The Hyundai i30 N is a performance version of the i30 family hatchback and it features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing either 247 or 271bhp. While some rivals are faster, few can hold a candle to the i30 N where handling is concerned - something that’s all the more impressive given the value for money it offers.

"Why would anyone want Eco-mode?" Well because not everyone is going to be thrashing and hooning their vehicle everywhere they go. Hyundai did a great job making it a versatile all-around vehicle.
Never thought I'd see a "reviewer" complain with such a feature.
I have one and I almost exclusively use eco or N custom mode.
How bout when I'm just on a straight road on a long trip on cruise control. You wouldn't choose anything other than eco mode.
Nobody should ever complain about too much choice! What a rubbish "negative".
Mike Miller indeed!
Agreed 100%! It's a great car with some great options, that nobody has to use if they'd rather not.
The idiot complains that the default N mode ride is way too firm and then complains that you have too many options ie. to adjust the suspension settings separately !!
Agreed. It's not like you are being forced to USE all the combinations..
Agreed. Totally misguided and biased.
"Too much choice, just give me a Golf GTI and be done with it." --- without any explanation of what N Custom mode does. It allows you to configure the car in a way unimaginable in a Golf GTI, and tailor the car to your exact preferences. Saying this N Custom Mode is some kind of negative is total rubbish - the more important point is the next point, where he says that you can customise to your tastes (eg Normal suspension, full-crackle exhaust, light steering etc) in the same way you can in supercars 10 times the price. Here's an alternative view from Down Under about how i30 N compares with Golf GTI, and it starts in a graveyard...

I was sold on the car the moment i saw it in person and test drove it. Ended up purchasing a Pearl White I30N Performance Pack, with Luxury Pack, Panoramic Sunroof, N-Labelled floor mats and a couple other bells and whistles. Luxury Pack is well worth it on this car, gives you Leather and part-suede for all seats and both Driver and Passenger seats electrically operated. You also get a heated steering wheel and heated seats. Delivery is expected in a week or 2.
Nice! Im picking mine up tomorrow. Performance blue with all the bells and whistles. Going from a boring tdi 😂
So how does it drive?
Charisma didn’t realise there was a luxury pack. Where in the word are you based?
Charisma excellent choice by the way. Congrats!
Any problems with it? I considering one. Thanks.
There's never too much choice, that notion is ridiculous. All they need to do is organise it well.
Not true.
James in 'N' mode is hilarious! 👍
He said head room in the back isn't great, but he looked fine to me
shawneal1 that's what I thought! There's flipping loads of headroom!
He needs a convertible if he wants more
Finally, he has changed his pink pants for a green one. That must explain why we didn't see him for a while, he was probably busy shopping to buy his new trousers
Not digging the cowboy background music
Hamzah Patel ...yeah, doesn't fit the car at all, LOL.
Fit the driver thou kekeke
Not K-pop, already unsubbed
isn't it the grand tour's opening music
Broken Bum in a Hatchback
Wow people are welcoming James back, I thought everyone hated him when he took over from Mat Watson
I do lol
You can tell he's a golf bore
Good to see Jim back, the birds have done a good job, but I suspect this video will have more views than any of their recent offerings.
Very nice driving critique on this one. Well done review!
I love the customisation, so much that I bought one over the competition
Good to see you Back, James....
Excellent review as always. Like your style
Welcome back Batch!
I was hoping you will bring back along with you those beloved pair of red trousers!
Great review as usual
good to see u again.
Return of the mack it’s good to see James back . Hee hee
"No officer, this car is the NORMAL one, says so on the grille".
James, the best car buyer reviews!
You can live with this car because on custom mode you can set the suspension settings. Why eco mode simple long drives needs good mpg so why not have the mode..... having driven the car myself I think it clearly beats the rs and type r because of the warranty and you forgot to tell viewers it also covers track days.
WTF, HOW HAS THIS BLOKE GOT A JOB, , (SAY HE GREW UP WATCHING QUINTIN WILSON REVIEWS ) Mind boggles
James! Finally! Yes!
He ! Has ! HIV !
Great review...
Great review. On Eco mode: I commute and would certainly use it for parts of that journey. On the custom modes, as you mentioned, many are saying the best is to use N mode with softer suspension and possibly lighter steering.
I want one!! :)
I use N in full and it really isn't that bad on suspension. Tho I have always preferred hard setups. It does make all your bits wobble but not in a negative way. Get one!!!!
@@pow1983 Only a year late for my reply but... I did :D Bloody brilliant car.
