I was a Porsche Factory Trained mechanic at a dealership in Seattle when these came out. Between my 74 year old memory and your fantastic work - I officially declare this to be a BEA YOU TEA. Fine work - I like when it all comes together in the end. Thanks for sharing...
Well done. Always loved Porsches. The 911, 912, 914, 928, 935, 944, 356, etc etc. The 928 model being their first V8 front engine was unique simply for that reason and it's styling. Especially their colors from the 80s. That Champagne color was a fantastic color along with their Ice Blue and most notably their Porsche Guards Red.
I remember seeing a lot of these back in the 1980s..the 928, 911, 944, 959, 956, & the 962 are my favorite models of Porsches..as always great build👍👍👍😊😊😊
I got the original one from the early '80s I believe. Remember I was disappointed when I opened the box and have been thinking about selling it since. But seeing your build proves you can end up with a great looking car so I might keep it after all. The decals in this new reissue is so much better than the one I have it is not even close.
aahhh, now that's my line of kits. for some reason I just love the larger scale kits, the ones I've done were very well detailed, just the way I like 'em! awesome chris, keep 'em coming!!
I am drooling! I fell in love with Porsche thanks to this car in Risky Business. I was a fan of Porsche before I even read anything about them, lol! I love the larger scale, truly a great model; you did a fantastic job!
Nice kit of the 928... I remember building Tamiya's 928 ages ago.. handsome looking car.. the film, of course, brings back lots of memories :) Great build as usual.
Beautiful build...I just finished the Tamiya 928 kit and if I had known I would have preferred this one. The Tamiya kit is the European version and I had to modify it to a US version. Two things about the kit; The rear valance is incorrect. The US version had 2 black bumper guards on each side of the license plate, which I don't see in this kit. Second, although it looks great blacked out, the Porsche logo on the rear bumper is body color and not blackened in. All in all you did a great job on a beautiful car.
Great build; amazing finish on that gold. Build this with some Tangerine Dream on in the background? That's how I'm going to build mine when I get one. Thanks for sharing.
Chris, that was an awesome Porsche! Loved the detail! I've done a couple of 1/16 Monogram Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks and I must say the larger parts do make it a lot easier to detail and build! Excellent work as always!!
Another fantastic build Chris! I have yet to watch Risky Business. I see you used Molotow markers for panel line color. The Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color can also be used to darken panel lines. I use that stuff often. Happy building!
Awesome build!!! I've never done a car model before, this will be my first one when I get it. Thanks for doing such entertaining vids, they are spot on fun to watch!!!
You Do Awesome work Sir. I Build the Large Scale 1/350 Size Scale Star Trek Models with L. E. D Lighting. I always wanted a Model of this Car. Growing up in the 80's . Reveal and the other companies never made a model of this car, even in this size. I'm glad they finally released it. Your build looks so real. I am Subscribing to your channel. Thanks for making the Video. I saw this kit at my local hobby shop and plan on picking it up. Vic......
Awesome as always Chris! Thanks for the Facebook invite buddy, very cool site!! I never built a bigger scale than 1/24th... Gotta get me one and detail the crap out of it (my eyes are going) Thx. for the build and great review man 🏁🏁👍
Beautiful job as usual, Chris! I'm just starting a kit I got from Amazon. It's AMT 's " Double Header " 27 foot van trailers. I'm gonna build them as the Consolidated Freightways trailers. I just finished AMT 's White Freightliner DD/SD 2 in 1 semi truck. I built that as the SD truck in the Consolidated Freightways truck which I dubbed "Shorty".
Really cool Chris! It would be interesting to Dremel out the wheels and see how well the rotor decals look on that plate. I actually have the 2 original versions of this kit from 1980 I think. Funny you should mention making a rally version because one of the originals was a rally version with ground effects and a whale tail! I imagine I will ride your wave and post a review on those 2 kits. Also, it doesn't appear as though the movie car had a sunroof, but who cares. Nice nice representation of the car altogether.

