Thanks for taking the time to explain even the smallest details. I’m glad I chose to watch this video. I can now attempt to install myself, instead of waiting for someone else to do it.
You’re welcome, good luck
I kept TELLING the guys I work with that simply SCORING it was doing NOTHING. That rubber trim would always fight back and pull back and NEVER give the adhesive enough time to dry and grab. Their suggestion was "use the tape to hold it"...
😐😑*sigh*
THANK YOU for proving that the "lesser experienced girl" 😏 on the team wasn't out of her little mind for making suggestions similar to your ideas! 💪🏼🤙🏼
😀👍
You arent cutting it properly enough, when it flexes back up i remove more until its a perfect 90 degree
I’ve done cove base a handful of times now for this company and no one here knew how to do inside corners. Thank you! Extremely helpful
After more than 30 years in the business I'll tell you one of my best dirty tricks. When using electric staplers on dark carpet ( base or stairs) . I used to black out the back of the clip of staples with a sharply before putting them in stapler. If the stay silver they shine like stars at night on dark carpet.
Thank you for this. I'm doing a small home project, and I wasn't sure how to handle the corners that I have to wrap the vinyl molding around. Your very detailed instructions are extremely helpful (that hot glue temporary hold is ingenious - I never would have thought of that). You gave me the confidence to know I can come out the other side with a job that will actually look good.
ive used the grooving tool Crain 532 Topset Cove Base Gouge on my outside corners for about 25 years works perfect every time... i then fold them 180 and hit them with a heat gun, then let them cool, usually hold a tight 90 then glue of your choice ... hot, contact , super, double sided tape
Did a lot of Cove base in 95-97, my uncle gave me a gouge tool that could be adjusted for depth, used pencil to mark corner then ran the gouge tool down pencil line, pre-bent base, we also used hot melt glue, I’ve done it the way you showed here and many times went through face, which was fine using 4’ pieces but when it was a 100’ roll, not good (I still have that gouge, sharpened it a couple times) thanks for the time and effort you put into your videos, totally appreciated
Solid demonstration. Easy to follow steps, clear instructions and thorough details. Super helpful- Much appreciated
Peter Booth 👍
Thanks for this great instructional video. I have 200 feet of cove base to install as a beginner and there are about 10 corners on the walls, plus 4 square pillars to wrap. After watching your video, I feel confident that I can do an excellent job. I really appreciate the hot glue tip. Thanks for your help, Southern Boy! From a northern Canadian girl!
Jocelyn M Brooks Awesome, thank you, and I’m sure you will do great. I’m really glad it was helpful
Dude nice video! I've been watching all sorts of other "experts" on how to do it but you showed real actual expertise at your craft. Thanks for helping my project along!
elementboy212 You’re welcome, good luck
Makes total sense. I've been at flooring for 5 years only and I've never done this before, I'll do it tomorrow and with this technique I feel ready for the job. I didn't know how to do the corner cut with a knife, now I know. Thanks!
Edgar Castaneda Awesome, good luck buddy
Best outside corner video I've seen. Thank you, appreciate it.
deemoshi You’re welcome and thank you for watching
Thanks! I started on a wall doing it all wrong, and now I know how. Thanks for the video, great explanation.
Awesome 👏
Excellent tip ! Thanks for sharing !
That's the best way I've found..been doing base for awhile, an dude whose mentioned using heat..works great also but only time I use it is when u get those tiny wrappes like half inch..always found they never stick unless u get handy torch melt it down an cold shock it..an it stays that form..great video man..always enjoy watching your vids..must of both had the same teachers..but I've found few things you have done diff that works better,an I'm sure I could show u couple things that work better also..cheers..
Jeremy Gibson thank you sir, if I see a corner coming up I will make sure that my corner does not fall with just a half inch wrap and if it does I will work that out into the next inside corner, I won’t have just a Half inch wrap, just because they are problematic to get to stick , thank you for your feedback, I enjoy hearing other people’s views
You sir are a master! Glad to know there are still people who take pride in their work AND are willing to help others. God bless!
Thank you
Said to the white guy…. 😂 if he was brown or black you would be complaining about how long it’s taking him😂😂😂🖕🏽
Dope video bro appreciate it helped me out a lot definitely subscribed
Currently working on a school building, this helped a lot!
Figured out how to bend & mitre cut for the tiny tight corner! Looks great w/tile & Pergo! Thanks for the help ...
Ed McD 👍
I'm so thankful for your video! Very helpful. Thank you! ❤
Great video. Thanks for taking it step by step on doing outside corners with the cove base.
Thank you sir, I’m glad you enjoyed it
Professional job. I've seen the pam glue gun used on cove base that I've replaced numerous times. That said, guy in vid knows what he can get away with. I've never used hot glue for this...instead I always run sort of a thick bead straight up the corner, stopping 3/4 the way up, push it to the wall, and then massage the excess up if needed, like a reservoir. Works sooo good
😀👍
I was in the trade for 10 years ,got out of it to be a rigger for the past 5 years but I'm going back in .....I've watched all your videos as of refresher !!! Your very skilled , thanks all the way from Alberta Canada
Jeffrey Molinelli Man it’s awesome, welcome back and thank you for the compliment
He is awsome
Thanks! Very helpful!
Great job, thank you dor the idea
Excellent. Thanks.
Great video man, keep up the good work.
I’ve seen alot of helpers ruin alot of covebase using the knife, using gouge is a time and material saving technique. And the hot glue is the best method for outside corners
Yup. Works. Use a glue gun with a high volume fast output so you have time to install before it starts to cool.
Great video!👍
Excellent advice. Thank you.
Your welcome
Wow, great video.
Great video, thanks for sharing. Exactly what I was looking for.
Susan Sumner 😁👍
Thank you. Exactly what I was looking for.
doodle doo awesome, you’re welcome
Thank you so much for your tips and tricks. The hot glue gun was a surprise but whatever it takes to make it look good. Glad you mentioned it’s just to help, not to hold. Great video!

