Precisely, when the fish takes the bait and it's in the fish's mouth, setting the hook pulls the weight which hits the fish, outside of the fish's mouth to be exact so....??
Awesome setup! Almost like a modified free rig concept. I can see wacky worm but also bellows gills and other water resisting plastics floating down with same method. Ready to get down the road to OH Ivie and throw it around channel drops.
Great video! Used this in the summer fishing turbulent water. Just leting it sit ther and the bait just "floping around" and the perch just vent stright into the stream and snatched it. But I explaned it more as a reversed free-rig. :P
That's what I've been waiting to see. Nice set up. Great explanation and technique on the hook set definitely will be giving it a workout. Thanks again Matt
Interesting video. Given your explanation, it sounds like an effective technique in deep water. I'm looking forward to giving it a try in a deep, clear lake in northern Wisconsin this summer. Thank you, and keep up the good work.
Great video Matt and something I would love to see you use once we have open water again. Nothing like seeing the lure and presentation in action after your detailed explanation. Thank you for sharing and I will try and use this summer.
That's a cool trick. I kinda want to try that but with a regular jig head and soft plastic instead of a weight. A ned rig might work for you. I would end up catching some flounder on the wacky worm and more on the jig. We use some tandem rigs and they can be great. Now I have a new variation to play with. Thanks.
I’m definitely going to try this. I think your new core wacky hook should work for this technique. I suspect I could use a tight bopper stop in place of the barrel swivel to help protect the rod tip guide and adjust the fall length. Will core be releasing a wire weedless tush hook? Also very interested in a weedless finesse swim bait hook without the skirt to fish various soft plastics even more subtle. It kills me to cut off such a beautiful skirt to make a naked swim bait hook without.
Good video, thanks for the tip. I'm wondering if it would have worked for a situation we faced last fall. We were fishing Rainy lake in mid September. We had thought the fish would have started coming up shallow by then getting ready for winter. That wasn't the case. Our sonar showed them suspended in 30 to 45 foot of water. This was over much deeper water in the 70 + feet range, I'm wondering if this would have worked in that situation and if it would have, how would we fish it given that depth of water from where the fish were suspended.
Matt, great stuff! I'm thinking a free rig might enable the worm to slowly sink to depth, but it might take a while - this rig quickky gets it down to 4' from full depth. Nice!
Im a fan of yours and of core tackle. Id rather stick a jig hook through my thumb than fish a wacky rig. But im going to give this a shot in the dog days of summer
Would be easier for us to understand if you used a diagram and had a pointer. This ""double barrel rig" works good for ice fishing too. Al Lindner had this in his magazine years ago.
You said it's a simple technique. It's better than simple, it's brilliant on your part! Well done Matt! 5 stars!
give it a try and thank me later!
That is a pretty sweet set up, great job thinking outside the box..
give it a try!
Going to try sometime, you are right nobody does this in my area!
im the only one that i know thats ever mentioned it
If your bait is 3-4’ off the bottom and you get a bite seems like you have no leverage for a hook set until that hook bottoms out on the weight again?

Brilliant! I'm definitely going to try this when my season starts!
You’re going to love it!
Hey hey, I absolutely love that one and it’s new to me. I usually have to count it down. Thanks Matt😁👍💯
My pleasure!
I love these sneaky little mods. Thanks for sharing these. Hard to give away secrets. Appreciate it every time!
It’s kinda like a reverse free rig. Very interesting
👍
kinda
That's what I've been waiting to see. Nice set up. Great explanation and technique on the hook set definitely will be giving it a workout. Thanks again Matt
its a great presentation
I remember you talking about this. Think I'll have to give it a try. Thanks. 👍👍👍
go for it

Let me know how it goes!
Love it. I've never seen this one. Definitely going to try this. Thank you Matt
came from my crazy brain!
So the swivel makes it different than a free rig?
The free rig has the weight free sliding not the bait
the weight and the bait are reverse. its different than the free rig
Totally missed that. I fish a wacky rigged bait on a free rig all the tme. Ill have to give this a try.
Great tip Matt 👍
thanks!

ive done a video with it before
Always good to see a new video from you too. 😜
This could be a game changer Matt thanks for showing definitely going to try that out
good luck!
That is sooooo, cool !!! Can't wait to use it. I have to wait for the ICE to MELT!
im sick of winter

That sounds like a great idea!
Excellent presentation seminar.
thanks!
What a great idea! I already know where I'm going to try this in the spring :)
good luck!
Great video! But an unrelated question, where can i get a Yamaha hoodie like that? I can’t find it on Yamaha’s website
i think its just a pro staff item

Glad you liked it!
That's a good tip. Thanks.
You bet!
Good stuff!
thanks!
Awesome, Matt! Have you ever tried replacing the swivel with a couple of bobber stops?
yep it will work as well but the bobber stops slide with usage

It does!
Thanks Matt
you bet
Matt, Any word on the new Core Tackle release yet?
some new things coming very soon!
You are a genius, thank you.
You’re welcome!
I think I know a place where a 3” senko is going to see some action.
try it!
Holy sh$” this is the reverse free rig!! Very cool
haha i guess so
Great show today. Have you seen the Jackyll yammy 500 wacky worm Kyoya Fajita designed? Looks awesome!!!
i have not ill check it out
@MattStefanFishing I seen a video and the fall of the bait looks unreal!
Im a fan of yours and of core tackle. Id rather stick a jig hook through my thumb than fish a wacky rig. But im going to give this a shot in the dog days of summer

This is the good stuff.
yes it is!
I like it whenever you give up your Juice. lol
haha
Isn’t this a variation of the free rig ?
Why are you using a swivel instead of a bobber stop? It seems like the swivel would add unnecessary weight.
bobber stop will slip
👍👍👍👍👍
thanks for watching
Dope
it is!
🍺👍🤠.
thanks for watching!
