My assessment of the album couldn’t be more different than you guys. I was expecting it to be mediocre, but I actually came out surprised with how solid it was. Ryan Neff from Miss May I did the clean vocals on this album, and I think he did it pretty solidly (but that’s probably because I am much more of a Miss May I fan nowadays). I have gotten used to the overproduction of modern metalcore with bands like Currents and Invent Animate and stuff like that, so the production didn’t really bother me as much. I like the slightly symphonic twist on the typical As I Lay Dying sound. Notice how I didn’t say anything about Tim yet. Well… I’m done giving that guy second chances, and moving forward, I’m pretty sure As I Lay Dying is gonna become one of those bands that I listen to mainly for the other members’ talents, similar to how I approach listening to the pop-metalcore band Issues.
I just listened to it. I think they did an amazing job and the album crushes. The sonics are amazing. The clean vocal melodies are really fucking good. It has a great low end and the guitars cut through the mix really well. It sounds super modern. Maybe I don’t know shit though.
I too loved this band during those earlier albums. I did meet Tim and got a pic with him back In like 2006, he looked much much different back then haha
People bitching about rock and metal not being "dangerous" anymore and yet they bitch about people like Tim. Separate art from artist like it was used to be until this woke virus started castrating all of us. Not into metal core , cleans kills it for me immediatelly. There's difference between man singing proper cleans and man singing like a pu**y. But, that song with Alex and CG guy is great. Would be great colab EP at least. I hoped they ditched cleans on whole album but nah. Sucks, ut has potential. I say keep roid raging and make more brutal ADM albums with no cleans at all !
Oceans Between Us and The Powerless Rise are actually some of my favorite metalcore albums, but that's a pretty short list as it is. These guys have been cooked for a while. Side note, PLEASE tell me you guys are gonna discuss the new Veilburner? That's one of the craziest albums I've heard this year, and it's been a stacked year for wild releases.
I thank your almost constant advertising for Suffocation, over the past month, I bought two shirts, Pierced From Within, and their most recent album on cassette, and now they're one of my favorite bands, yes I just now got into them. And that was a funny yet accurate breakdown of why Timmy Tim's "roid rage" defense was hilariously bone-headed. What a moron.
Im honestly suprised you guys reviewed this one, and like the both of you I too jamned Shadows are Security, Frail World Collapse, and Oceans are between us, and say what you want about Tim but the song " Nothing Left" absolutely rips and the opening guitar rift still makes me want to break something. That being said this album was generic sounding as hell, and at times i thought the drums were actually fake, I appreciate what the band did for Metsl, but they need to not pull a Mike Tyson and hang those gloves up for good.
For whatever it's worth. I have liked as I lay dying. It got me into the heavier side of music. But this album didn't grab me at all. Nothing stood out. I listen to bands for the music. People look through eyes different than mine. That all set aside. It just didn't grab me at all. It was bland and run of the mill. So this won't be going back to it. Plus I sure miss the going into record stores and finding the hidden gem. I am old enough to remember before internet. I found bands through the thank you lists in the cassette liner notes lmao.
I gave the new album a few listens and honestly, I was expecting more from it. It’s not a bad album, it’s decent. The first few singles were better. Ryan’s vocals were kinda off
Another great review guys, still laughing at hired guns statement....Another band that is only of interest for morbid curiosity, for me it is yet another example of bands thinking that they are relevant even when the genre or sub-genre has long since died around them, at this point only the strong still entertain and really that might only be Killswitch, with a few other noteworthy bands.
It really is a shame what happened to As I Lay Dying the past decade. At one point I’d argue they were one of the best metalcore bands around. I’ll give this a listen, but not expecting too much.
You know a album is bad when Nick and Jon rate it worst than the newest Linkin Park album 😂. But for real; I honestly enjoyed this review for the LOLs and roast for Tim Lambesis. I honestly bought the new one yesterday because I haven't thought or listened to As I Lay Dying for a while. All the drama and Tim being a dick turned me off from AILD. I was curious because I wanted to know what they sound like nowadays. The only As I Lay Dying album I got is 2012's Awakened. Well, I'll admit; I thought the album was decent. But the criticism you guys mentioned is definitely apparent.
More like As Gas Lay Lighting. But for real, I genuinely love this band’s music. Hot take: I’d consider them to be more melodic death metal as opposed to metalcore, especially their early albums. (fight me) Listening to Shaped By Fire(d) right now. These riffs hit, man!
Necrotic Nick- I used to be a big fan all the way through An Ocean Between Us and even the 2 after that I thought were decent but their sound (and Tim being a giant piece of shit) hasn't aged well. I wasn't a big fan of Shaped by Fire (well played there lol) and honestly I'm less of a fan of this one.
@ fair enough. Definitely an “in flames” situation musically. I personally loved Shaped By Fire and I really enjoyed this one but yeah I ain’t buying any merch from them like ever 😂
Goddamn, when willt he controversy stop surrounding this band? I did enjoy their 2019 return, Shaped by Fire, overall, at least from what I've heard. Their first albums, most certainly Shadows Are Security, are seminal works in the melodic metalcore genre. But Tim Lambesis... I don't know, man. I really don't know what's going on and I'm not one to judge, but something is really, REALLY amiss about him. Narcissism 101.
On a side note, one metalcore album that did NOT SUCK this year is Knocked Loose's You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To. I'll take that, Kittie's new record and anything from Make Them Suffer over this new As I Lay Dying album any day of the week.
