So happy to see your review on one of my well-loved authors! Yes, our Hungarian pronunciation is good. If you want to read more excellent Hungarian literature, I strongly recommend Sándor Márai's Embers or György Dragomán's Bone Fire, or The White King.
I can see why she is one of your favorites! 🤩 Thank you for the recommendations!!!
I'm reading now Katalin Street by Magda Szabo and so far, I love it, but so far, I would say it would be a 4-4.5 star book. Szabo has a peculiar writing style that I need all my focus to understand the non-linear timeline and what is going on with the characters, but I say that in a very positive way. I love the book and the writing, and it gets easier to understand who is who and where they are the more I read. I definitely plan to read more from this author, and now Abigail might become my next read by Szabo. I saw your video when I put Szabo's name on search to see whether any booktuber likes the author, and I'm glad that you do!
I really need to read more from her as well! You’re right - she has her own style and it’s great! And thanks so much for watching! ❤️

You’ll make me pick up an alphabet chart and read it if you ever choose to put it in a review, Alana 😂🤣
LOOOOOOL! I hope you enjoy it!
Don’t give me any ideas 🤣
I've had this book on my radar for a while but you made me want to read it even more!
Yaaaaay! I’m glad!!
Thank you for putting this on my radar! I'd never heard of it, but it sounds like one I'll really enjoy.
Ooooh I do think you’ll like this one! 🙌🏼
I had heard praises for this author but I couldn't remember what was the book review I stumbled upon, so yours officially put Abigail on my TBR, which I'm planning to read sooner than later. Funnily enough, I was also going to pick up Jane Eyre in the next months, so that sounds like the perfect parallel read. Thank you for putting it on my radar, I love historical fiction and have been wanting to discover more foreign female authors. I'm hoping to love Magda as you did as it sounds right up my alley! ☺️👌
Yaaaaaay!!! Super excited for you to read both this and Jane Eyre. Reading them together sounds perfect 😍.
I love these nyrb editions. I need to read jane eyre!! I was thinking about how your review reminded me of My Brilliant Friend and then you said it! I will add this to the tbr--I hadn't heard of it until your review
NYRB can take all my money 🤣
Whaaaaat you haven’t read Jane Eyre?! You are in for a wild ride!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m jealous you’ll get to experience it for the first time!
I recently finished Brilliant Friend. SO GOOD!
I just went to put a hold on it at the library!
🥰
Yaaaay! I think you’ll love it! ❤️
Definitely been interestrd in trying all of NYRB's Magda Szabos.
Yes!! Me too! 🙌🏼
Ok! My library has it so I'll request it in January 😂 (I'm book until then)
Yaaaas 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I was thinking of reading The Fawn, or The Door by her, but maybe I'll read Abigail now. There is a Canadian author of Hungarian descend who wrote Siege 13. One of the short stories is the best short story about the War and the years of its aftermath that I've ever read.
Oh wooooow! I’ll have to look into that!
@@alanaestelle2076 Someone said The Door totally changed her whole perspective on life
@@martasoltys9091 😮
Volume is a little low 😢
Oh no! Sorry about that! Thanks for the feedback! I’ll turn up my mic next time I record.
