Greetings. My name is Beef, and today I would like to present an exceedingly excellent "your pole plant" joke. I will now begin.
Your biological pole plant is so morbidly obese, when it went to go get it's yearly physical done, the sug cat took it's blood and the results concluded that it had a high leaf density, onset type 2 diabetes, hypertension and the possibility of turning into monster kelp. It also suffers from severe depression, because it is placed on the highest point in outskirts, where it cannot communicate with more pole plants, and often has creatures walking into it because "what if?" making it more obese. Not to mention, but your pole plant is becoming so monstrous, it had a hard time fitting through connection pipes and exceeding weight limits to keep itself perfectly horizontal. Your pole plant has an endless cycle of rebirth that only makes its health worsen over time.

@@chee.rah.monurB The game runs in a way where there are no standard entrances and exits for creatures, so if they go into a den, they can effectively teleport and appear anywhere, although with reason. The pole plants were supposed to exit in different places but they just exited in the same den...
They give each other equal proportions so they all grow very big

Now I'm imagining an open world game where the edge isn't an ocean where a monster eats you or an impassable range of mountains, but a devastated wasteland where when you walk into it, a bunch of hand-like enemies spawn and try to drag you underground, killing you. It would be absolutely terrifying and interesting to see how long one could survive there

If u decide to leave the crater massive ghost leviathans hunt you down, you can technically go on forever running but it’s pretty hard. Also I know what you meant, just an inescapable cutscene where you get eaten isn’t fun

@@TheElevenFirst Oh the Subnautica void is in my opinion one of the best map barriers ever + the ghost leviathans are cool as fuck, I was thinking more like in Spore when if you go 5 meters off the coast you get eaten instantly lol (although that's the most logical and fitting barrier, but it would've been cool if it wasn't always the same creature eating you)

As somebody who's least favorite enemy is the pole plant because of the way it moves and imagining how it could function as an actual being in reality, this makes me feel an immense amount of discomfort.

If pole plants were real they wouldn't be able to be pole plants. Since they're prehensile instead of woody, it would take energy to stand straight up or hang horizontally. Being a stationary ambush predator, using that much energy at rest is a no no. They'd either have to exclusively hang upside down or be creeping plants like strawberries. Or be aquatic.
@@chaotixthefox Unless they sonehow evolved to negate the tradeoff or the effectiveness of the guise compensates for the waste of energy, I mean, someone said they can eat vultures so their muscle sure is ripped to stand still against gravity for extended amounts of time. Either way, if it's to be true it's even more terrifying
@@ncrranger6327 There are real plants that have a similar game plan and can even bear some resemblance to an opened pole plan, they are much smaller and more rigid(thus don't have to actively fight gravity), and the only movement they make is to furl up when something lands on them and unfurl when it's gone. They're called sundews.
@@ncrranger6327 these pole plants seem to fold and wrap itself incredibly tightly like a fine rope. I can imagine it having a strong enough stem that with help of the leaves, can harden itself, and those leaves being lighter but grabby, kinda like Fern leaves.
Not too much weight, yet enough strength and endurance. It just looks heavier than it really is, like how it can look bigger when unfolded.
We already have plants in our world like flytraps that can move their own bodies, it's probably possible for a plant to stiffen without having to waste energy to hold itself put. Like weaving tons of fiber into itself until it's like a stick.
Trying to avoid spoilers for this game only intrigues me more, the most i know about this game are the Green Lizard things and next i see, there's a horrific primordial being, only shackled by the fact that it is a "plant" and stuck to a wall.
You have to play this game, its insanely good

They're carnivorous plants that camouflage themselves as the poles and pipes the slugcat(the player character) climbs on, so you mistakingly grab one, and it wraps around you, but they're not supposed to be that big, and usually don't flair up that far away

I think it would take more calories to attack a batfly than you gain from eating it (as the pole plant, because it has so many muscles that it needs to use)

Pole plants start showing up in multiples when your cycle count gets really high on Survivor. I started seeing double and triple plants sometime after cycle 300.

Never played this game, first time seeing this enemy, HOLY SHIT, IS THIS ACTUAL NIGHTMARE FUEL FOR ME.
Edit a whole ten months later: I saw what they usually look like. Still nightmare fuel. Then I found out about the Daddy Long Legs. I would love to play this game, rumoured harsh difficulty be damned, but the shit in that world is Scary.
If it helps, these things never actually get this big. Or even half this big. And there's 3 of them layered on top of each other. Now please, play the game
