Trains, trams and buses at Box Hill - Melbourne Transport

- In this video we see trains, trams and buses at Box Hill, a busy transport interchange in Melbourne's east built on Box Hill Central Shopping Centre. First we see Comeng and X'trapolis trains at Box Hill station built below the shopping centre, the only underground station in Melbourne not located in the City Loop. It's also the last station in Melbourne to use CRT screens for passenger information, and has a disused platform which was used during the station's construction.
We then move outside where we see some C1 Class trams (Alstom Citadis) at the tram stop, the eastern terminus of tram route 109. We then move upstairs inside the shopping centre where we find the bus interchange. There we see buses operated by National Bus Company and Ventura including MAN 16.220's, 16.240's, SL200 and Scania L94UB's, K230UB's and a K280UB. The bus interchange is one of Melbourne's busiest with 20 routes passing through here. All the National Bus Company buses seen in this video are today operated by Transdev.

Watching these videos give me nostalgia from when I was 3-5
I just visited Melbourne, my girlfriend lives in Box Hill so it's nice being able to recognise almost everything in the video, I hope to go again soon :) loved the trams, reminded me of the trolleybusses we used to have here in Wellington. I love Melbourne, great city 💚

They might be running hcmt trains on the Ringwood group lines in the future. Not exactly certain but it might happen

It's one of my favourite stations in Melbourne even though it looks dated, has poor street access, no toilets and has a bus interchange that smells like fish. It's nevertheless one of Melbourne's most interesting stations because it's underground and the history behind it including the disused platform 1 and the CRT screens. The bus interchange is a good place in peak hour to hunt some of Transdev's MAN SL200's.
You mean the other man bus on 903 which is not the bubble bus. Oh yeah forgot the say about your nice catch of the 3 car xtrap. Suppose that was supposed to be on an Alamein shuttle, but a change in service.

No they're the MAN 16.220's. I'm talking about the MAN SL200, the really old bus that Transdev still use. A yellow one appears in this video, bus #264. The 3 car trains are those that run the Alamein shuttles during the day. Around 3pm they head towards Flinders Street with one forming a 3 car train to Blackburn, as you've seen in this video.

good old comengs running the lilydale and belgrave line which passes box hill station. now, there are no more comengs running on those two lines!!!! i miss them so much. hopefully i can ride one eventually

They don't run on glen Waverley, alemain, Hurstbrdige and south morang very often either. Those lines are the hillside network with pretty much only xtrapolis's run on.
Wow, I saw a comeng train at camberwell yesterday. They are very rare.
Yea I heard one Comeng managed to escape onto the Burnley group yesterday. It was also spotted running a service on the Glen Waverley line.
So does comeng trains still run on the lilydale/Belgrave line?

On the Belgrave Line by 2025, the level crossing at Bedford Road, Ringwood will be grade separated with the rail line lowered under the road into a rail trench.
And on the Lilydale Line by 2025, the 3 level crossings at Cave Hill Road, Coolstore Road and Dublin Road will be grade separated. For Cave Hill Road they will close it off to divert traffic and build a pedestrian underpass beneath the rail line. And they are building an elevated rail bridge with a new elevated Croydon Station to remove the level crossing at Coolstore Road and they will be lowering the rail line under Dublin Road in Ringwood East into a rail trench with a new Ringwood East Station.

Box Hill these days is overruned by eshays but not as much as Ringwood station/Eastland

It's just the way the camera was recording them as the screens and the camera project and record at different frame rates. The green you saw though was real.
Sadly after many years of faithful service these ancient CRT screens are currently being replaced with more modern LCD screens.

This was recorded in January last year, the days when there were still some Comeng's around on the Burnley group and the days when the buses didn't have PTV livery on them.

@@johno3113 the led screen just had smaller text and is less bold. Also has 2-3 seating layout if you look closely.
