- Here's Q-Bert's legendary winning set from the 1991 DMC US Final, the Riviera, Chicago, ripped straight from the original raw footage (which was also used for the official DMC tape).
This is the beggining of everything. The Alpha and maybe the Omega. Nothing in the world of scratch, turntablism, whatever you call it , will be the same after this performance. True legend, real innovator. His tricks on this set still looks like new even 27 years later. He become 2nd at the 1991 Dmc World Finals and I guess after finishing his performance , he could be like Marty McFly coming from the future and tell : "I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet... But your kids are gonna love it." Hahaha!!! 😃

Maybe it was a good thing that he was robbed of the world title this year, because he may have gone for 3 solo titles like Craze, and we wouldn't have got all of the team routines that he was part of.
God made it that way and we´re all happy the way it was :)
This is a legendary performance! NO DOUBT but to say it's the beginning doesn't give respect to those before, Cash Money, Miz, Cosmic Kev, Flash, Grand Master Flowers, etc
in comparison to craze, cash money or noize this is pretty boring

Back in the days when people would hide the record labels or soak them off so other dj's wouldn't know what they were playing, this guy openly showed people and made dj specific records. Invented who knows how many different scratches etc... Q-Bert is from another realm my friend.

Pretty sure i seen this on TV in the UK when I was a kid some Saturday morning TV show I would have been 9 in 91 all I know is I seen scratching on TV thought it was dope as fuck and ended up getting turntables not until I was 22 though I was a late starter but never looked back since

Anyone know if there exists tapes of Q-Bert in the late 80s? I've always wondered what he sounded like in 87'/88'.
There was a video on UA-cam of QBert in 1989 at the Expressions DJ Battle. it was a basic framework for this 1991 routine. I can't find it now.

Also I always wondered why the camera quality on these old dmc videos were hit or miss. The 1990 us finals had great quality, so did the 88 and 89 semi finals as well as 91 uk finals. But the 91 us finals look like total donkey asscheeks.
Different cameras were used at different events. I'd bet the higher tier events had more of a budget than the lower ones.
