Pras on Making "The Score", Selling 22 Million Albums
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 лип 2016
- The Fugees found great success with their second album, The Score, and Pras spoke in detail about incidents leading up to the album's release during a recent interview with VladTV. He explained that he was so dedicated to the album that he was living in the studio and homeless, but it all paid off in the end.
Pras said after listening to the album after it was first completed, he started crying because he knew that it was going to be something special. And he was very right about his premonition, as the album went seven times platinum and sold roughly $300 million worldwide.
To hear more of what Pras had to say, including why he doesn't think it's always smart to take advances from the labels, hit the above interview. - Розваги
And they created an album that was so classic that two yrs ago my mom went into a coma and yet she responded when this album played. It was Micheal Jackson thriller, prince's kiss and the score. Real music has power.
respect
True true i had cancer and organized konfusion and buckshot lefonque got me through therapy.
+Joanna Delacruz I know them well props to you for real hip hop
Peace ma have good day and i love your hat.
That's amazing.
Can we all agree the Score is one of the greatest rap albums of all time
But can we agree the beats & Hill were the best part
+Kyle lol
+Kyle I definitely bought the album for Hill, but I do love that album. That was a great time in my life.
i agree it is.. that album is a total classic
All Eyez On Me
The Score is a classic masterpiece.
Yes!!! I can't believe they was going to release killing me softly. That was the best song. I never understood why on the miseducation of lauryn hill why they never had can't take my eyes off wasn't a top single released. That's my favorite song
*wasnt
WHO TOLD U THAT???
Definitely one of the best hip hop albums ever.
+Cris LeRoi I liked it but it's much better albums in my opinion. I don't even think it's top ten in he 90s alone the singles that were released were dope and killing me softly was a remake.
This guy's contribution to hip hop is criminally unsung. His personality is what drove The Fugees and put the band together. He needs to get into movies.
Fucking criminal!
He does movie scores
fugees and wu tang need a VH1 honor special
indeed pras is hip hop!
+demikpre too muck members to honor RIP ODB
I was one of the people who bought both The Fugees and Alanis Morissette's albums. Me, my cousin and several other students at school had The Score. We live on an indian reservation in Arizona and even we knew The Fugees! Their music reached far and wide.
Yup
Pras put the fear of God and the black man into vlad....." WHO TOLD YOU THAT"! 😭😭😭😭😭😭
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yes! Pras.had that.fool stuttering. Who told you dat? Wi-wi-wikipedia. 😥 lol!
*Black Man
@@Scxoop123 black man is not a proper noun tard

Soon as he said that I liked the video....
lmfaoooo!
Wikipedia just saved Vlad's life.
LMFAO
Pras was about to scream on him... Lol.
"Who told you that!?"
😂😂😂
+¿Héctor, Quién? lol
LOL
Thought Pras was Gona be like"FUCK OUTTA VLAD!!!!,"
one of the first CD's I bought in my life. I was in the Navy, overseas and mt Source magazine said the must have records are NAS Illmatic and Fugee's The Score. I had no idea who any of these ppl were, but as soon as the ship hits land in Dubai, I went to the mall and grabbed a CD player and those two CD's. 90's hip hop was and still is the best!
Not even 10 seconds in and Pras was ready to body Vlad! LMAO!!!
😂😂😂
lmao. real shit
Track 10. "The Mask" As a kid, I would listen to that song over and over. The Score is honestly a masterpiece.
M to the A to the S to the K
Crazy that I'm reading this but it just played in my UA-cam playlist
"Who told you that?" Pras was turning the tables on Vlad's wannabe prosecutor ass. Lmao
😂😂😂😂😂😂
lol!!!!!
😂😂😂
LMFAO
Dude was sure that number was all private info lol
22 million albums is insane for any genre, that a Hip Hop record sold as well is bananas.
