I've finally got the any% speedrun world record after working so hard for it :)
Solid run, but lots of mistakes throughout. Either way, I'm happy to finally have the world record, I will take a break now.
I got lots of runs with WR potential before but none of them got anywhere until today. Good luck to any runner who attempts to break this record, the Any% category has a lot more potential.
If you are interested in Rain World speedruns you should give them a try, the movement mechanics of this game are very fun.

AND USEFUL INFORMATION ABOUT RAIN WORLD SPEEDRUNNING
Disclaimer: Please do not follow this video as if it was a guide/demonstration on your first playthrough, you will most likely get stuck. Try to play the through game normally and then you can learn to speedrun it. If you still want a quick way to beat it for the first time, you should follow Pebbles% or Intended% runs as they are more straightforward with no glitches needed.
Q: Why aren't there any guardians? (Big X TV Head Creatures)
A: There is a glitch used to despawn the guardians by interrupting the load, if you pay attention you will notice that in the room right before the guardians I did an extended slide to go back to the previous room after walking to the center to trigger the load of the guardians room. The trick works by interrupting the load of the room the guardians are in.
There are other methods to skip the guardians but they are less reliable/slower or require a detour. Edit: The exact method portrayed in this video doesn't work anymore in the current version, but others do. Q: What version of the game are you playing?
A: I'm playing on 1.5 on this video, you can play this version by going to your Steam Library, right clicking on Rain World -> Properties -> Betas -> Select legacy on the dropdown menu. You should play this version if you intend on doing the exact same glitch I used to skip the guardians.
Q: How do you increase your karma without getting more food each cycle?
A: This is an exploit called karma caching, it consists of sleeping normally, then using the starve mechanic instantly in the next cycle and exiting during the 30 second grace period, then repeating the process until the desired amount of karma is reached. Q: What's up with the roll button?
A: I use virtual controller (I'm a keyboard player) in order to input a specific angle to do a different kind of roll called the fast roll (this roll is faster, allows you to pick objects while rolling, and it can be initiated from a 1 tile drop), which is why you can see I have a roll button in my input display and why you see a controller on my pause screen. This is allowed and many runners do this. IMPORTANT: If you are playing in the current version of the game I'd recommend getting the fast roll button mod from the Steam Workshop instead: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2954863557
Q: Why does the time end before the ending cutscene/credits?
A: The time used to end when you see the "Loading..." on the bottom left before the cutscene. This was changed and currently time ends when you enter the last room where the camera follows you because the swim section of the room is completely RNG based due to the void worms pushing you up or down. The old timing is still listed on Speedrun.com as "Time with loads".

Having a really tough time getting the despawning guardians glitch to work. Can you only do this on the first attempt, or can you continue trying if the guardian still spawns?
@@casual2694 Make sure you turn around and do the eslide right at the center of the room, jump near the end of the surface and tap left to go down smoothly without getting stuck. You can go back to the middle of the wide room to unload the guardian room and attempt the despawn again if you mess up but this isn't really something I'd recommend as a backup strat, I'd rather recommend the hazer skip as a backup, here's a video that explains it: bit.ly/3HgJWFZ
You should definitely bring the hazer with you if you're a beginner, you will be able to finish more runs and practice the lower depths segments more often that way.
You can find it in the room to the right of the room shown at 4:22 in this video, a very small detour.

For anyone that doesn't know, this game is *_HARD._*
If you tried to play it right now, you'd be moving at about half this speed (and I mean just normal movement speed, not even getting into knowing the route, or the fact that you'd have been eaten by any of the numerous lizards he rolled into. They are not nice). Normally, slugcats are as their name describes: rather sluggish. This is crazy

This speedrun is crazy! It took me a while and seeing a couple mistakes to confirm it wasn't a TAS lol. I don't think I'll ever master all those speed tricks (even the jumping on poles is a bit too tricky for me), but I'll still play it again on Survivor (and maybe buy Downpour afterwards).

