Small tip: most flawless blockable string gaps the character says something or screams or there’s a very distinctive sound that tells you when to block, should help with the timing.
Exactly what I was going to say. Not allot of people realize this. You can also go by the sound of the hits. For example Kitanas low string into overhead ender... If you listen the fan sounds as u block, it's alot easier to flawless block.
The problem with "flawless block" is that it's automatically a flawed mechanic out of the box for including but not limited to three specific reasons. 1: The mechanic isn't realistically simple enough to execute like in INJ2. 2: You have to know the flawless block gaps of literally every character on the roster. 3: Not all characters have flawless block gaps. In conclusion, flawless block is essentially an upgraded downgraded version of push block from injustice 2.
Using flawless block against strings with gaps isn't really the main use though. Flawless blocking jump ins and counter pokes to steal your turn back is the way the meta is leaning. Don't get me wrong though, against shao kahn and Scarlett flawless blocking strings comes in handy. But most flawless block situations are pretty generalized
While I agree it has some flaws it is in game none the less, and it was never advertised as something as practical as a push block, the people that the mechanic was intended for are people that know the whole rosters frames anyways, and gaps aren’t the main thing that those players utilize the flawless block on because once you start flawless blocking a gap the player will start to use a special move or fatal blow to close said gap, and you will get punished for trying to flawless block it so it is just another layer of mind games, and is a really powerful tool to stop people abusing jump ins in a game with some of the worst anti airs yet. When you do a safe string or special move and you know they are going to take their turn you can pretty easily flawless block when they go to attack you which can make them scared to take their turns right away and let you get away with taking back a turn, so yeah it is definitely not for everyone but can be a lot of fun and exciting and their are situations where if you practice it even casual players and beginners can utilize it like flawless blocking all jump in attacks
@@issacthekid it’s easy, people don’t try it.. Just need to get the hang of it in practice and then actually do it in game, the hardest part is willingly doing it in game
@Redbenton12 You can improve your reactions, practice mode is amazing, there are no special people, even the pros (half of them are on shit during tourneys anyway) had to practice, they just practice more than most.. As long as you know what you want to improve practice mode has settings to set up every single situation possible in the game, the more time you spend practicing something the better you’ll get at it.. Making reads though is something else, that’s experience, and really you’re just straight up guessing, it’s not some kinda magic skill, just pure guessing
Flawless blocking seems harder than it actually is. Once you practice enough, you can "feel" when to flawless block. Then you'll start leveling up and flawless blocking raw things instead of just gaps.
Thank you MadDoggGames! Great vid and the specific moves/combos from various characters to use in training/practice were particularly useful. Well done!

This is a great guide. One thing I would really love to see is something like a top 10 or whatever "Best attacks to learn to flawless block" and why - it would be super informative not just about those strings but also just about the game, to say well 1. Jade's b343 string is good to learn flawless block because it's +6 on normal block and I think -10 on regular block and you can do xyz, if you flawless block it. Same with Shang's f242 and so on. Just a thought!
Mk 11 is the first mk that I’ve played online….after 400+ games I am just now finding that all of this info is extremely important if you want to dominate in the game
Im from Day 1 too and its not that hard, only certain strings you need to pay attention flawless blocking. Even if the gaps are harder to challenge sometimes, learning to flawless block to only avoid chip damage from projectiles is still important and much easier than the other approches. But that just my opinion
It's honestly just timing your block. As for the FB attacks, that's the hard part. I'm a Day 1 player and only mastered FB attacks in the last 6 months
The hard part is doing it online in non-gap strings like pokes or normal hits or the first attack of a string, easy on lab where you know WHATS coming and WHEN.
Its important as you said to watch for scorpions leg stance to know when to block that 3rd hit. That is very helpful. Body language I guess you could say. That's how I had to learn Noobs meaty combo. Visual cues. Anyways good vids man as always
Man! Such a good guide. I never thought about switching the block to the bumpers. That makes sense. I haven't tried it yet but seems like it would be more reactive. Awesome video💪

Dude legit I've had trouble with Flawless blocks and how to use actual kombos. but your two videos helped me the same with changing my gameplay settings. Thank you.
