  • COMEDOR (name for conceptual purposes only)
This is just a conceptual design only, not an actual project.
The project is a food hall inspired by the site's main agricultural product - the coconut. The design pays homage to one of the most underrated tree in the country. It boasts of the elegance, beauty and importance of the coconut not just in the construction industry but also in the lives of every Filipino.
The façade is covered with "lukay" inspired louvres to act as a shade that helps the building fight heat gain. Inside the building are columns that resemble a coconut tree which add to the feeling of dining under the shade of a coconut plantation. Minute details such as the coco leaf pattern were used in floor, wall and ceiling patterns as well as in the furniture.
This project may not be built (or maybe it will) but the act of knowing and investigating about the life of a coconut is already a worthwhile experience giving the design team a sense of pride living in a country wherein the tree of life abundantly exist.