@@Axol_N_Krimm So, I managed to reach FP through CC on Survivor, but FP forced me back to the wall. I somehow managed to find a stickbug to shortcut through Underhang (I wanted to get a neuronfly for LTTM), but I kept dying because for some reason I can't swing or reel the stickbug in, and if I don't make it on the first try, I'm doomed. I almost made it to the next screen, but the scug didn't grab the pole and jumped past it and into the pit, and I ragequit. I haven't found the strength to come back to the game yet lol
I am shivering rn, if you can complete this boiler room of a game in just 12 minutes, then I just refuse to imagine how fast you would go with the rivulet campaign.

not too fast, you have to cover significantly more distance in the riv campaign, most of it underwater
@@tjr_ezrawhat you don’t understand is that you can ascend as rivulet. So technically speaking, this run would be faster with rivulet.

this run is amazing congrats!! There's definitely some spots where a couple seconds could have been saved which keeps it interesting for other people wanting to attempt this challenge, and it's super entertaining too
Yeah! This run can be so much better. To give an example, personally I'm better at the first half of Any% and the best pace I've got in a run on the split of getting to the Subterranean karma gate is 6:06 (in this run it's 6:21 in that split), and that is not even close to what the actual best possible time would be, sub 6 is definitely doable in that split.
For the second half it can be improved even more, maybe completely rerouting the movement of some rooms rather than just being more precise.
So much potential for this category, I hope more people try it out :)
@@sunx2d there were a few missed jumps and areas where movement could have been better optimized, and getting caught on terrain seems like a huge pain as it wastes 0.2 seconds and happens a lot, but you still did amazing! So many frame perfect movement its a shame not everything went perfectly. it's definitely beatable and I'm confident you can outdo this run too :D
@@_z_873 Yeah, this run wasn't particularly great but it was world record only because the lower depths splits of my previous PB were very weak so there was a lot of room for easy time saves there. Hopefully I can improve it but for now I'm trying out some different stuff in this game :)

There were multiple times where lizards would block the entry of a hole, I for sure thought that those occasions were gonna be a game ender but you just slided underneath them like they weren't even there! I don't even speedrun, but if a lizard would block my path like that I would for sure gotten eaten right there HAHA

I wish this game had more attention to it. Loved the run though, amazing stuff. This game is just so underrated, and I feel like there's so much speedrunning potential too, for a lot of different categories. Unfortunately there isn't a big enough playerbase to have a large speedrunning presence... I might try my hand at a speedrun at some point if I can master the movement system, but I don't think I could ever get to this level

It's sadly bound to be rather obscure due to its unique design choices... If it was less obtuse, it wouldn't be as effective an experience, yet most people can't be bothered with the kind of mental work and perceptiveness it takes for this game to open up. On top of that, it's a western game with a plot built pretty much entirely around eastern religion and philosophy. But it really is a rare and amazing kind of game and I wouldn't want it any other way.

I'll be honest with you, I'm obsessed with this game. I would have bought it straight away if the developers hadn't made it sadistically hard. I can't do hard games that make you retrace your steps over and over because I'm no longer in my 20s and can't play for hours on end. I only have an hour and half in the evening and I'd rather play a game that allows me to make progress.

The game is great too, so atmospheric. Love that Void Sea thing, just imagine being in the endless glowing substance surrounded by enormous size worms, slowly loosing your body and transcending.
I wish there were another games like this, but have not found anything besides Signalis. Really cool game too, should try it if u like Rain World lore.

I’ve always loved watching speedruns for the crazy movement tech they pull off, and after reading every page of the movement tech document I knew rain world would be good
I finished a monk run yesterday in 6 hours, (Downpour is finally out on switch and I had to beat a regular run first to unlock the new slugcats) and I felt pretty good about that and it got me curious what speedruns are like for this game. Surely this game isn't actually possible to beat in a "speedy" amount of time and it would take at least a couple hours to have the best time.

had no clue there was even a way down through subterranean that goes AROUND the guardians.
Well, there is no path that goes around the guardians, you always have to go through the room that has two guardians in it.
I despawned them using the trick that I explain in the pinned comment.

Between subterranean and shoreline there are 3 blue orbs. They flash bang when thrown. I would recommend taking 2 of them and finding the quickest save point. For me I went left and used the save under the train.
From there now you have 2 blue orbs permanently in your safe house. Put one in your mouth and grab a spear and make your way all the way down to the depths.
You need the spear to use as a ledge against the wall just before the guardians. Or else you won’t be able to get up and over that way.
Once you get to the guardians run past the first one, flash bang the other two, and flash bang the last one and jump over and into the ground like op did.
I got rainworld about a week ago and I’m watching this all surprised because I didn’t even know 90% of these routes existed 😭 (I’m still at the first weird thing before the filtration system)

Well, it's not unavoidable but this run isn't optimal since it isn't competitive enough, there aren't many people running this category. So obviously it's going to be far from perfection, games that are more competitive are much closer to perfection

all regions are woven together in different ways, there isnt really even an official path to go

Well, it could be considered "easy" depending on how you look at it and what you compare it to, but yeah I agree, this game isn't very flashy in a visual sense when it comes to speedrun techniques, compared to something like celeste for example where you just build so much momentum you basically fly all over the place and jump on spikes and whatnot, and it's immediately obvious it is a speedrun, whereas in this game it could look like a normal playthrough to someone who's never played it.

