I still remember the first time I went to New Zealand and I was gobsmacked by the the absolutely stunning homes built there and the talent of the architects. So much so I brought 2 very big and large books on NZ architecture. They have incredible style and insight to what works well with the environment but still looks incredibly stylish. 👌 Another exquisite home.
@@Supersonic1000Mr one was called 'Big House, Small House: New Homes by New Zealand Architects' its from 2012 but its still a beautiful book to look at and the styles of the homes were ahead of their time. Available on Amazon, the other book I cant recall the title as I think I either gave it to my daughter or its packed away as Im renovating. But if I find it I will post in a few months when we are finished :) If you go to NZ its well worth looking in the bookstores they had so many fabulous books. I was overlimit luggage wise....again.
The use of materials is outstanding. The rusty steel next to cement and wood is very appealing. I love the black waxed steel as well on interior features.
Beautiful materials will aged with the pass of time and look even better . It was built to serve this purpose while is calm and relaxing and is about 30 minutes out of town next to a river . You can tell there’s beautiful architecture with a single frame . Congratulations !
exquisite.. i love houses with separated spaces.. love that distraction and exercise involved and this one is a gorgeous. thank you for this inspiration! also very loved the landscaping as well
Very beautiful, I keep looking at houses like this in beautiful places, and I keep imagining that here in Brazil, despite having many beautiful places, a house like this can only be built in a closed condominium with security guards.
Well done. As an aspiring designer, I found myself looking for the drip edge on the eaves. But I think the angle and depth of the fascia section Wont generate much water flow
As someone who grew up in the Midwest US (cold winters, hot summers), always wanted to know how you could design a house with big windows that can withstand the elements (that also doesn't look like a disgusting McMansion).
Same here. We live in Illinois, enjoying the annual rollercoaster of climates. It would be nice to be able to design a large open floor plan with windows that can effectively insulate the interior.
The materiality of this home gives it uniqueness. I particularly like the use of COR-TEN which adds a lovely patina to the façade. I am reminded of the late American sculptor Donald Judd, who also made extensive use of COR-TEN in his work. The Chinati Foundation preserves his legacy and makes Marfa, Texas a destination for art lovers everywhere. There are beautiful homes in Marfa, if you ever decide to film Stateside, and the landscape of West Texas is as breathtaking as your footage of New Zealand.

Yes. This whole "modern farmhouse" description seems to be ricocheting thru social media. No matter which way you cut it this is not a farm and especially not a farmhouse. It is a well done, expensive, modern structure plopped into the middle of nature.
Nice that from a distance the buildings don't seem so obvious. It's a shame they've severely minimized the views and connection to the land and sky with the overhangs on the buildings.
Corten Steel is one of my most favourite building materials ever. If you want to see the best architecture in the world then subscribe to The Local Project Publication!
Beautiful house. Note to Local Project: Please do not use this background music in your videos. It distracts from the talk. Silence is much better so the commentary can be heard better.
While these houses always look amazing while relatively new, I always wonder what they look like after a few years. There are no gutters or downpipes on this house. Being a flat roof house this is bound to cause a multitude of problems
Looks like internal gutter with hidden downpipe, with parapet on roof edge. Any new design comes with weather tightness risk, but it passed the NZ building code.

I've had the privilege of visiting this home. Amazing
Hi, is it open to public? If so, what’s the address please? Thank you
Near the Rakaia River by any chance
All of the finishes that have been applied blend in beautifully into the aesthetic of this home.
6:07 That view. *Breathtaking.*
I am happy to move in immediately. The landscape, OMG.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I actually plan to move to NZ in couple of months later.

Some beautiful colours, textures and harmonies that are very honest to the natural environment. Really beautiful house in its entirety.
Such a beautiful house and I like the way you have to move between the structures, via the outdoor spaces. Very well done!

Love it!
So glad!
Absolutely breathtaking house.
best house i've seen in a long time.
Congratulations to the owners and the arquitects!
I wish I was part of this family and could enjoy this amazing house and mind-blowing surrounding.
So do it with your own family! :)
Stunning absolutely stunning 👏👏
Such a beautiful design!
So calm and quiet place 🥹❤️

Wow! So cool ❤

💯JUST BEAUTIFUL 💯
Pure genius

meek- mansion
Triple pane windows, expensive but its for the extremes and better noise reduction

Don’t be confused with this houses’ form matching its function. Architects in NZ are celebrated for designing beautiful inefficient homes.

I'm glad you liked the Corten material in the surroundings! It does have a unique and natural look that can complement various settings.
Great design 👌

The house is beautiful but I was excited about seeing an actual farm 😁 I think in the u.s. this would just be described as a modern country home.
Yes. This whole "modern farmhouse" description seems to be ricocheting thru social media. No matter which way you cut it this is not a farm and especially not a farmhouse. It is a well done, expensive, modern structure plopped into the middle of nature.
Nice project, what is the brand of the hydrolics for ther horizontal windows? Looking forward to actyually finding some of them. cheers
If i had a giant pink diamond i could have built a place like that. Thank god for ring door cams and eye witnesses!😮
Love the rusty shipping container vibe
very nice house
I'm curious as to what a house like this would cost to build not including the land
❤❤❤
I like to work there😂❤
Did not know darth vader had become a farmer .

Overhangs are effective shade creators.

I was hoping one of the cottages was going to be a stable. Headline or title of video should be Three Little Cottages on a Mountain.

im in new zealand
Excuse me sir, I want to ask your permission, can I repost your videos on my social media account?
all that rust staining on the concrete floors would drive me crazy
I don't really like these "modern" houses. However, I liked the video.
I think a bit more color wouldnt have hurt the video...
Why not say patina again?
This is a building not a farmhouse.

but isn't rust not healthy???
PATINA
Searing heat in NZ OK sure

You don't think they've accounted for that? You don't think an entire team of architects and engineers thought of that?
@@horseheadproductions7038 you'd be surprised
Kiwi architects would be very aware of this, the weather there can be very extreme.

Great, but what’s with the colonial furniture from the junk shop.
Well its no longer a secret
omg. stop talking
These house owners need to realise that they DON’T have to give their house a Māori name. It’s OK to have New Zealand European pride.
It’s also OK to have a Māori name … in fact many people prefer to have a Māori name.