Ok so Im burying "put some respeck on it"....from now on its "who told you that".
foreal tho
😂😂😂😂I don't think this Channel /interview is big enough for viral tension ....good 1 tho
San Juan de Camarones DGO. NAW he dead on wit dat 1!! Pray da only 1 who checked Vlad wit authority n his voice & questioned Vlad so far! Vlad had to call an audible 😁...NEW SLOGAN!!!
LOl, well, most niggas on Vlad are on their to promote, this guy is on there just to be interviewed. He checked that wigger Vlad.
He has the most money of all of the members of the group, smart business man
True facts
I knew he was going to say he cried; if you're ever put your heart and soul into a project - especially if you're going through it - this hits home every time. That's a real artist. If you're not willing to put it all on the line, don't even try.
I'm pretty sure all three of them are still eating off of The Score album to this day.
The Score is one of the GREATEST hip hop albums of all time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the only albums that you can put in and not skip a skip, let every song play along with Nas's illmatic, 2Pac's All Eyes on Me and Scarface's The Diary.
Takes me back..... One of the greatest albums of all-time....changed the game.... Mesmerised watching Lauryn Hill on MTV
😂😂😂😂 I was scared for vlad "who told you that!!?"
Same he was not joking
Loll
That's that Haitian anger. LOL.
Why you scared for Vlad? You know how many views Vlad would get if Pras beat him down on camera. He would do Birdman Breakfast club numbers.
lol ... the way he said that it came off like a comedy skit.I bet vlad was looking for the door or security.
Pras is a very smart business man. Honest deep brotha. Always keeps it 100!!!
Shit even I was scared when he said "who told you that" 😂😂😂
Facts 😅
This man would make for an amazing manager
I was in love with Lauryn Hill back then. Posters on the wall, she was my Farrah Fawcett.
I fell off too though... it happens.
+Blah Blahh yeah but you never was shit. Jk, just a jk
vlad almost crapped his pants when pras asked him that question lol
this Album is possibly the greatest rap album of all time . its such a feel good album so powerful .
"too many mc'z
not enuff mic'z"
-pras
I pay more attention to the comments than the videos. Damn
Pras is probably just sitting on 20-25 mil chilling
CELEBRITY NET WORTH AGREES WITH YOU.
lol yep..
Who told you that?
AT THAT TIME CYPRESS HILL WAS SELLING 40K PER WEEK
yup he's sitting on paper
Pras knows that business, smart man....
The score is top five greatest hip hop albums(if not albums) of all time. Around that time fugeela used to play on the radio every hour or two. When we old folks used to make our playlist on cassette off of FM radio, there were certain songs you knew u could catch if you sat by the radio for a little while, especially on a Friday or Saturday evening, fugeela was one of them
Vlad aint listening to this man. Pras is giving cues and he's not listening. He's sticking to a script which is a shame. He could dug hard on some of Pras's answers. Great interview none the less
Nigga had Vlad shook when he said "Who told you that" 😂😂
LOL yeah bruh could've sworn I audibly heard Vlad pissin his pants
+autismpete 😂😂😂
Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa lmaooooooooooooooooo hell yeah he did
loooooooooooooool real talk
My Haitian bro I'm proud!!!!!

True you may hit failure on your way to success. But you can t quit and gotta keep digging
Absolutely brilliant interview, Vlad. Loved The Fugees and The Score. The scary thing is that album is now 20 years old. Ouch!
hes right when he said you could feel good music . hip hop it keep evolving examples like 50cent in da club , lil wayne amilli, migos bad and boggie. all different but when you hear it you jus kno shit not gonna be da same

Vlad got shook up when he said "Who Told You That?" lmaoo. Pras was on some "Who Sent You?!" movie type of shit lmaoo
THE SCORE IS A PAGE IN MY LIFE
Yes!
The Score was and is EPIC!
i was a homeless the year that album came out . i only heard from people's car. to me it is linked to extreme sadness and fear. i did not own the album until the 1999.
