another thing to keep in mind is that button-feel can change as the thickness of paint reduces the inner diameter of the button cutouts. in some cases it can cause buttons to get stuck
I always wondered how to get good paint results without investing in an airbrush snd a bunch of expensive paint and solvents. Canned automotive paint seems to do the trick! Thanks for sharing your technique. A lot ppl keep this stuff secret so they can charge insane amounts of money for simple customs. Good on ya.
Thanks Devin!!! Previous to do this with canned spay I invested on a cheap airbrush, combined with the wrong paint, and the result is what I showed you at the beginning of the video. 😉 I learned teh hard way 😅
Respect, I've done several console paint jobs my self and I'm always watching videos to pick up new techniques. It's very refreshing to see someone describe prep and priming before painting. I've seen so many fools just start spraying Willy nilly, no prep, too close, too heavy, wrong paint, etc. Good job my friend.
I'm interested in painting a console I just picked up, but it'll be my first paint job so I'm looking up tutorials in advance. Any suggestions you would give to help a newcomer?
Great video !! Thanks for the tips !! I’m planning a mod for my gameboy sp to have a look like the SNES but the purple and gray one, that is the one that I knew when I was a kid, I’m from Colombia so I think they sold that version here I never knew that colorfull one !! But it also looks great 🙌
Hey Jordi, I watched the full video and it was very helpful but I still have a few questions if you wouldn't mind answering them for me: 1. How many coats of primer should I apply? 2. What colour primer should I use? I want to paint a black PS2. 3. How long should I wait between applying the primer and starting to paint?
Hello hope this will help 1. one should be enough jest make sure you cover the whole thing, BUT don't overdo it as then you could end up with pooling and cloging up holes 2. with black paints generally it does not matter but if you change your mind some colours cover worse than others and then your primer will tint your final result (yellow is one of worst offenders in this) 3. that has to be on the can you select but humidity will affect that (more humid -> longer drying time)
Hey Jordi should I still sand if I’m just gonna clear coat?, the shell I’m using already is the color I want so all I’m doing is painting the design with posca pens not completely spray painting.
I know the video has been up for a while, but would you recommend the same kind of three layered combination if I wanted to paint the A and B buttons a specific colour?
Was this the OEM GBA shell? I found them to be much better quality plastic than the replacement ones I have held. Thinking of doing this to breathe some new life into a couple of old GBA SP's.
Hey, Jordi! Please, I need some help: The shell I'm modding is one of those translucent purple types. I want to preserve as much of the original look as possible, the only thing I want to do is draw on it's surface. So that being said, I'd rather use a paintbrush. What paint should I use, and what should I look out for in order to, as I said before, maintain most of the purple translucent shell? PS.: Greetings from Brazil!
Hey man!! that's tough... I think the type of paint doesn't matter a lot if afterwards you put a coat of varnish. Maybe I'd go with water based paint, but I'm not that sure about this... Maybe there are some other tutorials out there with this specific need. Sorry bro, can't really help you a lot here.
I was litterly searching for that topic since some months ( I painted my wii mote golden, looks terrible lol) now I look in my subs box and there you are! Thank you so much! Btw, have you thought of doing your own retroconsole with an rasberry pi and retropie?
Hahahaha! Thanks!! I'm glad this is useful then! 😉 I haven't had the time to learn about the world of raspberry, but I should!!! Have you done some mods with it? 😊
JordiPower I built my own (s)nes console, just without a shell. With the newer versions, you can play n64 games. But since I'm on a budget, I used the first version. It took me a long time to pair it with my xbox one s controller, since retropie is linux, but I saw that the 8bitdo controllers support retropie. But I have no money. I'm gonna spend it all tomorrow at Splatoon 2 and the new pro controller.
Muchas gracias por esta guía! si no es molestia quisiera consultar algo. Veo que casi todo el mundo usa latas de pintura, pero yo tengo una pistola de pintora y un compresor de 50L, hay algo con lo que deba tener cuidado?
Hello!! Wonderful video!! I would never have thought of auto paint! Would this method still work if I also wanted to hand-paint some designs and/or Pokemon on the shell? :O
I hope someone can answer... will a few layers of paint change the clearances for components inside? (Will everything fit back together after adding layers of paint)
most things will still fit, as you could see in the video his parts fitted nice and snug as well, you might have small issues with screwholes, but paint is soft enough to the point where that'll fall off when you put the screw in
That's what I got, but I think they only deliver to Spain: www.pinturaparacoche.com/epages/eb2584.sf/es_ES/?ObjectPath=/Shops/eb2584/Products/1%5B74%5D/SubProducts/1-13%5B3%5D
Hi ! Jordi, Thanks for teaching us these things. Do you speak spanish? Could you make a video in Spanish about these things? you would help us a lot thanks for everything
Really cool video Jordi. I want to get some paint so I can restore an old Snes I rescued and to paint my Bartop arcade cabinet. Is there anyway you can send me your logo!!? I would like to have the Jordi power logo on my arcade 😎
In my opinion painting a old console shell properly with factory color or close or custom is much better than a cheap aftermarket china shell that feels and looks bad
Really helpful tutorial. I'm planning to start my Switch button mod today with your other video. I may just go all in and paint the shells to match the SuperNES palette.