Amazing video, its the best ive seen on the topic of flawless blocking so far but in every tutorial i've not seen this mentioned anywhere but i noticed that if you flawless block an attack and punish the opponent with a normal it will do more damage than usual, for example if a standing 2 does 30 damage on its own then when its used after a flawless block for a legit punish or kounter then it will do like 34 or 36 damage (not a huge buff but hey i'll take it) so its wise to know the unique frame data because its pointless wasting meter for the launcher UP+2 when you can just save it and do a meterless combo for comparable or sometimes more damage especially with the flawless block mini buff. personally my opinion is themini buff should be buffed and do more damage buff to give it even more of a reason to be used because as it stand alot of moves can just be punished from normal blocking anyways, flawless blocking changes the frame dat of only certain moves and is inconsitent from character to character.
I've been maining Shao Kahn because he's been the character I've been comfortable with most. I would play Kabal, Rain, And Frost. But I'm used to him the most. However if Havik comes, Imma main that badass.
I fought you today on PS5 Kombat League. Geras vs Johnny 😁 Tried one time steal turn doing FB after my string ended and you started, but Up2 got beat by johnny fast punch. But I succeeded on 3rd game doing the same 😁
If you play Kombat League, you see this used more Demi God or higher. It’s not used every single time but definitely a tactic used if one person feels overwhelmed from their pressure
@@MadDoggGames thanks for seeking that out to me. Do you think its realistically a viable mechanic for online matches, considering the latency. Soul calibur has a similar mechanic and i find it unpractical.
Being a Jax main in a game where everyone is running to the opposite side of the screen and shooting, throwing, spitting, firing, emitting projectiles, I had to learn to flawless Block. I used to be so miserable when I first started. Now it's like second nature.
Flawless blocking gaps to me is very easy. Flawless blocking first hits/pokes on the other hand is kinda tricky, but I found a way to simplify it. Let's say you do a string that is -5 or less minus, maybe even plus, what you want to do after getting your string blocked is to always expect your opponent to try to start their pressure by either doing a poke, a jab, or a mid. And depending on what string they use to start their pressure is the up option you must use. If your opponent is let's say Johnny Cage and he uses his 124, you cannot do up 2 or else you will get hit, you must use up 3. Now if you flawless block the first hit of a string like Jax's F3, then you may use up 2 because the second hit will take a bit more time to come out. I also went in the lab and saw that you can steal your turn from a jail. You probably know what jailing is. You get hit by a poke and it leaves you standing up, you cannot crouch due to the hit advantage. I'm a Nightwolf main and I always do 111 or 112 after landing my down 3, if you see that you get hit by my down 3, you can inmediatly FB the first hit of my 111 string and take your turn back.
It’s not hard to do now they made it easier actually with the recent patch just get in the habit of blocking late and you’ll get it accidentally more times then you think
Flawless blocking just becomes second nature after you do it for a while. On a good day I can react to an accidental flawless block and just up2 to punish. Just gotta practice.
Μost of the strings ypu said can be interrupted by just using your fastest high...for example scorpion s 212 after 21 if he commits you just stat a combo ..same with liu and a lot more...
I can barely FB let allone attack after it, the tutorial for flawless blocks was easy but now i’m done with every other tutorial except for flawless block attacks
Bro I love ur guides my main is Johnny as well just like u, u did a guide with the @kompetitor but my problem is the dash cancels, can u pls make a tutorial about it, from the best setting to the easy and hard combos. I can pay if u wanna🙃😂
For all the people struggling with flawless blocking and scared of how hard it sounds: get the mechanics down on how to do it and you will realise you are essentially just parrying people, based on prediction. Start with flawless blocking strings with gaps, then onto flawless blocking after safe strings that are around -5,-6, where your opponent will attempt to just check you with a good mid or poke but wont have enough frames to rish using highs or other moves that wont be guaranteed. Once you get this down, the mechanic can be used veeery freely. You want your opponent to fear losing their turn again for simply trying to take their frames.
