He played a love rival in "General and I". And I couldn't even recognize him. Even his sweet talks are different from those with Angelababy. I have a perception that Chinese top actors always impose their personality in their character so no matter how different characters they play, they form a type. I just watch the type of actor I enjoy or don't make me feel too annoyed and I don't expect too much from them. But this guy blew my mind with his superb and distinguished acting! He looked so different because he captured the essence of his character so well.
Why Chen Wende is a standard? Not because he risked his life again and again for her, but rather because he confided everything with her even when they were just a passerby.

Although this happend all the time in old days and still do in our time, still it doesn’t make it right. We shouldn’t call it love bc it is not. There is and was not never anything romantic about a crisp and fresh girl satisfying an old wrinkled man to survive.
I want my favorite actress to watch this drama and learn how to act both scared and brave at the same time!😅 That story of kunning palace was kinda intriguing but the fierce ML looked like pouting when he was supposedly intimidating and FL looked fierce when she was supposed to be scared to death. 🤣 I kept laughing so hard that couldn't enjoy the drama, let alone finish it. Yet I love those two amateur actors. 😅 they simply couldn't surpass their strong personality and get into the character. Not that I expect much from today's Chinese toppers.

Overall, this is an interesting drama, have seen all episodes on Viki. The only thing is that the SFL become extremely annoying after the first several episodes. The role is really a dumb one after awhile, the actor is always so topnotch in other dramas so it was weird to see her in a role that was really below her acting abilities. She was really miscast in this drama.
