- How to Grow Yuca aka Cassava roots. I like to plant them in April and May, just before our rainy season starts here in Florida. We don't water or fertilize them. They produce pounds and pounds of edible roots in 9-12 months. It is propagated by cuttings, not by the roots. This is an awesome survival crop choice since its dependable and produces even in harsh/hot/dry conditions.

Is there a root, that's also called cassave, looks just like cassave, gets the wax treatment like cassave... but does start to sprout? I forgot 2 tubers I bought last year before summer. Instead of rotting they sprouted! Many, many sprouts.. roots are growing from the tuber and the forming sprouts are hard and tough and somewhat similar as how a ginger starts, with a tiny bulb. Do I have another sort of tuber? And which one? It was sold as cassave and truly looks just like it, but it is sprouting
Useful information. Much appreciated

Mmmmm my ex's mom used to make pasteles in PR and she would send them to us in Florida. They were so good. I miss PR food lol
I don't think I have ever had pasteles made with yuca... only plantains. I will definitely have to try.

My family is from Hawaii and grew a lot of kasava I think it’s delicious and can be used in so many different ways it’s amazing. I personally love the way Filipino people make kasava cake it’s my absolute favorite
I never heard of cassava cake. I will have to Google that one. My family is from the Dominican Republic and my favorite recipes is garlic, butter, and mojo baked yuca.
@@JerrasGarden it’s I gift from heaven. Look up Filipino kasava cake
Hello beautiful
D you have yucca? My husband is Puerto Rican and I want to grow it in my garden for him. I am in Tampa
I bought yucca today to make Dominican chicken soup. Found recipes on You Tube😊
Yuca or yucca?
I really want to find a way to taste it prepared. 😊
You can easily find it at Dominican/Puerto Rican/Cuban restaurants. It is commonly fried like French fries or baked with a garlic butter sauce which is my favorite.
@@JerrasGarden I just found 2 restaurants about 40 miles from me. I’m very excited to try them!
Thank you!
Theres so many kamote kahoy/cassava plants outside our house 😂 in the Philippines
My dad lives in the Philippines. We have very similar climates.
Legally per Dominican constitution, you’re also Dominican 😅 thanks for the tips ❤
I'm first generation born in the USA. I do speak Spanish, I have visited my family there many times, and the only thing I can dance to is bachata LOL
I like to eat yucca from the store because it hard to find yucca cuttings.
Yes it is very hard to find cuttings. I plan to have some available on my website in spring when we harvest our crop.
If they only grow from cuttings, why do they flower and grow fruit with seeds. I have seeds for them quite a lot in each fruit pod
Canssava is medicine
I recently saw a survival video where the person dug up the root grated it into powder and added water to make bread dough. The bread looked remarkably similar to loaf white bread but apparently, it was made with just the 2 ingredients. Can you affirm that you know of anything like that? I've been searching to discover exactly what it is and the person on the video speaks another language and is not replying to comments on their videos.
Yuca is also called cassava and yes, the root can be dried and turned into cassava flour to be used in baking.

Cassava and yuca are the same. I have never heard of yuca sprouting from a tuber piece. Not sure what you have. There are lots of different tropical tuber crops.
😢 I see this video AFTER buying one to grow.
Come to philippines free cuttings
My Dad lives in the Philippines. I have to come visit him some time.
How do you preserve your Cassava?
We have a tendency to harvest as needed and eat fresh. Otherwise, we clean it and freeze it. It can be turned into cassava flour too but I have never done that.
Can they survive the winter or tropical only .
It is a tropical plant. My area can get down to 30F and they survive. Main point is to keep the roots under ground from freezing.
@@JerrasGarden thanks looking for food plants to grow off grid in Canada my area gets to minus 40 in winter. green house it is also looking at stuff to grow as cash crop
@@paulbaskerville2748 If you haven't already, maybe consider tubers or crops grown in the colder mountainous region of the andes?
They give me bad breath
Not DR you are American. No hablas español 👎