I sense a little bit of badge snobbery. You're complaints were the car gets to stiff in N mode, TRACK MODE on a b street plus too many options? Are you kidding me? Too many options.../facepalm
James....YOUR BACK!!
Klasse Act what about his back?
You're*
James....YOUR BACK IS ON FAYA!!
He has HIV, so he's now dead
I've got an i30SRTurbo1.6turboPremium w 201hp in Oz. I like to think of it as i30'Lite'. Love Hyundai. Not for euro lovers or badge snobs. It vaguely reminds me of my Jag E-Type Coupe in the sixties, albeit a fair bit milder! Boy, haven't cars suddenly 'come on' of late. Hy/Kia is not 'sexy', but, reliability, yet performance & 'tech' is SO impressive! :-)
If it only had three preset drive mode options you'd moan there's not enough choice.... Choice is a good thing - you certainly don't have to explore every permutation once you've found what suits the road and your own personal preference.
Honestly this is the worst review channel I have seen.
“Just give me a GTI and I’ll be done with it.”
Yeah right
N-mode when your on a date with a well endowed lady ... 😂😂😂
This guy is the new Quentin Wilson in sound.
I'm so happy James is BACK! Haters gonna hate - and they can eff off!
Soft Touch plastics?. Lol. Did you even tried to touch them because all other reviewers say they are hard plastics... Besides that it's probably the best choice in its segment
So that's what they were saving him for.
this car should eat a golf gti :)
Finally, Batch is back!
Not for long, his Hiv test came back positive ..
I think James is like shmee. Very informative reviews 👍
Hi guys it does look very nice as you say on the outside the inside is very dull and grey I think for the money they're asking for it I really should think about the interior as well but I'm sure it will sell well and as for the exhausts I don't think you'll ever get bored of that. Cheers phil
Missed you mate. What I wouldn't give for a bit more stiffness, lol
He could give you some stiffness
Thank god our back....
Thank god your back....
God disagrees, he liked it better when James was on life support diagnosed with HIV ..
This is the best car!
After this review I’m sure you don’t have an editor or a true petrolhead
James is a funny wee dude......
I see Merc, Golf in its DNA, is it a bad thing...?, maybe, so the interior isn’t Club Class, it’s a Hot hatch not a Limo !
All the reviews I have seen on car buyer end with either they would prefer a Ford Focus or Golf GTi. On Top Gear they leaned towards BMW, Audi Porsche and Mercedes. On fifth gear again they're either ford or whatever fan. Talk about bored to tears. Not everyone can afford those cars so get real reviewers.
Rear vents would have been good
Other than that its a great hot hatch
Love James!
Not bad. Would still prefer the Veloster N, but we are not allowed that in the UK :-(
Increase the playback speed, its a lot funnier to listen to
What is real fuel consumption and 0-100km/h in always Eco mode so I have a picture how it runs.
Missed you!
Don't hug him , you'll get HIV
Bobby Bass why you sau that on every comment about james
Everyone going on and on about the 1944 different settings being bad. Just wait till you figure all the settings in the climate control; 276768 different combinations! It's 8,856,576 in total if you include the heated seats and steering wheel. Madness I tell you! Or is it? Not really. All of the 'combinations of settings' are in fact totally separate settings, and have 2 or 3 options to choose from, making it pretty easy to find out what each value does for a specific setting. Only someone bad at math would multiply every separate setting into one big number and complain about the number being too big.
Oh and yes I did the math, so the 8 million odd combinations should check out. And yes I own an i30n. It's not perfect, but the customizability is actually one of the brilliant features.
background music is very very similar to Grand Tour's
This is why I swapped to carwow.
“Not much head room” literally has 2-3 inches above him
“Thanks to this flat floor” has a pretty big bump in the floor!
Did he even take a good look at the car before reviewing?
Good God that interior is like something out of a 8 Grand rental car, couldn't live with that.
Performance n is 23000 pounds down under
Finally James is back !!!
Ws8301 S1311 Matt is better
Not for long he has HIV
Looks way better than the U.S. bound Veloster
Idk why this is compared to the type r and the rs. It's an st and si competitor
Wedow I don’t understand either buddy. They do type r (320 hp) and golf gti (230 hp) and not the golf r (310 hp) or Audi s3 (310 hp) but yes to focus rs (350 hp) doesn’t make sense AT ALL.
Manousos Anapliotis priceand tbh the golf R or s3 from 30mph on would have a hard time with this car. Can't wait to see tuning options.
Is it me, or do I just hear Will from the inbetweeners. Good review though
Ok, so complains about too much choice one second, states why it is perfect the next... Erm...
Quoting a Leon Cupra at £34k. Great comparison. I bet all the tech in a Nissan GTR would be praised by him. He owns a Golf GTI.
