Greensmith is not only a marvelous cellist, he is one of the most thoughtful musicians today and I attribute it to his innate musicianship, excellent instruction (including by the wonderful cellist and magnanimous teacher Donald McCall) and a real range of musical experience, including as cellist with Tokyo String Quartet, Principal Cellist of the Royal Philharmonic, founding member of the Montrose Trio, and fine teacher in his own right. I've also heard some of his master classes on UA-cam, and he is one the finest gentleman in that role- no pomposity or self aggrandizement. If this sounds like hagiography, sorry, but it is true, and I must say I was blown away by his recording of the Brahms sonatas and the Schumann Five Pieces in Folk Style.
