- In 2016, Eddie Hall made history by becoming the first man to ever deadlift 500kg. In 2023, the bar has been raised even higher.
Join Gavin Bilton for Episode 1 of our Road to 505 series, powered by Gymshark. Gavin talks about his first ever deadlift, what motivates him, what his goals are and who HE thinks will lift 505 and the world deadlift championships crown with it.
There's $55,000 on the line. Will anyone do it?
#strongman #deadlift #weightlifting
Gav is a gentleman, the guy is just super respectful and kind. His strength is amazing as well, class act.
Great content, keep up it giants 🎉 looking forward to the show
Goal of mine is to do 500lbs/227. I've got to 222kg a handful of times but never got that last bit, annoying being so close. Wish I knew what I needed to do. I'd be proud of that at 88kg
Where is your sticking point? As long as your technique isn’t the issue train deficits if you’re weak off the floor and banded DLs if you’re weak in the lock out.
I think Hixxy might do it this year, if he stays injury-free. His training numbers are getting really strong!
Love big Gav. He’s quite the man.
I’m most looking forward to seeing Jamal at the deadlift champs
I will do you a favour Gavin, I won’t enter. Ha ha! You are so much stronger than me mate, your ability to lift weight is truly amazing. I do feel that you are a winner and you can win. Over to you Gavin. Thanks for a great vid.
I remember my first 300kg
The current champ Heinla?
Unpopular opinion. Disclaimer: deadlift is my most favorite lift. That said, it's EXTREMELLY overrated. During 40+ years that Strongman is a thing, we've seen countless WR deadlifters compete in strongman and just be a punching bag, or at best mid of the pack. Having a good deadlift was never really important or decisive until now, with social media trends and desperate need for headlines.
.
Still here? Good. Magnus Samuelsson, Jane Virtanen, Geoff Capes, and more recently Kieliszkowski, all perfect examples of average/bad deadlifters who wiped the floor with powerlifters and deadlift specialists in every competition.
Great deadlifters like Makarov, Gabe Pena, Adam Bishop, Rauno Heinla, Jerry Pritchett are perfect examples having a tremendous deadlift means nothing in overall strongman strength.
Name anything purer than getting a weight off the floor.
The only thing that compares is getting a weight above your head.
It's something everyone understands: pick it up.
@@crypt8919 I used to think this way, I really did. Deadlift is still my favorite and most beloved lift. That said, I'm able to see it's just a bragging rights contest. Think about it: name 1 lift lightweights (70-80 ish guys) can be extremelly good at, sometimes lifting above 300kg while being at 80 kg bodyweight. Why is that possible? Because it's not really a full body movement like everyone thinks. It's just lower back and a bit of hamstrings, nothing really more. 80kg guys can deadlift 300kg, but cannot overhead press 180kg, carry 200kg stones in the arms, bench 260 kg, flip over cars, run super yoke with 450kg on the back... deadlift is the only one you can be good at while being small, therefore it's not really a so taxing lift as people make it out to be.
@@crypt8919log over head lots of great deadlifters but not meant overhead pressers
This guy mentioned Jamal at the end but you can tell he really didn’t want to mention him knowing that he possibly could break the world record soon. Also Jamal a lot more smaller in weight and shorter in height and he does it raw. 🤷🏾♂️ BUT I UNDERSTAND! ITS LIFE.
Jamal has absolutely no shot at the world record
Sorry ape, Jamal will never come close. He's a weakling compared to these guys. I know your desperate angry black ass wants to feel special....but guess what? You're not 😊😁😁😁😁
“Road to 505” is just a UA-cam title at this point.
Someone should just not talk about it and get it done.
If you need to look that to lift heavy, then no thanks... haha
Gav can definitely join the 1000 pound club. He’s improving all the time
I’ll be there in watching so will be great to see
Great documentary, thanks Giants, looking forward to this years deadlift comp & more videos like this
Thanks! We've got 5 more episodes on the way 💪
@@GiantsLiveSTRONGMAN Yeahhhhhhhh buddy !!
Hey usless, you Britain's does not give credits to ice lands.. Hathore broke eddie in deadlift and boxing you dummy...
How can you not love this bloke. It's no wonder Gav has such crowd support wherever he goes. Humble and respectful. Would love 1000lb to go up fir him
Gavin is a huge strong man, but he is miles miles away from 505. Not even remotely close
Hall was 45kg away from 500 when he turned up for his lift
@@jamestodd1104 can't really remember the numbers, but he was repping that weight i believe.
