Lots of people covering Reykjanes eruptive events. I find your coverage to be the most time efficient and covering "the right stuff" (how much more eruptive materials, where flowing, changes in lava coverage and general activity).......and I am a volcanologist by schooling, Masters in basaltic style activity. Keep up the good work!
Great to see the maps of the recent flows. The lava has to go somewhere. Crossing the road again to Svartsengi is less than ideal, but it will do what it does.
I noticed as output lessens, uplift graph gets a little more steeper....so is the upper magma chamber recharging as done previously in the past eruptions or is the source from the deeper magma magma chamber 12 km deep?....I comments seem to be spot on about this current eruption...have a great Fathers Day....
So the average thickness of the lava field is about 4.6 meters, that's about 3 times my height since I'm about 1.5 meters. I'm rather short for my 37 years, thanks a lot scoliosis.
@@Hliarmenn Yeah. 1 square kilometer equals 1 million square meters, so 9.2 square kilometers equals 9.2 million square meters. Multiply that with 4.6 and you get just over 42 million cubic meters.
There's magma flowing into the chamber and out of it, up to the surface, at the same time. So, it's almost like it's going straight up from the reservoir deeper down.
Hey! I made it here. And thanks for your speculations, but thanks also for the data you provide re output, etc. I have nothing to offer in terms of when this eruption will find a finality in its journey. I only hope it will not cause more grief to any infrastructure issues, nor inhibit tourists from visiting many other amazing features, places, incredible scenery and wonderful history and lore of this beautiful island. It's only a little volcano after all, right? LOL Icelanders sure know how to deal with the worst-case scenarios wherever they show up! Lovely video, and my thanks as always.
Ay, thanks for watching all the way through Wendy, I also hope we'll get through this without further damage. You're also right, this is actually a relatively small event that effects a really small part of the island.
Did you make this before the crater wall collapse? They showed it on AFAR earlier today but only from the opposite side. I'm wondering if it will affect the flow.
I've actually not heard of the crater collapse but it seems to have occurred while I was making the video, around 5PM. Since the crater wasn't full it didn't result in a breakout flood which is fortunate.
Thank you again for the update. The map showing the extend of the lava is very informative.
Great to hear it helps!

Wow, it's an honor to receive a comment like this Paul, it really motivates me!
Thanks a lot for tuning in!
Thank you for your informative update. Skaal.
You're welcome 😁
Brilliant update, thank you.

Fantastic! Still active. This is a long term eruption.
Yep, it's following the steps of it's predecessor

That's actually crazy to think, 4.6m!!

thanks for the best updates
I guess about two weeks left. but who am i?
Ayy, you're ThatOpalGuy!
Two weeks doesn't sound far fetched!
is the magna being released as lava coming from the chamber, your deep down in the reservoir ????

It has covered more just in the last 18 hours Sundhnúkur is disappearing
Yeah, would be interesting if lava manages to cover all of Sundhnúkur.
