It definitely is a great stress relief. I started crocheting after we had to put down our little pup a few years ago and it helped me manage my grief as well.
As part of my work day, I can get coffee, pee, get supplies, etc. I don’t have to set up the paper, pens, whatever else I’ll need before clocking in. But a fun concept to see. Thanks! 🧶🧶🧶🧶👍
I crochet about 8 hours a day or more and it has actually recently caught up to me. It’s caused such stiffness in my neck and shoulders that I’ve had a migraine since last Thursday. I finally got some relief today from my doctor.
I Crochet practically all day everyday and all through the night and lately until day break. I know that's not good and I need my rest but it's just that I love to Crochet so much that it's hard for me to put it down.
I understand loving to crochet, and that hit of dopamine and sense of accomplishment when you complete a project. But it's important to take regular breaks, stretch your body ( especially wrists and fingers that get cramped from overuse. ), get regular sleep , get outside and not isolate. This enjoyable activity has become an addiction, and I worry about your physical and mental health. Talk to a loved one and/or health professional about steps you can take to balance your lifestyle. I know there are people in your life that want the very best for you. ( including the crocheting community! ) Please reach out and take care.
@@christinefrier7888 I Thank You so Much for Your concerns and You are so right. I truly appreciate You very much. It has affected me already because by me not getting enough sleep....sometimes it makes me feel very dizzy and also I'm sitting in the same spot for hours which isn't good at all because my legs become stiff and that's not good at all. Thank You again for being concerned. Blessings to You and Your family.
Yes but Ok so I gotta come clean…this is my youngest daughter and she’s a senior. I thought I’d do this as a senior year/last kiddo at home thing. As my girls were growing up I’d add a note sporadically but not everyday. I’m doing one daily for her senior year!!
I love the video concept, but if I can offer one piece of feedback, it would be that the music overlay in the video is quite loud and the place where you’re speaking is low. Making the video difficult to watch because I have to turn it up to hear your voice, but turn it down because of the blasting music.
Thank you so much for the feedback. I will definitely need to figure out the music settings on iMovie. And also in need to watch back my video before posting to make sure the sound is ok. It’s a learning process for sure!
I definitely don't think people understand the energy that goes into crafting. It takes a lot out of you. This has been a fun, interesting video! Thanks for taking the time! 😂
You’re totally right! And you’re welcome for the video. It was a good test but I definitely am not going to make a habit of crocheting for 8 hours. It was a lot.
This was a really interesting video. Not to rain on your parade (honestly!) but you'd also need to factor in the cost of materials which would affect how much you're 'charging' in labor for each item. Absolutely adorable end-result and super fair sale prices. I wish I was this crafty and talented :)
Totally hear ya on factoring cost of materials and would if I was considering doing crochet as a full time and legit business…but it’s def a hobby for me! Mainly do it to spend time with my teenagers when we do markets.
@craftymompreneur that’s so nice- and something you can’t put a price on! Enjoy the time with your family- they must be super proud of what you can do 😊
The trouble with trying to charge people for the hours is that your finished projects would be so overpriced that no one would actually buy them. It’s such a personal thing regardless of how long it takes to complete an item that it’s next to impossible to be fair about it, one person working at one speed , someone else at another. Your speed really really varies depending upon so so many variables.
First time viewer, I had to see how it turned out. People that don't crochet or knit really have no idea how long a project takes. It is an art and difficult to put a price on. Good luck to you!
Thank you so much. You're so right about that. When I tell people at markets how long stuff takes they are usually really shocked it takes that long. Then there are some who are surprised I can get a smaller project done is a shorter time frame.
I have crocheted so many toys over the years, but I would never get the money that you say you would get for your work, in the UK………people would not pay those sort of prices, way too expensive…….but I would be over the moon if they did !!!!! 😊
If you give your stuff as gifts I’m sure people love them. Maybe if you found a good market or place to sell you’d be surprised. Although, I’ve heard that the UK has quite a few rules for selling toys or crochet items too but I m not sure as I’ve never sold anything there.
I am absolutely delighted to have found your channel today! I love watching you and i cannot wait to watch you grow even more. Also, the hair tip is such a life saver, and I'll have to try it!
Thank you. I really appreciate you doing this because it is something I’ve bin considering myself. I’m at home almost 24/7 bc I’m disabled. I’ve crocheted for just over a year but still consider myself a beginner because 1. I’m so slow 😂, 2. I don’t crochet all the time. I take long long breaks. 3.ive only sold a few things. I’ve mostly made either gifts or just crocheting to learn and teach myself a new pattern. It wasn’t until just recently that I decided I wanted to take my hobby to the next lecture level and committed to my 1st market 🎉. Now hopefully with time management I can actually make things to sell😂😂😂
One thing to consider on the larger one is that you had never done it before so it did eat up time to figure it out. If it was something you were already used to you could do faster
I recently crocheted for hours for several days in a row to make a lap blanket for a sick friend. Gave myself tennis elbow and had to take a week off to recoup 😢
Love your video but need to be subtracted the material first before counting a per hour value of your work. I crochet a lot but I do clothing. I never did an animal crochet.
I definitely hear ya on calculating material cost but I don't have an accurate amount for how much I paid for the yarn (I always buy yarn on sale) or how much yarn was used in the project so I'm not sure how'd I'd do that.
@@craftymompreneur I see. Here in uk we have some sales too but I don’t make a crochet animals instead I made clothing. I’ve used a lot more yarn in one item.
I use the crochet for fun and then life happened and I. Crocheted to support my kids full-time. I crochete and me personally when you do something for fun and it has to become a job. It's no fun anymore. I'd rather keep it fun. Have I been that way?
I have my next one in October that’s a full 10x10 booth so I have some prepping to do as well. Is this your first market of the season or do you do them year round?
Those are so cute. My question: what can you actually sell those for? Most people will purchase something from a box store much cheaper than what we want to sell our crocheted items for.
If I were doing crafts for a job, I wouldn't figure an hourly wage. I would figure a daily wage. But, considering you are home, no commute, and available to the family if needed, 16.88/hour isn't bad. And working projects at salable price points like $5, $10 & $20 would be a better use of time. And I would do a day dedicated to one item, like your alligator. Making as many alligators as I can in one day, etc. that way you wouldn't use up time moving from one set of supplies and tools to another.
@@charisseproffitt3653 I love that idea of how many x can I make in a day. Adding that to my list of video ideas as I gear up for holiday market prep!! Thanks soooo much for your comment!!
@@craftymompreneur I also wouldn't worry about costs of goods, etc. I would figure out, item A will sell for $10ea. at $100/day, I need to make 10. If that goes as planned, then I would attempt to get my costs down to increase profits. It isn't worth it to me to spend my precious time on math.
Yes but you only make that IF you sell the stuff you make. If it doesnt sell then you made less money. You need to actually keep records of how long a item takes to make and if you sell it to get a more accurate idea of what you make at the markets against what time you spend doing it. Also count the time you spend at market, setup, driving and all. I have a friend who found out she was making 3 dollars an hour for her crochet business. And that didnt even include the cost of yarn deducted from her total take home.

For this challenge I did not because I crochet more as a hobby than for a business. To make a livable wage I feel people wouldn’t pay for what it would actually cost!
I think the you should be charging more for your items! Your custom plushie should be $90 to $100 and the other items you made should sell for $25 to $30 dollars. You should be compensated for your time in terms of a living wage. I realize people here in the USA 🇺🇸 are use to buying mass produced items cheaply.
