I already said it on the old edit, but Cheesecake is my favourite Robot in the Ant weightclass, I am already hyped to see what you came up with for the 3 pounds. Great Video and goodluck!
Alex was a class act at this tournament and even took the time to take photos with my son who adores cheesecake and gave him a sticker. It was awesome seeing cheesecake dominate live!
I love the way you edit your videos. Commentary during and after the fights really helps make us make sense of things and stay engaged. It's a great format!
As i said for the old edit, Cheesecake is becoming more like the Tombstone of antweights. And again, The Beetleweights are filled with vert drum spinners. So, be innovative and effective with your additions and upgrades.
Honestly i love watching your tournaments they are great fun and i like how you explain what happened and changes you make and stuff honestly you deserve many more subscribers this is awesome stuff
I love the driver of Dobby kept saying that they wanted the fight in the finals, "I want it!" "cmon hit me!" gotta love being down but having the fight in you to want to go down swinging
Grinding a little recess into the shaft where the set screw sits will help to prevent that drive issue reoccurring. It means the set screw has to back out that little bit further before fully losing connection.
I love the content you upload its opened my eyes to a whole new world of mini robot warfare and of course I'm routing for cheesecake 🏆🥇 its great seeing the little guy do well
Cheesecake is my favourite robot. I’ve really enjoyed watching his culinary journey eating wheels walls and more. Great editing and design work, I can’t wait to see what you build next.
This is what I come home to watch UA-cam for! Every thing about these are great and I’m excited for the beetle hoping you bring it to June NHRL so I can met you again! And for the beetle you should have cheesecake as the mini bot.
Congrads with your massive success with cheesecake! And thanks for sharing your journey with us. Looking forward to following you on your beetle weight journey:)
I have loved watching Cheesecake evolve from the first incarnation with flaws and weak spots into a mature design that can be customized to fight different types of opponents.
Horivertzical is such a cool design, you took out both wheels and it was still coming at you just by being able to angle their disc! It's like they had a reaction wheel as much as a weapon. Idk what the wall was made of but great performance.
Great work. You can really see your driving improve. Especially on that one against the vertical/horizontal spinner when you lost half your drive, but you maintained impressive control and lined up some really great shots. Now that it seems like your design is pretty much locked in, you'll only keep getting better as your skills continue to sharpen
Cheesecake really is operating right on the edge of what is possible, but it's been a very fun journey to get here! The little things really do add up, and that extra bit of margin is sometimes all that saves me.
gosh, I dream to be able to participate in those types of tournaments but I searched everywhere on the net but I cant find anything in my country which is belgium, or maybe am just not using the right words
I found myself yelling “EAT HIS WHEELS CHEESCAKE” all throughout this video😂 You’ve designed a killer robot! I can’t wait to see what kind of robot will be tearing up the beetle weight division next. (Is the new bot going to be desert themed as well??)
Just rewatched this video and seeing the slippery(?) movement I got an idea: What if you integrated an IMU into Cheesecake and basically combined your RC input with the gyroscopic forces of your weapon and the actual movement on the floor to send "corrected" signals to the drive motors. To kinda counter different floors and what not so your inputs always have similar results no matter the outside conditions.
Good to see cheesecake dominate again. I am also curious whether or not the beetleweight will be a bigger Cheesecake or something new. With how good Cheesecake is I trust that you could make another good bot.
I wonder if you could have a rotating object with a linear actuator mounted on it. You could put a weight on one end of a stick, and a spike on the other. Put the weight outwards to save up angular momentum then shift the weight in and the spike out to get a massive amount of speed without having to have bearings handle that speed continuously
By switching to those cleated wheels, you inadvertently showed just how effective your springy wheels are at prevent shock. There is one potential improvement I want too see, although it might be kind of expensive to machine. I want to see an aerofoil shape on the spinner to cut down on air resistance and drag. I want to see just how fast you can get that spinner spinning before low bite becomes an issue.
