fire fog machine guy....couldn't find him lool
RIP Jeff Hanneman, he truly did thrash till death.
May his legacy live on!
Just one sentence:
Dave's a GOD
from a time where not everybody played the doublebass with clicky triggers... sounds so good
No doubt about that. Pounding precision and brutal as fuck. The guys that followed in his footsteps owe him alot...
And 6:44 proves it.
Jeff rules! Hard to believe that 25 years ago I was heavily into Reign In Blood when most people though Slayer was 'scary'. I'm glad they conquered the world.
El doble bombo de Lombardo se escucha tan perfecto en la salida de Angel Of Death.
Aguante Dave Lombardo!!!!
Ángel of Death!!!!!
Raning Blood!!!!!
Wonderful video. Lovely vintage, old school feeling.
Hey man, this is 1986 !!! Slayer was the best thing in Metal, and still are now. Hanneman was a very fast on solos. Great, great!!!
God. The way Tom’s bass and Dave’s double bass is coming through the mix....... Jesus....🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
It's Lombardo. It's unmistakably his style playing those fills. Also, that is unmistakably his face at 3:05.
tom fucking tears the bass up on this vid
Oh 80's bouncers. How I miss thee. Anyone notice when the one in the middle just chunks a kid back into the audience?
Guitar Whores LOL YES
Raybeez of Warzone on the left and Gavin van Vlack of Absolution on the far right. Hardcore legends.
2:41 when you step on a lego
Andrej Bogicevic lolz
LOL
I love the fact that you can actually hear the bass.
Lombardo, just.....................awesomeness of the highest degree
Absolutely amazing. Slayer will live on forever, even after they retire.
I was there! I almost died. Good times.
Saw them in Trenton the night before! Almost dies as well was only 15!!
U guys are so lucky.. Wish i was born in the 70's.. :(
I was 15 too. My sister got a table upstairs and got me drinks. It was nice to be able to sit down after the onslaught.
DeadlyHord3 It was a good time to be around. My sister that got me into Slayer took me to see KISS in '78. My first show. I was 8. Blew my mind.
I remember going to one of their shows in 85 in their hell awaits tour
Dave Lombardo dialing in from hell, thank you very much !
Love watching old SLayer...Tom doesn't even sound close to this anymore
bad ass,you can hear toms bass!
Well yeah, back when he was actually wasn't an old fat worn out man. Slayer died with jeff (The hammered the final nail in the coffin of the band by even kicking dave out after that). This is slayer. What's left now on stage is just an insult to the fans..
Zulamun Gaming Well put, Sir.
Zulamun Gaming To be honest I have hope. However they haven't made anything good in awhile. But Gary Holt is a damn good guitarist.
Black Magik
And yet, it still will not be slayer!
6:43 omfg !!
Lombardo, the god.
Tom playing is without a pick.
Legendary performance !!
Look how crazy that crowd was, damn I wish I could go back to the late 80's and see these guys live.
so lucky to have been at that show. so f-n tight!
Tom must be a fan of King Diamond because of that big high pitched "AHhHhHh..."
I first saw slayer in 1986 with Overkill at The Cleveland Agora! I've seen them almost every single year since! Last was in 2014 at Riot fest in Denver! All Hail Slayer!

Paul has declined in recent years unfortunately

I would actually give up one of my nuts to be able to go back in time and see this live.
Awesome show. I was there. Missed Death Angel and most of Overkill.