I'm looking forward to see this comparisson.
another thing to keep in mind is that button-feel can change as the thickness of paint reduces the inner diameter of the button cutouts. in some cases it can cause buttons to get stuck
Just cover it, cover inner diameter with paper or something
You could file the holes. That way they still get painted the same color, but wouldn’t get bigger

Thanks Dryon!!! 😊
It’s awesome 🙌

Amazon Links would be great to everything used in this video
Very helpful video! I'm planning on restoring the orginal grey gameboy. Your video is going to help me. Thank you
I want this man to teach me how to do everything for the rest of my life

Can you try a 3ds clear plate covers? Like the xl plates but they are transparent
That would be awesome! And where can you get a clear plate?
Really good and helpful tutorial. Thank you!
Best tutorial I've seen! What's the tool you used to hold it while you spray please?
Thank you so much for elaborating on everything. Fantastic video
Very informative tutorial!! Looking forward to the screen comparison!
Thanks Nick! 😉 I'll post it soon!
Hey Jordi should I still sand if I’m just gonna clear coat?, the shell I’m using already is the color I want so all I’m doing is painting the design with posca pens not completely spray painting.
It served me well, thank you
These videos are amazing!

GREAT Tutorial my friend ! Keep going like that 💪🏻
Merci!!! 😉
another hidden gem...
Was this the OEM GBA shell? I found them to be much better quality plastic than the replacement ones I have held. Thinking of doing this to breathe some new life into a couple of old GBA SP's.
Miss you and your videos, I hope you are well.
great video jordi! i realy like your content :)
Thanks a lot! 👊😉
If you started with a darker colored shell your paint coat would have come out a few shades darker, like if you started with a black case.
Un español con un inglés decente y buen contenido. Genial vídeo sigue así !!
Keep it this way!
Es fluido pero el acento es tremendamente marcado xD

man your tutorials are amazing I'm beggining to see it I will tell you later!!
Thanks man!!! Sempre és bó veure't per aquí!!! 😉 🙌
Great video! I'll use this method to make a custom N64 controller!
Thanks man!! I'm happy this will help you! 😉

Can i use regular sandpaper at start to later paint it white to have basic colors to start sketching?
Muchas gracias por esta guía! si no es molestia quisiera consultar algo. Veo que casi todo el mundo usa latas de pintura, pero yo tengo una pistola de pintora y un compresor de 50L, hay algo con lo que deba tener cuidado?
New subscriber. Great stuff. Thanks.
Very charming accent... you probably get that a lot
Jordi, tienes un canal dónde hagas este tipo de trabajos con la explicación en español??
Super Famicom themed screens are available on Aliexpress now!
Muy buen tutorial, un crack sin dudas
I was wondering why I need to use a primer... Now I know, thanks :D!
👍😉
Probably a dumb question but would i be able to do this on an original purple shell?
You might want to make it white first.
How long should I wait between color and clear?
Can you use a clear coat instead of a varnish?
Hello!! Wonderful video!! I would never have thought of auto paint! Would this method still work if I also wanted to hand-paint some designs and/or Pokemon on the shell? :O
Very cool! 😸
Thanks Jessica! 😊

Would be nice if you make a tutorial how to make that with a 2ds.
Do you have a spare 2DS? 😁
Thanks for the video! Can you link me to the specific places you got the cans from? (a website and model number or additional information should do)

Hi ! Jordi, Thanks for teaching us these things. Do you speak spanish? Could you make a video in Spanish about these things? you would help us a lot thanks for everything
Tu eres español no? xD
Saludos desde Colombia :)
Mi inglés es muy malo 😂😂😂
Isnt it cheaper just to buy a painted shell?
jordi i was thinking about doing something new and i thought maybe you can turn a ps4/xbox one controller to nes controller
theme
please reply.
I don't plan to do it at the moment, but that would be a cool project! 👍 Why you don't try it? 😉
lo voy a intentar con una carcasa de la game gear
Really cool video Jordi. I want to get some paint so I can restore an old Snes I rescued and to paint my Bartop arcade cabinet.
Is there anyway you can send me your logo!!? I would like to have the Jordi power logo on my arcade 😎
Hahahaha!!! Are you sure you want my face or logo in there? 😂😂😂😂
Hope you paint job goes well my friend!!
In my opinion painting a old console shell properly with factory color or close or custom is much better than a cheap aftermarket china shell that feels and looks bad
How many coats would I use of each spray paint?
Between 2 and 3 is enough.
JordiPower Thank you.
Donde conseguiste esas pinturas?
Its great
you deserve my like, going to buy a very shit ps3 and paint it, so that i won't accidentally sacrifice my own ps3 to the paint gods :)
Really helpful tutorial. I'm planning to start my Switch button mod today with your other video. I may just go all in and paint the shells to match the SuperNES palette.
Thanks buddy!! I saw your pic on insta! 👌😉