Powerful music.
But good music...really good music...is like a light in the darkness.
I saw a documentary where Pras went homeless living on the streets with nothing for i think it was some days or weeks. Anyway it took alot for him to do that. I watched him literally take a shit on the streets and beg for money, sleep in tents in the rain. It was very touching. Some of the real homeless people he filmed with died after filming. Its just sad, we gotta help these people America....
I saw that documentary....that shit was real...
BMP 23 exactly
Can you please tell me the name of the Doc pic?
+Robert Jackson i dont remember. Google it. He was out here in Cali in downtown LA on Skidrow...
Skid row
Need more interviews like this with talented and respected artists, and less clowns trying to infiltrate the culture or spew ignorance
It's simple, if you want to be a musician, take a course in Finance, Music Publishing, Music Distribution and Music Law. Or you'll fall victim.
And that's the business!.... Good man!
Ya because every rapper, singer and label cares if you have a degree? LOL. This is 2016 that shit doesn't matter as far as getting a degree goes but as far as learning the shit ya of course you need to learn it just like music theory.
Its all about work ethic because that can't be taught you either got it or you don't. You're only as big as you're last hit.
Vital HeartBeats | Rap Instrumentals | Beats With Heart www.vitalheartbeats.com Wow, you are an idiot. No one but you mentioned "degree". A course meaning, to know the ins and outs to not be taken advantage of on the business side of things. Know what you're talking about before posting, cause you sound stupid.
So every course leads to a degree? You are a clown and most definitely need a course in "grammar". Come back when you're able to use an "apostrophe" correctly.

The amount of money being mentioned throughout this whole interview was insane, and negus are still killing each other for some change!!!
The Score is a phenomenal hip-hop album. Thank you Fugees 💯
The Score is what got me into Hip Hop. One of the best albums of all time.
Great Interview!!!!!
Pras was about to turn the table on Vlad “who told you that”😂😂 Vlad put it on blast
Everytime I've encountered this brother the exchange was RESPECTFUL..INSIGHTFUL and POWERFUL..
can we all agree that vlad got scared a little bit when pras said "who told you that? who told you that?!" he kinda whispered "wikipedia.." haha
Great interview very informative much love Praz.
damn I wanted tp hear more about that business side
Me too. Pras was smart. I know not every person can afford to take a low advance, but you put more power into your hands that way.
roscoegino Exactly. Dude was on point with his business back then probably without even realizing it. Hopefully Vlad doesn't leave us hanging for weeks on this.
any one no what it means when he said the capped the single so it didn't go platinum
+nigelbryce basically they stopped shipping copies of the single to the stores so you couldn't buy it anymore. you can't do that today because everything is online and digital not an actual cd or tape
im amazed by it.. and i dont think he even relized it back in the day. you can tell this guy was not lying about be a college type student..
Love this interview
Pras looks mad serious like he on trial
The Score being a pinnacle album in my life, I find this interview to be extremely entertaining and informative. Vlad I see you on the camera and lighting upgrades!
Same here meet too bro
That "who told you that" was epic lmao. Glad was shook.
I like mashed potatoes.
That's what I'm trying to do with my films. I hope I can feel that level of success.
right!
You will, bruh. Never give up and don't let these crab-in-the-bucket ass fucks tell you you can't do it.
bro hit me on Google plus real talk I wanna hear your work ive been there being from West Baltimore struggling hating my environment but I flipped it and started producing beats and shooting music videos for local MCs then got the opportunity to work for years now with King Los building that relationship which took me to the industry making steady tracks for him among others like Shy Glizzy Meek French Montana Ace Hood and others shooting live shows and music videos as a secondary item slowly building that and next week im flying to Tampa to shoot a video for Forgiato Blow and my laptop full of fire beats will be on hand to sell some tracks. I feel your hunger bro and I don't want a penny it's all about working with other talent that is dope!!
this inspired me to keep going
I lived through everything he is saying. First album, the remix...the first single off the Score. Then Killing Me Softly. I went to college before KMS was even a single, and I was slapping it non-stop 24/7 in the bumfuck town I was stuck in. I single handedly put an entire city up on this album. There was no internet to speak of. I was a 1-man promotion street team out the back of my dudes 1993 Honda accord.
