    my mom would kill me if I wasted that amount of rice, sugar, and tea leaves just for smoking the fish.

      LOL. In my country (Vietnam), about 1.5$/kg of Rice (best quality rice), 1$ per 100g tea leaf and 1$ per kg of sugar. But 15$/kg of Salmon. On other hand, we can't get Apple Wood (because apple tree can't grow in my country). We can buy Apple wood chip in supermarket (difficult to find) but about 20$/kg =)). Then we accept this method

      @@windsurfer2565 the cheapest way in my country is using bagasse. Sugarcane juice is most common juice in Vietnam. But the taste will not similar your tradditional method

      @@huyphanquang1780 we have a lot of sugarcane growing here but unfortunately no-one juices it like I've seen it in Asia ..what a waste also watermelon juice was a favourite of mine and you don't see that here either ..might try and get my hands on some raw sugarcane and try it

      @@windsurfer2565 Raw sugarcane even better than begases. The brown color of food will be excellent. You can combine raw sugarcane with charcoal