@@AngryRoleplayerno he didn't Eddie said himself he was stuck at 420kg in the gym it was a mental block
@@AngryRoleplayer That's completely incorrect though, he's mentioned several times that it was his first time pulling 500kg
@@MrFuglybear I said he was repping ~450 (i don't remember exact weight). Obviously he never repped 500 lol
When he’s got the weight hanging from his shoulder, he looks like Mitchell Hooper…
Jeez
A very big Mitch Hooper yes xd
This years desdlift championships are gonna be crazy.
Jamal is gonna surprise us!
@@chillypeper777 Jamal gets 425Kg no problem, no suit, no hitching. He is just gifted. If he learns hitching and puts on a suit, he gets 440
@@e.c.9468 he did 395kg for 4 reps 2 weeks ago. Imo he pulls atleast 450kg clean with no suit and hitching. Maybe he has 475kg in him, but will see :)
@@e.c.9468he's done 410x4 a few weeks ago with no hitch you can't seriously think he'd need to hitch 440?
@@bruuhhhh looked like he had another rep in the tank too lmao.Definitely the best deadlifter on the planet.
Can't wait to see The Bull be winning Giants Live comps!
Good luck Gavin. I hope you get the record. It was a real pleasure meeting you and getting your autograph at Myrtle Beach. I am 5 foot 10, 260 lbs. I felt like a child next to Gavin.
You may be shorter than him but you are just as wide if not wider. Did you dirty bulk
Not even close to wider lol, Gavin is over 400 lbs
@@isaacwittinger8617 and Gavin is 6:9 480. But 5:10 260 is huge
Gavin is definitely bigger in every way even with that height difference. Gavin looks wide and thick at that height could you imagine if you shortened him a foot.
Unless this is 260 at like 10-18% fat built like a bodybuilder
he's stronger than me at any rate.
certainly got me beat.
I would imagine
要自信!!
要自信!!
Slightly stronger than me too. SLIGHTLY!
Nothing affiliated with Gymshark can be described as "alpha"
Gav seems to be great. Most of these guys are. I still think, Super Mario, is better than the sausage for a nickname. I do hope all is well. I know he had a emergency recently.
Doing Wales proud brother, love watching you compete
When did Kenny powers become a strongman? Lol
Been following Big Bilton for a few years. This dude will win WSM in the next two years. He is a all around badass. His careers before strongman makes him great. Appreciate your service sir.
Gav's such a great ambassador for the sport, you can't help but want him to succeed.
Big Gav is a picture perfect strongman, the guy has the best attitude, the best laugh and the best mustache lol. All that aside the Welsh Bull will win WSM one day. Much love from the United States Of America. Let’s go Gav you can win.
300kg, "im quite good at this sport"
Mullet + pitvipers add at least 20kg to your max. At least
Respect for giving Jamal his due respect on just being a pound for pound monster regardless of stance. I think he has a chance to break 1000 if it goes to plan. Will not be a top contender but definitely interested to see how he does after only just recently training conventional
If he peaks well he might be able to pull more than 1000#. They should do 10kg jumps for those that want something different. It will add a dynamic to the competition, separate the competitors, and allow them to get the most out of themselves on the platform. It’s the deadlift world championships and might not have anyone with a real shot at the 505 so why make it about 505 rather than a rising bar with smaller jumps to find the best deadlifter that day.
@@anthonyproffitt5341 I’m pretty sure they pick their own shots. Unless everyone elects to jump over a weight
When he’s got the weight hanging from his shoulder, he looks like Mitchell Hooper…
Jeez
Bilton n1👍
Eddie started it all. However much further that deadlift goes Eddie will always be known as the first to ever do it
First time ive ever seen this channel...but you bet im following this road with him and cheering the whole damn time. Lets go baby.
Definitely a great video, looking forward to more of these in the run up!
Damn the disrespect on Rauno
??
Love Big Gav. Can't wait to see him at Cardiff and the Shaw!
Luke 15:3-7 (KJV)
3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
Damn Luigi been eating alot of pasta,198 cm and 215 kg high carb diet lol.
5:35 big belly but damn look at the shoulder's and bicep's
He is super ultra mario
Love you Gav - Gentle Giant and full of class
i thought this was a video about driving to new mexico. false advertisement.
Since that Europes mishap, Gav has become a new and better athlete, he was way to heavy before but now he is getting podiums since dropping the weight
I love seeing these guys just get totally amped by the crowd and fighting their guts out to get a massive lift done. It’s the best.
I like these vids, i hope the champ rauno will be up soon?:)
I’d say squatting is better but both deadlift and squat are basically tied haha
Gavin is one of my favorite athletes. Still young in the sport. Massive potential.
