    • @Arabic101

      The word 'jannah' and 'jinn' come from the same root جنن which refers to something that is hidden and unseen.. That's why jinn are called jinn, because they cannot be seen, and that's why jannah is called Jannah because it is hidden from us until after the Day of Judgement.

    When there is a shadda after a long vowel (like alef, wow, or ya) does the ling vowel become short? For example in fatihah the final verse, the dhad in the final word, how do uou pronouce the alef in walaa right before that it seems many imams pronounce it as fatha not alef

    • @Arabic101
      @Arabic101  8 місяців тому

      When shaddah comes after a long vowel, the long vowel will be elongated (not shortened)
      This is a case called (madd lazim) in the study of tajweed.

    • @Arabic101
      @Arabic101  3 роки тому

      Asslamo alikom,
      Wherever you use shaddah, you must use a short vowel on top or under. What you might have seen could be that the shaddah had kasra, and the kasra was not put under the shaddah sign itself, but under the letter. Then it would seem like there a shaddah without short vowels.

      That is correct, in the Quran you will find it under the word, but that is the exact same effect.

      @Arabic101  3 роки тому +1

      Asslamo alikom,
      This lesson is for beginners, and as a beginner it's clearer to have it above the shaddah, then the signs are in the same spot, and you don;t have to look for it. But under the letter is also correct when you become more intermediate, just a different style.

    Why do you use both the short and long vowel in the word ommi? Why not just use one?

    • @Arabic101
      @Arabic101  9 місяців тому

      In order for a long vowel to exist, it MUST be preceded by a letter that has a short vowel of the same sort.
      So أمِي has the م with kasrah, which enables the long vowel ي to be a long vowel.
      That's why in Arabic, we can't start with a long vowel, because there must be a letter before it.
      Hope this makes sense.