Just finished building this kit. My only complaint is the clear parts are so dark that the windshield and headlight looks like they have limo tints on them. Otherwise it's a fantastic looking kit which doesn't require a huge amount of effort to build.
Man another great model turned out I've only done 1:32,1:38,1:48,1:24 and 1:25th scale how is it easier or harder to do a 1:16th scale another great video!!
I'd be interested to know about your dry times with those spray cans. Lately I've been using an airbrush with those enamels and adding Japan Drier - perfectly dry the next day.
Risky business was a funny film even with tom cruise in it. Porsche 928 was ahead of time in design & other car manufacture tried to copy the design but failed. This kit is best by revell but there's another made by tamiya which is hard to find by online, but anyways superb build.

I have a Porsche 928 rally I'm building now .it has a black body.gray interior.10/3/4long.it's my winter project.and and I have a Ford panel van also it's a m,p,c.1/20 th.scale.painted blue/with Brown interior it's a 1980 model never finished. So many small parts.still have to build it yet.

Again, 1/16 is too big for the space I have. I do hope that they do a 1/24 or 1/25 version of that kit as well as of the 356 you've shown a couple of weeks (months?) ago. Once more, you made a great build.
Wyatt from Weird Science also had the same exact Porsche in silver...all you would need is an eighties Illinois license plate that says WYATT and call it good!

Chris if you got a small roll of leather wat you do is mesher it up to the seat's cut it to shape then put sum glue on the seats and the back seat a the you can do the interea in real lether

Love your vids. I am addicted to watching your builds. I have a question. I have a problem finding rustoleum 2x. Home Depot has it but in limited colors. Can I use regular rustoleum?
14:20 Do you put on the gloss paint before painting the recessed letters? Also, how did you achieve such a nice and glossy finish (22:50)? It looks so nice!!
We can see that I painted it before I did the letters. Gloss is achieved with Pledge Floor Shine, I've shown it in multiple videos in the past, including the Concept Camaro video. Thanks for watching! facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Obviously I'm not the HPI Guy but it depends on the glue you use some are designed for polystyrene bond only so you will have to scrape the mating surfaces down to the raw plastic before glue. Hope I've helped in any way?

Yes, it's just less forgiving on paint if you screw up. The markers wipe off so nice and clean when I slip, and I slip a lot.
What a fun video, this brought back some good memories. I forgot about Guido the Killer Pimp

Europe on the box, US in my build. They use different side lights.
Hmmm, that is the second 1:16 scale Porsche. I wonder if they will continue this with the rest of their cars.....I'd love to build a 1:16 918 Spyder.

Nice work.
But he's got a bond he can cash to pay for it!
Sweet build. I need me a set of those markers. Hey whats the ozarks ish soundin banjo song you often play in the videos?
Random tracks from YT free music site. Feel free to browse it and download tons of their stuff.
Thanks for watching the video, much appreciated!

Love your vids. I am addicted to watching your builds. I have a question. I have a problem finding rustoleum 2x. Home Depot has it but in limited colors. Can I use regular rustoleum?
Regular Rusto works fine but sometimes takes much longer to dry, days in many cases.
@@hpiguy Thank you

14:20 Do you put on the gloss paint before painting the recessed letters? Also, how did you achieve such a nice and glossy finish (22:50)? It looks so nice!!
We can see that I painted it before I did the letters.
Gloss is achieved with Pledge Floor Shine, I've shown it in multiple videos in the past, including the Concept Camaro video.

hpiguy, how do you paint then glue?
Obviously I'm not the HPI Guy but it depends on the glue you use some are designed for polystyrene bond only so you will have to scrape the mating surfaces down to the raw plastic before glue. Hope I've helped in any way?
Yes, actually, you have! Thanks!
I use super glue, as shown in a lot of the videos. A little drop holds fine.
Do you ever do any flocking with your models? If you don't know it's a powder used for making a carpet look a bit more realistic.
Sometimes, but these aren't show builds, they are just simple, fast, out of box reviews.
Great video , can any one tell me the gold used on MPC 1979 firebird 1 16th kit on the box thanks for any help
Just grab one that you like the looks of. Every color varies based on who, when, where and under what lights and angle someone took the pics.
Did you use acrylic paint on the lettering of the hood?
For the Porsche logo in the back? I used black craft paint, yes.
Is there an option to raise the headlamps? I wasn't paying attention if there was something to put the headlamps in the raised position.....
Yup
Looks like a AMC pacer
