Thank you for all the hard work on these my dad and I love them. This is a great family piece taking mail that my grandfather used while building the LA metro system now is a useable item my dad and I can use in our day to day lives.
Design is super cool. I have a bunch of spikes I think I'll mess around with the end like you've done. I see someone "mentioned" that railroad spikes don't harden enough to be serviceable. I usually do mine with a high carbon bit. Since someone brought it up what is your take on that topic.
I have made some knives with older spikes and They can approach the low spectrum of hardened steel. I’m guessing 57 with the hardiness files I have, the carbon content will vary GREATLY depending on the manufacture of spike. Look for the super old ones with little to no markings, at the end of the day it’s a nostalgic piece that most would not use on an every day basis. But it is a ton of fun to forge, and seeing that imagination come to life. Keep on forging friends 👊

Good looking knives! Lots of effort went into them, and it shows.

Just experimenting? Who wants a soft knife?
Thank you for watching and leaving some feedback 👍

All that work for a novelty. As a knife, that steel sucks!