Another great tip.
Where can I find your 3 spout caulking attachment ? Thanks for the video !
Great advise.Thank you
Rocky Blankenship You welcome
thank you! Very well explained
You’re welcome, thank you
very nice, I haven't met anyone that like coving, lol, I despise it. I was a boilermaker for 25 years before I did flooring and when using a metal break for fabricating when you make a bend you mark it 1/2 the thickness of the material away, so thats how I always think about it as you was trying to display on the camera. A lot of times in a live office or something I have to take all my measurements and prep my base in another area so I been known to maybe forget what side I meant to cut on, lol. I have used a heat gun to soften the material, and on occasions used the hot glue gun, and even clamps as Thermal 15 said, but have yet to try the torch and water, but have often thought on trying it. I have used preformed corners before, sounds good, but once was enough for me, wont use those again, you know how corners are just about like snow flakes, they are all just a little different and a perfect factory preformed 90 just looks bad. Great job as always.
Titan_363 I agree with you on the premade corners, I don’t like them either
Thank you Sr, great video!!👍🏽
JJC You’re welcome
Good video- about like most of us were taught when starting out- the traditional starting point. After doing a few miles of this, I developed a technique of just marking the back of the base, get a good tight fold at that line and cut the line out with one stroke of the knife (As Kyle said- avoid cutting the very top and very bottom) you'll get a feel for the depth very quickly. We used a 4" base knife with the top and bottom tooth cut off and spreading glue on the walls gives much better adhesion and eliminates movement- also important to pull the toe out while pushing down to keep the toe contour matching the straight runs.
L Sube Thank you
Exactly I was taught his way when I first started I just score it and get a lose fold and cut the score carefully without ripping through the front
A outside corner takes me about 2 minutes
Thank you
Very interesting method! I’m a floorlayer from the UK and what you call cove base we call Sit On skirting, we also use Set In which has a larger foot that gets welded to your vinyl/linoleum. I don’t usually wrap my corners with sit on, I find the foot becomes tight and I don’t like the way it looks. So instead of scoring the back I’d cut down with my blade angled so it sticks out maybe 2 or 3mm. Use scribes to mark the other side furthest from you, and then trim to the piece you’ve already cut
Joe Singleton sounds interesting
I do exactly the same. That way you have a decent looking mitre at the foot I also use f60 contact adhesive.
Very nice! Thank you!
Samuel Minaya Thank you and I hope it helped
Nice job 👍🏼
Thank you
My man! Just what i needed.
😀👍awesome
Great video, thanks. But doesn't the cove at the bottom remain vertical when you bend it around the corner like that?
AWESOME TIP!!!!!!!!
Glad you liked it
I love that southern accent! 😍
😀👍

j2681 Thank you sir

Thanks for for sharing your knowledge and experience on installing a vinyl corner here on UA-cam. Fo’ real !
I like those 2- 45* angle back cuts and the hot glue to hold it in place.
Menards Powergrab adhesive just wouldn’t set up fast enough.
Instant Subscriber because you helped me out too
Awesome thank you
Great work
James Daye Thank you sir
Thank you, and God bless you
Ruben Miguel thank you for that
Man those corners look great. I. Still into perfection like u fella

