I think its because of an uber
maybe, while the class was ubered, and then taunted, and after their uber dropped, it maybe gives off a damage resistence? maybe after the uber, the dmg resistence was going down slower, instead of quickly.
@@fuwwox nah dude, theres two likely reasons the first one being unlikely because of how the kamikaze taunt was used, he got launched when he did the kamikaze taunt as seen from when he survives, this also moved his hitbox away from the explosion. The second reason is that soundsmith was under the drop off point of the 2fort hole in the middle. The grenades explosion exploded partially inside the edge of the hole thus taking away most of the range from the explosion, the kamikaze taunt does 320 dmg to self but he actually took 255 meaning he got dmg fall off which is the most likely reason why he survived.

I think, it could be that, in fact, what really happened was that, he got hit by an enemy explosive (a stray rocket or a pipe) right before the grenade went off, and the taunt was cancelled.
I don't know of any sources of 255 damage, though.

I mean he was overhealed both times so unless being more overhealed caused him to die I don't know.
Although side note I do think it's barely possible to survive the taunt kill if you currently have the battalions backup active.
OK I just checked you definitely can survive the taunt kill if you deploy the battalions backup and have full health. Although without an overheal the fall damage from getting knocked into the air will usually kill you. For reference I got this information from fishstickonastick's video about the equalizer.

im pretty sure its cause he did the taunt while default ubered and that caused the game to bug and think he was still ubered and so it didnt kill him but i think it still kills while ubered so idk

6:59 - The smoke on his hands is a funny glitch with the dueling banjo taunt they never fixed. If you get the engineer to start playing fast, smoke comes off his hands. If something else knocks you out of the taunt or kills you while you're fast playing, your hands keep smoking even across respawns until you start and stop the taunt normally. It's actually really weird because you can also see it in first person view.

It’s weird how the equalizer has the potential to be the highest damage melee weapon in the game and still kinda blows.

Because it's strong but damn near unusable and you give up so much utility and power in Soldier's basekit just to make it work. Pretty much like the Eviction Notice.
melees designed for combat have a real hard time if there's no easy way to close the distance, and its especially bad when combined with soldier's slow walking speed and need to be a one-shot territory.

7:41 - I think that interaction has something to do with the grenade and its explosion. You know how there's clips of people killing those on the opposite team with that taunt kill before the match starts on Payload, right? I think that has something similar to this because of how the explosion works, and how it collides/interacts with the environment.
It could also be because of how messed up TF2's code is, and how there are so many weird interactions and whatnot

In those instances, the explosion can effectively clip into an otherwise sealed-off part of the map because of the explosion's location - which explains why it can deal _no_ damage, but I'm really not sure how that can somehow _reduce_ the damage to...what was it, 250?

8:13 you survived because when you exploded the first time your soldier hit his head on the roof of the 2fort gaming and for whatever reason if your solder hits his head while doing that he takes less damage.

Edit: your head needs to hit a platform where above players can stand if it’s just the roof of a random building it doesn’t work
The ceiling is the same height as when he did the taunt the second time. I imagine its because the grate over his head can pass explosions through it. (Sticky trapping as demo for example)
@@rubimk3 source engine is a mystery nobody can solve also the feeling is a bit different like how sticky traps work when sticky’s are place above the ceeling so collision stuff it’s really boring but that’s why it works. yeha you right

@@rubimk3 the reason for this is the fact that the 500 damage explosion is (I think) spawned above the soldier. So when he jumped near the drop-down where there is empty space above, he bumped his head on the celling, and the distance from the explosion (or the grate negated) negated some of the damage
Dude, I LOVE the attention you gave to the editing, in particular the DOOM section! Rocket ammo going down as you fired + got ammo, HP and armour going down as they would in-game, the face in the HUD, and all of the respective sound effects!
I'm probably missing a few things, but man I love that attention to detail!

I’m not about to be that pretentious. I know the Doom sounds are from the game as I’ve played it before. I just noticed that the audio he used in the Minecraft segment is more than he needed to do and I wanted to know the stuff behind it.

The explosion that you survived in 2fort might have been from the positioning right under the metal grate? Maybe the explosion clipped into it partially or something like how you can taunt through the bridges on Suijin and it blocked it just enough to allow you to survive with the overheal? Idk though
the grate doesn't block explosions, that's how you can plant stickies on the top side and blow people up on the bottom floor.

or by official wiki, having the battalion's backup effect and overheal can survive the kamikaze taunt
or easier, just equip a rocket jumper, the self damage is gone but damage to enemies still active

For real, the equalizer is most likely the best replacement for the market gardener, since it can do notable damage, and benefits greatly from the trolldier play style.
I mean, it is great, but mostly i feel it needs to be in pair with something that isn't the Jumper, since the lower your HP, higher the damage, i say maybe using in pair with the Liberty Launcher or the Air Strike so you don't fully die from your own rockets.
I just gotta say I really appreciate all the work you put in to sync the sound effects/video to the music. So much serotonin on top of an already amazing video.
This channel has the funniest and most creative editing I've seen in years. The doom bit was not only really funny but really well put together with all of the doom sound effects that still conveyed what was happening even though it was hella pixelated.
I loved this! The editing has gotten so much better from previous videos. It didn't feel too overboard in editing like a lot of people can sometimes make the mistake of.
Too much can be good, though. Just take a look at Max0r. But it is _incredibly_ difficult to pull off.

The Gunboats actually did allow you to survive the Equalizer Taunt-Kill when they first came out. However, that’s no longer the case, as it was changed later on.

I think the actual reason you survived that tauntkill, was the game probably registered that you were ubered when you started the taunt, and presumed "hmm.. this guys ubered, so it won't kill him.." and instead it decreased the ammount of damage you took, and i think (think) it might've put the damage the enemy takes from the taunt in its place, since it detected you as ubered.
...thats just a theory though.
That would be a good theory, if he didn’t take damage. However, if it was from a Vaccinator, that would make sense.

The reason you survived is because this taunt is affected by distance. You explode but the dmg hasnt yet realised it. Thats why you jumped and bounced of off the ceiling, and dmg recorded only most of it because part of the dmg was done in the ceiling/above it.
Fascinating. I could only find examples of it being survived through a floor or spawn doors.