I'm pretty confused as to how you activate that roll button thing. Heck if I had a button to press to roll automatically it would be pretty funky.

This was one of the first rain world videos I had seen and it was extremely confusing. I assumed that Outskirts was some sort of city of sorts and that Drainage System was some sort of sewer.
can someone tell me PLS WHOW TO PASS THE GUARDIANS, I DONT KNOW WHOW TO DO THAT GLITCH AND I AM DESSESPERATED, I ALREADY BOUGHT THE NEW DLC, BUT I CAN NOT PLAY AS THE NEW SLUG CATS
I’m not sure how to do that glitch but normally to get through them you need to get the highest maximum karma that is possible.

interresting run, i don´t know anything about it just bought the game. as far as i can see, you can bug out the cycle by sleeping and reloading the game couple of times. after that bug the game doesn´t spawn enemys in this area... impresiv cheese dude
That's actually not how it works, the creatures spawn as normal. The starve quits are done in order to increase karma and don't affect creature spawns at all.

Hello! My saves are messed up and I would like to go through the game the same way as the author. but the guards, who are not in the video, do not allow me to pass. please tell me how to get rid of them!! :(
You need to get max karma by speaking to Five Pebbles (he is super far away from the ending area so you need to backtrack quite a lot)
Did the same speedrun but there's no entry to the next room past the guardians, Kept pushing me out, does that mean they changed that part on downpour and you can't speedrun it anymore? or is it just because I got past the guardians without using the glitch trick?
The exact method I used for guardian skip in this video does not work anymore. The hazer skip and the slightly slower despawn method still work though (I haven't tested the slow despawn in the new version but I've heard it works), I can link you to some resources if you don't know what those are.
And yes, you can't get past the guardians normally, that's the purpose of their existence.

Hay is the Guardian skip still possible in the news version of the game I tried it in an older version like 1.0.0 i think and i got it pretty easily but I just tried in the news version like 10+ times without a single success if you cud let me know it wud be a big help
You can't go back directly now, you need to go to the room to the right, then go back and then keep progressing

is this a route just bypassing every part of the game? I've literally never seen any of these screens after you get into the filtration system. I've never fully finished the game (played a bunch when it first came out) and just now started looking into content for the game. wtf this game is huge
This game is huge indeed, especially now since Downpour came out. I really love every region of this game and I hope I can do some Downpour speedruns soon when I have some free time.

0:46 how do you do this? backflip and then grab the pole and do the jump twice? I tried but it didn't work. Maybe it was because my character was Monk?
Basically you press jump three times with specific timing, one for the backflip, one for a pole boost, and one for an air hop. It's really hard, I would give a more detailed explanation on it but I don't even remember how to do it, it's just muscle memory at this point, so pay attention to my inputs and visual cues and practice a lot if you want to do it, it took me like 3 days to get the hang of it. I might be stupid, i was going this route and decided to turn around, had no idea i was heading for the end of the game
It's not the route you should take since you need to perform a somewhat difficult skip to beat the game this way, and also you need to navigate a dark area without a lantern or body glow if you just go there directly

If i may, around 2:40-2:50 you have reloaded the game twice, what exactly is the purpose of this strat, if it even is one :o
I was doing something called karma caching, with this technique I can very easily and quickly gain karma without even leaving the shelter.

External software called nohboard, but you can do it with a mod too

It took me 1 day to go to Shaded Citadel and i dont even know why im there...
I have a 5 hour run of the game and i havent even figured out how to get to any of the endings. Im so lost i made it across the ocean and met the blue one, so lost that i ended up in places i shouldn't have been. I dont think ill ever actually beat the game...

I explain it in the pinned comment. This roll provides many benefits: it's faster, you can pick up objects while rolling, and you can start it from a 1 tile drop.
