    How do we know when to use the dictionary form or conjugate it into a specific tense when using an adjective in the second way? Ex: When to use 작다 vs 작아요. Maybe I'm overthinking...

    • @rheannonf4347

      This is my question also!

    • @Eliana-fw7ys
      @Eliana-fw7ys 4 роки тому

      I think maybe the dictionary form is more formal? Like you use 입니다 sometimes instead of 예요. But it's just a guess I really have no idea.

    • @byunTAEuP
      @byunTAEuP 4 роки тому +7

      @@rheannonf4347 I've got an answer! The dictionary form is typically used for generalized audiences such as newspapers, reports, textbooks. Dictionary form can also be used for personal entries such as notes and diary entries. Good luck with your studies!

    • @byunTAEuP
      @byunTAEuP 4 роки тому +2

      @@Eliana-fw7ys Please read my reply below! There is a difference. ~ㅂ니다 is honorific, formal
      Dictionary verbs must end in 다
      Examples:

      행복하다
      싸다
      비싸다

    English has verbs used as adjectives, like , "the running man was stopped". (That's actually two!). It's a familiar concept. But English has adjectives that aren't verbs too.

    if a adjective preceding nouns, the adj. could be said as an attributive one(acting attributively)
    if following nouns, like "someone is pretty", pretty is a predicate, or acting predicatively

    Nice explanation! I didn't know about adjective-(으)ㄴ form so it helped a lot!
    I just think you should have mentioned that if we are using the adjective after the noun (conjugating it as a verb) it needs the particle 이 or 가. But I guess everyone here already knows that, right? :P
