Two gold DeLoreans were sold as part of a marketing campaign with American Express. They were hoping to sell 100 cars. One is in the National Automotive Museum in Reno, NV and the other is at the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, CA. A third gold car was later built with spare parts. That one is owned by a private party. Two owners had their cars plated.

Keep in mind The metal (Stainless Steel) they used was 5x more expensive than the metals at its time :D

...except it isn't true. You need 11" to fully open the door. If you park that close with standard doors, then you're not getting out.