Good video man!! Do you charge per foot? What do think about the self stick?
Thanks 👍🏼
😀👍
Nice job. I just did some today. I have to get a cool gun for glue like that. Noice.
Thanks! 👍

The elevator has just gone up in figuring out why the gaps between the drywall & floor do not need to filled! Its a sealed product! The girls & myself are now leaving for Lowe's (arrgh!), then we'll be back to watch your tutorial again & again till we're ready to try again. BTW, I'm using a chisel to skim moulding for the corners - no upper body strength & an expensive manicure. Thanks!
Ed McD 😲 I wish you luck
I've got a couple of 3/4" bullnose corners. Do I just wrap them around the corner? Or do I need to hot glue them??.
I would hot glue them just to be safe
Hi, I'm installing base in my garage on new painted walls. The paint is semigloss enamel. Do I need to prep it before applying my base?. I'm using Mapei ECO 575
No sir it will stick fine
I always tell the new guys to mark the edge at the corner, and then cut the gap a little short of the width of the base further in the direction you're working. In other words, don't cut the corner like a miter (right at the corner); it should be at the beginning of the new wall (almost like a return). Picture marking the edge with a tiny scribe, and the cut goes between the lines rather than at the corner line. Hinge the base around the corner like two butt joints as opposed to having the cut sit at the 45. Otherwise your corners will not stay tight and will pull apart from the straight pieces on both walls.
Also, for about $7, you can get a cove base gouge that takes a lot of the trial and error out of the knife work if you don't have the touch yet! For $3, you can get a spreader nozzle for the adhesive that helps too.
I don't know if any of that makes sense in writing, but it sure helps reduce the problems on site!
Yep makes perfect sense, thank you buddy
@@FloorsbySouthernboys We are an often times underappreciated and underpaid trade, my friend!
Nice of you to take the time to show a few tricks and help some folks out. ...and not show the wrong way! 😁
Almost 12 hours later the moulding is still holding up nicely in the tiny bathroom I did myself w/the dogs watching from inside the bathtub. Roberts base cove adhesive is waterproof, however, for added protection I smoothed more adhesive on both top & bottom edges of moulding for a tight seal to the floor & wall to prevent mold & mildew. Before doing so, I went ahead w/spraying expandable insulation foam in the 1" gaps between the floor & drywall to bond with. In addition, the girls & I became absolutely convinced the gaps needed to be filled to prevent hostile enemies from invading while showering. We believe critters have unknown abilities such as crawling out to open shower doors. The only issue I still have is whether to cut or bend moulding for a 1/2" x 1 1/2" corner between the bathroom door & linen closet door. Any suggestions?
Ed McD It always looks better if you can bend it
Use a wet rag to spread the glue, it will make your life easier.
A little advise from Hp Carpet services in Anchorage AK
Thank you 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

thanks dude

Use a wet rag to spread the glue, it will make your life easier, just a little advice OK? Complements of HP CARPET SVS on Anchorage Alaska and keep up the good work.👍🏼
Today we laid 5 pieces of vinyl. Tomorrow I'm supposed to go by myself and lay the cove base by myself. I'm going to try and mimic this video!! Thanks for making it! Any tips on inside corners? I'm a beginner and need all the help i can get!!!
ColoradoAwesomeSauce What did you found my other video where at Duke of base so that’s pretty much all I can do is just to have you watch that has that pretty much explains everything, just don’t doubt yourself and have confidence in what you’re doing, you will be just fine
Hot melt does work indeed. I prefer contact cement , but to each their own ! Good vid. Cove base looks as good as the walls behind it;)
Dusty Stinson Thank you and true that about the walls
What do u think of the pam gun for smoothedge on concrete ? Or pinned track naplock etc?
Dusty Stinson I have had to let loose multiple times, anytime it’s in a place where the sun can shine on the tax strip it warms the glue up and it lets loose , That’s why I always back it up With jet tech
I've found same thing . Some substrates seem to accept it better for sure . The sun thing is a great point. If I can And I have time I'll use roberts rb40 and wait till next day
Dusty Stinson I hear you, as long as I’ve been using jet tac I have only had it fail me once And it was my fault for not cleaning the floor properly
I us a utility knife a torch and super glue ,when you bend the corner it does not show a line on the corner and push down on the toe around the corner been doing 20 years 😎👍🇺🇸
Do you charge for per corner, inside corners? What do you think 1900lf 300 inside outside corner would take to install with 2 people?
Donnie Ingram No I don’t charge for each corner, just a flat rate at $.65 a foot, that amount would probably take two or three days with two people that totally depends on the skill set
How much is a good price to charge for rubber base? Obviously, my market is a different market than the south but ball park idea helps.
Anywhere between $.65 and a dollar Per foot