Man, metalcore is so done. I was never a big fan of this particular style of it to begin with, but its pretty bad these days. Metallic Hardcore on the other hand is awesome. A lot of great bands. Edit: I should add that with Metallic Hardcore i specially mean hardcore bands with metal influence. Like Gulch or Drain. Or a lot of the 90s hardcore even. I like the distinction between that and actual metalcore
I listened to this album in the gym earlier, and honestly it kinda kicks ass. Sucks the band left though. Personally, I think As I Lay Dying are easily one of if not the best melodic metalcore band and an An Ocean Between Us is one of the greatest metalcore albums of all time. I get why they get clowned on for the controversy, but their music legacy is indeed great! Not their best album, but still solid
I was a massive AILD fan back in the 2010's. I still jam their early stuff, but man, after everything that's happened to this band for the past +10 years, it wasnt the same, and Tim not closing the doors for the band just says that he has lost himself and can't think of another way to make money... #anotheronebitsthedust
Necrotic Nick- Same here, man. Those first 4 albums I honestly still enjoy despite how much Tim's bullshit tried to ruin that. After that... well... it's kinda hard to like this band with the quality of music dropping and Tim still being thoroughly unlikeable as fuck.
All of these bands would disagree... Thy Catafalque Djevel The Foreshadowing Slaughter The Giant Tribulation Mitochondrion Cryptic Brood Neon Nightmare Suidakra Paysage d'Hiver Yoth Iria 1000mods Veilburner Ershetu Nachtmystium And we're only halfway through the month.
@ that Passage is pretty cool. Mitochondrion. Dont know if goth and metal is my thing yet, Tribulation. And Thy Catafalque is in my playlist. I hope to listen to every other band on the list by the end of the day and much much appreciated. Ain’t always easy to sort through EVERYTHING being released. And believe me I certainly believed I was trying?! 🤔 🤨 🧐
Honestly really disapointed to see metal reviewers thinking that the personal lives of the artist has anything to do with a review. I'm not interested in your morals or lack of thereof. Just review the damn album... fuck. (And there are a few details of the attempted soliciting to commit murder that you are missing but i aint typing it out right now). And if ur morals are so high you better not list3n to burzum or any of the black metal from that era. All that to say. I agree this is their weakest album to date.... However even as a weak AILD is better than alot of shit. This is a junk food metal for me. Gonna rip this in the gym. 6.5 out of 10. Strength to survive is a weak/worst of their song 100%... And the clean vocalist is deff pretty meh
Yeah I like an ocean between us and shadows of security but but oh well I don't know what this guy thinks she's doing but he sucks I mean I'll check out the new album but that doesn't mean I'm going to going to rotate it on my phone everyday but that's it
The weeks of Nick edging us with AILD jokes finally gets the big payoff. Can’t wait to hear them all 😂 You guys checking out the new Veilburner? Cool album
Album is a dud. Just couldn’t get into it. May be time for Tim to hang ‘em up. Those early AILD records from the 2000s will always hold a special place with me. But I would think it’s time for Tim to move on with something else.
In two weeks, I will be joining Live Listen Erased via Zoom along with JC Rock and Metal Reviews for an episode of the former's series "Controversial Artists: Where Do You Draw the Line". The list of artists will have Tim Lambesis in terms of discussion.
Necrotic Nick- Not all of it. There's been some some metalcore or "metallic hardcore" in recent years. Some of the old guard though (this one especially) haven't aged well.
Not sure if you had this phenomenon where you grew up, but we just called metallic hardcore - hardcore. Metalcore used to mean KSE/AILD but now it means Octanecore and that particular pocket of heavy music is beyond stale currently.
Another band I don’t listen to. Like the last video. I’ll stick with the new Mammoth Grinder and Scour single that was released. Thanks for doing other stuff out of your comfort zone. I just do not listen to metal core music.
As I Lay Dying? More like I Am Dead amirite?
I’m just here for the inevitable Tim Lambesis jokes to be honest
I'm high but AILD metal.archives current band picture is hilarious
Tbh with all the drama and how toxic Tim is allegedly, I think it’s pretty remarkable that a new album was actually recorded lol
@@joerazz91 And released! There was a part of me that thought that Napalm Records would scrap the album release entirely.
@ Yeah I think this is an accomplishment! 😁
ah sweet, new release by As My Band Keeps Dying
My assessment of the album couldn’t be more different than you guys. I was expecting it to be mediocre, but I actually came out surprised with how solid it was. 100% agree. Sometimes I think people review this album with the 'situation' in mind rather than judging the music on it's own merits cause it's trendy
I too loved this band during those earlier albums. I did meet Tim and got a pic with him back In like 2006, he looked much much different back then haha
Tim Lambreastis just needs to retire at this point. I don't plan to listen to this after how bad the last Austrian Death Machine was.
People bitching about rock and metal not being "dangerous" anymore and yet they bitch about people like Tim. Separate art from artist like it was used to be until this woke virus started castrating all of us.

Tim claims he's changed as a person but has Alex Terrible, who is a borderline fascist, on his record. How delusional
Unearth was and is the best metal core band period. They still ripping till this day
100% agree. Along with Zao. Still going strong
It's Converge for me. But Knocked Loose, Zao, August Burns Red also very strong.
@@ApostlePaulofTarsuscastrated mickey mouse loose is Terribad
Plus if I heard right. Ken susi was a member but didn't write anything on this album. I don't even know if he recorded anything on it.

I'm a fan of their early stuff, but I could care less about As My Roid Brain Is Frying's new offering.
