    I feel like they focused on spectacle over a good story and good characters.
    It looked pretty cool, I’m not going to lie, but spectacle is not even the top 5 most important parts of a good story.
    I really do hope that they make it better than season 1 was. If not, then I probably won’t even be able to finish the season.

      As Paul Hollywood always says on the Great British Baking Show, "Style over over substance..." [heaves a disappointed sigh in British]
      That's absolutely the kind of criticism we want to avoid!

    I know this is a very odd thing to ask but do you have an opinion on the first series of the new doctor who?

    • @camillesharem
      @camillesharem  16 днів тому

      Honestly, I can't give an opinion on the quality of the writing and overall show because I haven't seen it. But I will say that it doesn't come across as appealing to me. I've watched more Doctor Who than most Whovians; I binged everything I could get my hands on one year. And I watched everything to the beginning of Capaldi's Doctor. And I slowly fell out of the fandom after that. It felt like the story was on its last legs, like there wasn't much new they could do because they had made the stakes had been sooooo big too many times.
      I wanted them to wrap things up and let the Doctor take a break and go on hiatus. All of the reviews and pitched episodes I have come across for the series since then feel like tired rehashings. And again, it doesn't look to appealing to me.
      So, that's my opinion, but I really can't give any credible insights into the newest episodes and season beyond that.

    You'd think it'd be a non brainer even with the kind of DUI type people that run the show to cast Sauron as Sexy since these people like to bitch about the male gaze but are fine with guys being made as studs for the ladies, so having an excuse to go canon and appeal to the Sephiroth fangirls seems like a no brainer.
    Alas they can't even see that right.
    I also disagree on the notion of judging the next season as its own thing, by labeling it as part of Middle Earth they are inviting the scrutiny to judge it by the standards of being consistent with Middle Earth in at least spirit if not in detail. Trying to steal the name of an existing IP for the prestige but not accepting the responsibility is having it both ways.
    BTW the reason why they don't make their own original IPs is due to one the one hand Executives that don't know shit about the IP but just see it as a brand seeing it as a safe investment, while on the other hand, a bunch of hack writers hijack said IP because they know that otherwise no one would read their shitty Wattpad stories and instead of learning the hard way going through their cringe writer stage to learn from it, want a shortcut so they can force their "unappreciated genius" onto people that normally wouldn't give them the time of day.
    That and I think a lot of Modern Hollywood writers legit hate what a lot of old IPs stand for and want to destroy them. Tolkien had his work very heavily influenced by his Catholicism so of course Hollywood which hates that kind of person, and hates traditional ideas of Heroism, Traditional, and Individual Self Sacrifice would want to "fix" his work and see it at problematic.

      @camillesharem  15 днів тому +1

      Oh yeah! Generally speaking, Hollywood has lost its creative drive and hunger. Studio heads fancy themselves creatives when they are basically managers and bean counters who only do the bare minimum of their jobs, lording over weak-willed creatives who know more about writing their own fanfiction than writing original stories. As a result, because both parties are imaginatively bankrupt, they have to subsist on IPs. Rings of Power is truly the perfect storm of ALL the problems currently plaguing modern Hollywood.

    I think they went too far during season 1 in ruining the lore and timeline, to fix it retroactively in season 2.
    I do believe the whole story with the tree sickness and elves dying will be proven false, but why the elves were too stupid to fall for it, or why the leaf on Durin's table was indeed healed by mithril, will not be explained(at least not sufficiently)
    What I'm hoping for is for more concentration on certain story arcs that make more sense for current events, so that it will make for better pacing and less jumping around toooo let's say murderous Harfoots, plus some better dialogue by all and better behavior for Galadriel that will make more sense for her character. These couple things alone will make season 2 much better than the dumpster fire of season 1, although it won't make it worthy of the LOTR name

    • @camillesharem
      @camillesharem  15 днів тому +1

      I agree. No more Harfoots! And please make pseudo-Gandalf interesting and relevant! Galadriel not only needs an attitude change, but she needs a humbling that actually affects her and motivates her to begin reforming and become the queen she's supposed to be. We're unfortunately going to get more jumping around because they now have a spinoff subplot about Isildur being lost behind enemy lines.
      What they need to do is put the dumb mithril subplot to rest. That's over and done with. Never mention it again! Move onto the Rings of Power and show their abilities and WHY the rulers of the world would buy into this scheme with all the pointless, non-canon paranoia that the writers introduced. Yeah... With all these problems, this series will never be able to attain the same heights at LOTR. It just has too much crap for baggage!

    So Lars, forgive me for my arrogance in asking this, but it must be asked. I am in the midst of creating a ttrpg campaign set in Middle-Earth during the Fourth Age, and I'm looking for players. Considering this festering abomination that we'll bear witness too in August, I do not posses billions of dollars like Amazon, but my heart is a trillion times more precious than what these parasites could ever push out. If your interested in this, and if you have available any form of way where we can chat via voice, please share because you'd be a gold member of my player group.

    I saw the teaser and did not feel nothing... The first thing I thought was that Annatar should have been another actor. Sauron could shape-shift, that is cool as h3ll and actually it would make more sense that he could trick the elves in that way... but Idk sometimes I feel that they have true fear of success. They can choose to do something cool but somehow they always make it lame. I will also watch this because honestly what I feel right now is curiosity. What crazy ass thing will they invent to continue this fanfiction mess? And I also will be watching it as something on its own, is so far away of Tolkien that can't be called an adaptation at this point.

      I'm in same boat. I felt next to nothing while watching this trailer, but I am curious about what nonsense they're going to cook up! It's all fanfiction at this point, but will it go the high way of Sonic High School!? Hahaha!
      I would say that they're not afraid of success, but they are afraid of challenging themselves. They're afraid of criticism. They're afraid of doing what is best by the story and its characters, rather than what will aggrandize them. As a result, they are ironically doing everything possible to succeed while desperately pleading for success! And honestly, that can be hard. From what I've read of Payne and McKay, they never actively sought real feedback and criticism.
      Put them in a room with me for a few hours and that would be my first and foremost focus: learn how to take criticism and feedback.