Yep and the Focus RS. Really? The direct competitor would be the ST.
not being funny but who else thinks James Batchelor is ditch water dull like the dashboard
Jimmy Silvano couldnt agree more. No idea how he has this job
Not me.
Oh, James, the stuff you have to put up with
Not me either. I like James's reviews. Glad to see him back. I'm missing the packet of crisps, though. (I know they're not the healthiest of foods, but who doesn't like potato crisps?!)
👍🏻😂
Not a bad car, seems good
Great car, very subpar review
Is this basically built on the same chassis as the new Kia Cee'd? Body almost looks the same too.
The Ceed and i30 have always been the same floorpan so yes, the new Ceed GT will still only use the 1.6 unit and cater for the warm hatch segment...
Bang bang bang bang bang. Pop pop pop pop pop!!!!
6:22 bang bang pop pop crackle crackle
hahah james laughed like a korean, kekekeke
The engineer moved one letter along the alphabet
You say at 0:57 that "everything's well put together" while on the i30 (no N) you're saying that its dull. It's actually the same interior front. THE SAME. What does that say about you as a reviewer ?
How's the suspension on comfort mode? Anybody can share their experiences. Thanks
A little bit harder than a normal i30
Oliver Esch thats not bad then. Thanks
It can do comfortable just as nice as maximum attack. I drove it on a really bad cobble stone road during my testdrive and no hopping around, firm but composed. It was just as comfortable as most normal cars. I ordered one 😎
This is the happiest I have seen James... Hahaha
Hyundai i20n or Vw Golf GT I or Ford Focus RS or Honda Civic Type R or Seat Leon Cupra or Peugeot 208 GTI?
Golf ;)
Oh Seat definitely...
Car Reviews Honda
Eco mode becaUse there comes a time when a person who owns a high performance car just wants to save money on petrol hahaha.
that critic about the modes is a joke. and not even a good one to be honest. N mode is too hard, but the fact that you can customize it like u want is bad as well? come on, just say its insanely good
So it looks like a hot hatch evo
Quinton Wilson the second lol
I've seen atleast 30 review videos for i30 N and this is the ONLY one where someone made the "N Custom" a negative thing !! a rarest of rare dislike from me for this video
Why not as 2 doors and dsg .....pls do it !!!
Aq
Erhan Alp dual clutch is coming early 2019
good
So let me get this right. This is not designed or engineered by the Hyundai. They probably did the testing, refining and building.
gti80 No, you misunderstand.
The ex-head of BMWs M division was poached by Hyundai/Kia to sprinkle some magic on their cars.
This isn't unusual in the automotive world.
Who is Ni Hyu?
Pound for pound campest car review on UA-cam
vegan-gains main-chick “you do you boo”
vegan-gains main-chick
Pound for pound.....
Yeah he's thinking that too but not about the car.
Ask nicely and he might give you a pound mate
Its pops&bangs not pops&crackles
It does look dull on the inside, but the exterior is impressive.
When you talk about the steering wheel do you mean "fat steering wheel" or "phat steering wheel"
Crying cuz they hav given too much choice. WTF
There is such a thing as too much....!, it’s a Car not a Jumbo jet!
*Hey-un-deh*
Pricing announce Australia . performance package 202kw 22500 pounds / 39,990 AUD Bargain
I'll never understand why english speakers always refuse to pronounce brands how they are supposed to be pronounced. I remember when Hyundai go introduced to my country they taught people how to pronounce it. Hjundai....Just Hjundai....not Hi-undai. Is that so difficult?
kraenk12 when you go to an Italian and ask for pizza margarita or spaghetti bolognese do you use proper Italian accent? I don’t think so. That’s why everyone have their different ways of saying things. Accept it and move on mate.
Manousos Anapliotis Actually I do, so is my family. Been to Italy many times and even had Italian as my third language in school.
kraenk12 that’s good but what I mean is that people have their accent all over the world and we can’t really change that
Manousos Anapliotis The point is in most other countries people at least care about how brand names are supposed to be pronounced. It just seems that native English speakers seem to have a problem grasping the concept of other languages. This even applies to normal names...Michael Schumacher or Angela Merkel just being two examples.
What’s this guy talking about?
Stop talking like tiff
What? Britain's best hot hatch?! Don't you know it's korean, lol
Good! James.😎😁👍🏼
Like you really much this car?. 🤔
久しぶり
Of all the letters, N?
tg72211 Nurburgring apparently....
Developed at Hyundai N in Namyang and tested at Nurgburgring - makes perfect sense.
How can u complain about to much choice ? Seriously.