Actually, I think I deserve some bread for the work I put in haha...
Both Fugee albums are classics! I still bump it!
Keep these coming, fam.
Wow. They recorded The Score in a built up studio?? No wonder the volume on most of the songs are so low. Well, at least the first pressing and not the reissue.
My ninth grade class was on a trip to Baltimore harbor. My freshman class was about 1,000 people. At least 100 of is snuck away from the teachers to go get The Score cause it released that morning. Definitely one of those albums that keeps it's place in your memory.
that's a dope story
Dope interview
Great interview
The Score will always be my best classic album
im proud to have this album, one of my favorites
The Score was fire front to back. Used to bump the shit out of that as a kid
Good interview, great album great era of Hip Hop
200+ copies to 22 million+ copies from one album to the other. crazy bruh
The Score changed my life...and the 1st album started changing my perspective on hip hop along with Digable Planets
More of this interview please.
Yo Pras looks like hes ready to shoot the fade with vlad every vlad speaks lmaoo
ikkkkkk hahaha this nigga the type to get mad even if you give him a compliment

He even asked Vlad, where you heard that? with that look
"ooh LA LA LA its the way that we rock when we doin our thing."
🔥
+COD4LIFE Straight Flames!
the album is still massive..it's still on my playlist
Great interview Vlad.
this is a dope ass interview. just drop the full
First album I ever bought. Fell in love with Hip Hop because of the Fugees. Absolute legends.
One of the best album of the mid 90s
This interview gonna make a nigga go listen to the score again. Double 💎 though
Crazy, right?
DJ Vlad: From what I read, the label gave you $135,000?
Pras (snappy): Who told you that? (Repeats) Who told you that?
DJ Vlad (sheepish): It was, uh, Wikipedia.
Now, see, if if was Nardwuar, he wouldn't have caved in so easily: "You're Pras, we have to know!"
that lp is very special and mystical in a great way it is their best work plus a 90s hip hop masterpiece
pras get tight when he starts with that money talk.
This interview already classic 10 seconds in lmfao
I remember buying a Casette of the score and listening to it. I was a private school kid in Yorkshire UK and I absolutely loved it! Haha....true music transcends everything.
Fugees needs a Movie.
I remember just playing that album all summer with my boom box in the prodjects in the mid 90's
Oh pras, keep dropping knowledge.
very interesting!!! good to know.
would love to hear the full interview
pras is st8 up guy, always been.
great painter to
Vlad needs to interview more classic Hip Hop artists and have them go through the process of creating the classics........I'm sick of seeing all these new bums on
VladTv
Yh word all they do is talk about how many times they got shot, and bullshit music
True facts
Yeah. Pras is absolutely right about artist being screwed. Specially when it comes to points and owning the publishing rights.
The Score was...wow!
Ready for part 3...
Vlad gets like the most random people to do interviews. Last time I saw Pras was around 2001, when he did "Miss California" track some Dante Thomas, or whatever his name was. Glad to know he's still alive.
Pras is no joke ❤️❤️❤️
I might be reaching, but to me he has a Marlo Stanfield type of demeanour to him. Especially at the beginning when he asked "Who told yout that"?
It's cause he talks through his teeth, like 50, and every other new york dude Vlad's interviewed
Airbornebull Ah so that's probably it lol
Like Charlie Murphy...
He dropped some gems. I learned a lot here.
Killing me softly was straight 🔥back in the day. That was my jam!
LMAO... Vlad paused for a sec when he asked "who told you that"...i was like shit about to go left 30 seconds into the video 😂😂😂
