Hey hey y'all! We love this simple, beautiful life we live here in small town Alabama. Come see what it looks like to live in the deep south. Picking Wild Blackberries, making blackberry jelly, Decoration Sunday, and more.
Come join our large family as we share what life looks like in a small town in the southern United States. We live in a double wide mobile home on a one acre homestead and share our way of living here with you. We're raising babies, chickens, and food and sharing it all with you.

This is how we live in Hatton (North Alabama). Decoration is taken seriously around here. I love our slower times and southern traditions the older I become. I’m hoping my children appreciate our small town as they grow older as well. I went away for twenty years and came back home to raise my children.
I'm in Marion Alabama. I just bought a 100 acre farm down in the middle of timberland. I love it so much

This is the first time I’m seeing your channel, where in Alabama do you live? I’m down here in Mobile, little city of Semmes, my husband is from Greenville Alabama, we love the country life, he bought his granddaddy’s 100 acre place along with his daddy, we loved going up and staying in the country as we called it, pond fishing, blackberry picking, moving cows around, hunting. Now our son has our part and he takes his kids up to do the same, good country living!

Blackberry pickin brings back lots of memories for me, especially how I always got eaten alive by chiggers. I love blackberry cobbler. Used to when I was young, on decoration day we had dinner on the grounds and everybody would work and cleanup around the gravestones. Then everybody would have a picnic together on the ground. Good memories. Bless your sweet family.

Decoration Sunday!!❤ I am from the SE corner of Alabama and no one down here has a clue what that means, but I have a ton of relatives in the Cullman area so I spent my childhood with the family loading up to head to Cullman the first Sunday in May for Decoration Sunday and family reunions. What fun memories!!!
I have so many sweet memories around Decoration Sundays ❤️. Cullman sure is a special place, isn't it? 😊

Just found your channel. I am hooked. I’m from Tuscaloosa (Roll Tide). Grew up in Hale county, Greensboro. My brother and I picked blackberries as well. Just baby hardly find any these days where they use to be plentiful. Just went to Homecoming at a country church and took my 99 yr old mother. What a blessing to see her little feet tapping and her hands clapping.

I would always spend a week with my grandparents who lived in southern Missouri, and pick blackberries so granny could make the best blackberry cobbler ever..such great memories.

I have decoration the next two Sunday's. Always enjoy seeing everyone and we have "dinner on the ground" which always has so much great food and fellowship. The crowds have thinned down so much in the last 25 years. It is sad to see our mountain tradition dying out. Hope ya'll have a great week and God bless!
We love the south. We always want to vacation there when we can.
I loved listening to the gospel music. I was raised in an Assembly of God church, and my parents were members at the time of their home goings. I go to a Grace church now where my daughter and her family attend. We went to a lot of gospel signings when I was a child, and I can still picture my Mama clapping her hands along with the music.

Hello really starting to follow your channel. Decoration Day at church is a southern thing I believe. We sing in a Southern Gospel group for 35 yrs now with my husband and others. My parents and grandparents had a group so that's all I know lol. Daddy was a Southern Baptist preacher. Mom played the piano. We had a singing yesterday. No Homecoming today. Kinda slows down in the hot months. Look forward to following you more often now! We sing every song you posted lol thanks for sharing the clips of them. They have good harmony.

Loved SO many things in this video. Would love to find a place where you could pick wild berries. I planted blackberry bushes last year and this year will be my first year to get any. They are loaded and I can't wait. I don't really go fishing anymore, but it all looked so peaceful!

Makes me homesick for Skyline AL (where my mom's family lives). Especially the old time Gospel music. My family goes to a Holiness church and they sing that kind of music too. My cousin's husband is in a group called Southern Soul (they're on UA-cam). Unfortunately I live in St. Louis, but I get down there as often as I can. God Bless.

I’m wondering what part of AL you’re in because here in central AL we don’t do decoration day. We have homecoming but not celebration. I had never heard of it till several years ago I was on a pulpit committee and we went to hear a pastor in north AL and they announced it for the next week. I wonder if it’s a northern part of the state thing??

Would you mind sharing your recipe for the cabbage and sausage? I tried searching your channel since I have seen you make that before but couldn't find a recipe. Thank you.
Sure it's so simple. We usually do one small cabbage or half of a larger cabbage, one package of sausage (we love conecuh), 2 cups of heavy cream, several dashes of worchestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Bake at 375° F for 45 min- 1 hour (until the cabbage is as cooked as you like). I cover it for the first half of baking and then uncover.

Do you make something from the blackberries strained from the jelly, or is it used in the jelly too?
I leave it in when I make jam and I strain it for jelly. With blackberries we really prefer jelly and the chickens get the pieces left behind. :)

Absolutely no racist ideals here in this family 😊 and I think you would be pleasantly surprised with Cullman. It's full of people who love and respect regardless of race, social standing, or dollars in your bank account. I'm not going to pretend like there haven't been issues in the past, but that's not what Cullman is now, and I'm sorry that you even have to question that. 😢🥰