I would like at least some credit for Holey Pokes. It's a carbon copy of a robot I ran in January of this year at NHRL called Hokey Pokey. I even had googley eyes.
To be fair, the arena walls at NHRL are also wood, so it was a fairly reasonable design choice. But NHRL doesn't run antweights, so maybe we all learned something.
I agree, but I think some of my issues might come from excess vibrations in my weapon as well, so there might be more for me to improve than I realized!
You can see how my weapon attaches to my motor in the video linked here at 11:20. It's a custom-designed 3D printed collet. ua-cam.com/video/E24vhL6qeIg/v-deo.html
is there any pesky voice in the back of your mind telling you how cool it would be to move up the weight classes, (but costs or whatever else is keeping you from it) or are you fully content with antweight?
Beetle weights are a whole different ballgame to ants. In ants weight is your biggest enemy. I feel like In beetles space is. Everyone was joking at the last comp I went too that it’s not a beetle unless your electronics barely fit with zero room to spare. They are just so destructive that the frames really need to be built small so they don’t warp. Often ants will launch the whole bot. It beetles you start getting stuff completely ripped apart. Your entire bot can get destroyed in a single hit. I think it’s more fun personally. I hate going home with no trophy and a working robot. If I’m gonna loose I want to loose big. I started in beetles and I moved into ants recently so the opposite as you. I’m curious to see how the differences affect you. Good luck Alex
I'm currently working on replacing my currently belt driven weapon with a direct drive hub-mounted weapon and was wondering what methods you are currently using to affix the weapon to the motor housing?
I use a custom "collet" / adapter to hold my weapon on my motor. You can kind of see in this video linked below what it looks like and how it assembles. ua-cam.com/video/E24vhL6qeIg/v-deo.htmlsi=rBhZrN8O8kwbXPZq
Fun fact: I didn't really like the food when I first named my robot "Cheesecake", but now I *do* like the food, so I think I cognitive dissonanced myself into acquiring a new taste, haha.
Hello, im starting to get into combat robotics and want to make my own antweight. Was wondering what electronics are commonly used. Are microcontrollers like an arduino ever used?
Cheesecake mostly uses the same electronics as are used in the Fingertech Viper kit you can buy online. I originally thought that I would need to do some sort of programming with some sort of Arduino, but it turns out it's just plug and play RC car stuff, So it's very easy to put together and have it work.
You sound like David hayter who does the voice for snake in metal gear games. You should do robot based off one the robots from the games. Loads to choose from? Trust me it would be a big hit. 👍🏼
None that I actually mess with: Cheesecake is basically just a radio-controlled car, and those radio and electronics systems are basically plug and play. My transmitter is a Noble NB4, and it comes with a receiver. I then plug in my motor speed controllers to the receiver. My motor speed controllers connect to my motors, I throw in a battery, and that's basically all it takes. ua-cam.com/play/PL81yBUG7TPX3rRRStHBGLX0Rr2aaBqfFO.html&si=Ozmc-RnXGfT9YcEc
I don't understand why Azreal didn't get in some free hits after you got stuck the second time, I mean you were a sitting duck, so I wouldn't feel to bad about that win.
AUTONOMOUS BOTS OR GTFO!!! P.S. You may consider stopping or retracting the spinner when youre airborne as the landing on the spinner seems to be as destructive as a hit because Cheescake is flung far and high.

Honestly my favorite small UA-camr.
Not only is Cheesecake a solid, mature design, you simply outdrive most of your opponents. Well done!
To be fair half his opponents are usually kids lol

Love your fights mate, I miss robot wars here in the UK man. I can't wait to see your next build. 'Staying tuned for more'.
It was super cool meeting you, I'm coming up to GSCRL for that rematch!
I live in missouri and had no idea they had fighting bot competitions here. Thanks for sharing I will have to go and watch next time.
Great video and great first event for the group. Wish Cheesecake was coming to Houston next week.

I have my first combat robot fight in a few days because I saw one of your videos and build a bot from scratch
Are you going to call the Beetleweight bot Poundcake?
That would have been a great name for an antweight, but for a beetle, I did consider the name, "Beefcake".
Love Cheesecake
Awesome Battles!
I clicked on this video so fast so I woke up my cat
Well, what would the upgrade to Cheesecake be namewise if yer moving up to Beetleweights? Shortbread? Cheeseburger?
Good job Cheesecake!
I think the slicker floor really limited cheesecake since cheesecake is able to out maneuver most oppenents normally

It seems to me that that the arena should be designed so you can't get stuck in the wall that easily.
