I miss Mallory on the USWNT. She was peaking and quite unstoppable. I rewatched her play in FIFA 2019 World Cup and its like she is a much better player now...faster, stronger and more dynamic. It's really sad she won't be at the WC this year. But. I will look forward to seeing her in the Paris Olympics next summer 2024 and LA Olympics in 2028.

Both she and Sophia Smith have been on FIRE! I thought, for sure, with the two of them up front, the USWNT would be unstoppable.
However, with Mal out, I'm not so sure.
I mean, Wales held them to only a 2-0 win. That's not good.

Swanson was knocked out in that collision with the Irish goalie. She should have been placed on concussion protocol instead of letting her back in the game, it's just a friendly game. She was not 100% after that hit.
Maybe that knock contributed to her wobbly knees that resulted in a serious injury. I blame the coaching staff for that negligent decision. The media was afraid to even touch that issue now.

Agree. She probably insisted to continue playing (players never want to be substituted) but the final decision should have been called by the coach. Big mistake!

@@TheNotoriousNemo Exactly and if you look at the moment she was off the field after the collision with the goalie there was a very awkward non-communication with her and Vlatko. They have to take concussion protocol more seriously because it can really effect your ability to move in a healthy manner.

You are right, that collusion with the Irish goal keeper contributed to the serious injury. If you watch Mallory Swanson during the match after the collusion she was not comfortable before the serious knees injury. The coaching crew wasn't paying attention to her.

During the 2019 Cup I felt Mallory was criminally underutilized by the coaching staff, but there was some consolation in knowing her time would come. For her to miss THIS cup too sucks even worse. I look forward to seeing her climb back up to the TOP.

We will miss Mallory pugh Swanson in this women's world cup. The coaching crew should have substitute her after the collusion with the Irish goalkeeper earlier on, that's a tactical mistake.

Why she continued playing after the first very nasty foul? She probably insisted to continue playing (players never want to be substituted) but the final decision should have been called by the coach. Big mistake!

Ofc she wanted to play. The coach should have taken her out, it's 75% coaches fault, and partly hers ofc.

100% the responsibility of the coach and the medical staff to look after the well being of the players. They dropped the ball on this situation.

Not familiar with this site. Interviewer off tone with their subject - Mallory ends question explaining her grief process and interviewer responds with "That's funny." A bit cringey. Mallory's body language sadly was indicating distress. Lack of eye contact, strained smiles, monotone. Advise trying harder to match your subject's emotional level.

Thompson is fine, she’s a bit raw as seen when playing against Wales, but it’s not like she’s a starter, it’s Rodman that replaced Swanson as a starter. The most likely starting 3 after Swanson & Macario being injured is Smith-Morgan-Rodman, with Williams maybe being in there. Rapinoe & Thompson are just super subs. Also who would u replace Thompson with? The USA don’t really have another great option, Hatch had no impact, Press isn’t the same player & Heath is basically retired at this point.