Every time I watch something to do with deadlifting 500kg+ , it just blows my mind that Eddie Hall did it so many years before everyone else. Gav is a beast though!
No way will gavin ever hit 505 he's not that guy
How Eddie pulled that 500 was an a miracle. His mental preparation was beyond his physical training sessions that's why he literally almost died after he pulled it. Thor is just a beast. The man is A Giant in the flesh..
thor deadlift was fake, he barely pull 400kg before the record
Great video, best deadlift I ever saw was a prisoner in the UK initials JM pulling 300kg around 1993. It would be nice if he is out there to know, that I remember.
Looks like a jacked Kenny powers
There’s a Mexican young guy forget his name but for me he’s going to break the deadlift world record with in 3 years
Look forward to this
Goooo on gav mush ur a humble genuine person an you have come on loads in the past couple ov yrs..yaself an tom an luke an bish an hixxy an probs more are all doing the u.k. proud keep up the hard work lads....bigup from bidzy westmids gypsy 🙌👊👊🙏💯💯👍
I gotta ask, I can't find the answer anywhere. What shin sleeves (green ones) do I see all the big lifters using? My shins are destroyed even after trying 3 different brands
I would honestly think Gav would be too big for the army... good luck fitting that man in any kind of wheeled transport and you'd better hope youre not stuck sitting "next to" him
I pulled 1046# at 224 lb body weight. Pic was in International Muscle Mag in 94'
🤡
You should really rename this to the road " attempting" 505. Because it's not happening this year.
😢
You'll have your say next Thursday @@TheHixxy1985 😉
The progress big Gav has made is incredible, so I think watch this space. Loving these videos
Definitely want to see you hit it! 💪
😍👍👊💪🏅
No one is touching 500
He is on the rise. If he stays healthy and injury free and continues to improve, he will be a contender to win Worlds in a year or two
💪💪💪
You can
Do it
When will we know the weight jumps?
Get it!
Would love to see Gav hit 505! Such a cool dude
Love the content this channel is pumping out. Please keep posting
Best is yet to come from the Bull.
I said it all along. He win world's you watch. He's incredibly strong and his strength and mind set are second to none. He'll be the world strongest man.
Unfortunately I completely disagree, love the guy and he’s a monster but he’s always always a fair bit short of the top runners.
Never gonna happen.
Hope all is as well as it can be with Gav. Take care❤
Very well made video!!!
Gav, you missed Rauno!!
Love that format ! 💪
Quote of the future:
Beat the Beast
Best of luck to you sir
Every year you can see he keeps getting better Good luck Gav.
Oh man I love Gave
*WOOW WHAT A BEAST!*
👍
If you lift 505kg I'll change my name to Mohammed
Beast Man
Good luck 👍
Krzysztof Wierzbicki 502,5 kg sumo
How the hell was he able to hold 500Kg fully locked out ? That bend was brutal tho
He always looks alpha and motivated. I hope one day he will make history for lifts.
Hey usless, you Britain's does not give credits to ice lands.. Hathore broke eddie in deadlift and boxing you dummy...
The most alpha lift will be the ohp or a snatch tho. But the strongman dynamics are gonna get changed.
A snatch?
I have never even seen a snatch in strongman 😁
@@quelandil5738 no i said two separate things. Picking from ground to overhead is the most alpha movement. And the strong man dynamics like eddie claims he is the strongest, hafthor claims he is the strongest so that might come to an end.
Gotcha
I'd say that is basically a promotion topic. Whatever the organisers see as the best lift to promote some record breaking will be the most "alpha" thing.
Deadlift has always been there but not that hot of a topic until early 2010s
In terms of defining a strongman I'd agree that a log lift would be a good measurement since it uses so many muscle groups and can be easily compared.
Snatch simply irritated me since it is way more technical and less brute strength
@@quelandil5738we probably should see a snatch tbh that'd be cool
Krzysztof Wierzbicki 502,5 kg sumo
Check the stance od strongman deadlifts, its near, deadlift id deadlift and 500kg is 500kg,mybe we banned people on bench for to King stance
High bar is the way to squat when you're a bodybuilder (builds big and strong quads) of weightlifter to mimmic the upright stance of a clean & jerk / snatch.
Low bar gives you a better leverage to get the highest number
I cringed when Eddie called it the most alpha lift and I cringed when this walrus called it the most alpha lift
i love how he skipped hafthors deadlift
Keep dreamin'
Love to see Makarov and Bilton BOTH hit 505 in the same year!