Not even third strike parry system is this difficult. In competitive mk11 I've probably only seen one flawless block in the finals. Especially with all the online tournaments going it ain't the best scene to practice it nor is it a regular move higher players use in their overall matches.
@@Strider0167 at the beginning of the game maybe, but players now use it constantly, go watch biohazard, he uses it sometimes 3 or 4 times a match or more, it isn’t difficult once you know how to do it, it is only difficult to learn at first, it is rather easy actually once you learn, and the question becomes do I want to spend 2 bars to do this? instead of, can I hit the flawless block? And just because you don’t see them doing the U2 flawless block attack doesn’t mean they aren’t flawless blocking
@@d7b50 that is exactly what I just said. It's not a thing even high end players use often because of inconsistency and due to difficulty. You repeated what I just said.

I manage to block flawless almost all moves, but by trying to press Up 2, it doesn't work. While I'm pushing the block, do I have to press up 2 or drop the block and then press UP 2 right away?
The problem is that still there's not a wifi / wired option, so you can master flawless block but with trash connections must probably you are getting hit
sucks because you gotta put so much time to get good at this...i main Shao and constantly get my ass Flawlessed i hate it...even if i do mixups his strings are easy to flawless...Great Video by the way
What's the point of spending hours of trying to perfect block when the majority of the moves have interruptable gaps. On top of that most characters have bad Flawless block launchers
One thing I think he glossed over in the video is the patch before aftermath came out which made it to where certain special moves like johnnys rising star for example if flawless blocked cannot be amplified and pokes cannot be cancelled into special moves if flawless blocked. A late game flawless block can really come in clutch especially for moves that have lots of chip damage
It’s mainly important for characters who’s move set is based around a plus frame string, I really only flawless block against jade, liu Lang, skarlet, and baraka. Doing it against the pokes or jumping kicks is really hard however if you practice flawless blocking the plus frame strings with a flawless block gap you’ll be surprised how quickly you grasp the concept
@@smoketrail3183 Yeah true but there's no point of flawless blocking plus framed attacks if they all have big ass gaps in them (example: Shao Kahn F2,4 Liu Kang F4,3 u4 Scorpion 212 and Raiden 3,2,1) you can just mash, punish dash and Fatal Blow armor me before I manage to even frame trap you and apply pressure, that's an insult to offense. In my opinion I think flawless blocking needs an overhaul. If I go for a plus frame move or a move with a gap you should only be able to flawless block it, not mash outta my pressure. If you don't flawless block then you'll have to respect it and wait for a chance to get your turn back.

Can you do a Kung Lao Step by Step Combo Guide?
I found there are two other Kanos 24 1+3 and scorpion forward 34
I manage to block flawless almost all moves, but by trying to press Up 2, it doesn't work. While I'm pushing the block, do I have to press up 2 or drop the block and then press UP 2 right away?
Flawless Block then up+2(within 0.5sec after the block is released)
I kinda now how just I don't expect it when it happens 😂
What is that scorpion skin?? 6:15
The problem is that still there's not a wifi / wired option, so you can master flawless block but with trash connections must probably you are getting hit
sucks because you gotta put so much time to get good at this...i main Shao and constantly get my ass Flawlessed i hate it...even if i do mixups his strings are easy to flawless...Great Video by the way
Kahn is too slow.
@@maxpawa9282 yea ...its sad wat NRS bitches has done to Shao...he is literally playing MK2
What's the point of spending hours of trying to perfect block when the majority of the moves have interruptable gaps. On top of that most characters have bad Flawless block launchers
Or safe specials that are difficult due to timing. It has to be predicted.
@@alexmercer3499 I agree with that actually, why put flawless block gaps if the gap is big enough that I can go for a stand one into a full combo
Helpful because till this day I can't lol
2:04 how do you do that??
A lot of players will be too busy complaining about the game to take in this valuable information.
