Bulgaria is very underrated and I think you guys have done a better job showing it to the world than anyone else on UA-cam. Terrific! It's important to give exposure to lesser known parts of Europe. There's so much to see in Bulgaria as you guys have shown. Keep up the good work!
Many years ago I was smitten by a woman who received a Fulbright grant to teach in Sofia. I went to visit her and she knew I liked history so we spent a weekend in Veliko Turnovo. It was so long ago that these memories feel like they belong to someone else

Veliko Tarnovo is my hometown and the place on Gurko Str where you guys dined at was my parent's go-to for impressing out-of-town guests. Their food and service has been impeccable for probably over 20 years now :) Thank you for showing a bit of Bulgaria 💓

You (probably) missed the stunning views from the Monument of Assen where you can see almost the entire old city from below and the mini-Bulgaria sculpture just down by the town combining Bulgaria's famous landmarks and the quite close nearby village of Arbanassi and town of Tryavna. When you mentioned British retirees, that is true as in the nearby area many of them bought houses when Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007 and in the whole VT region you are highly likely to bump into those. Bulgaria is a humble choice for them to retire because of the peace and quiet and low prices, good food, etc.
Hi, just a few notes about Veliko Tărnovo and Bulgarian kitchen. First of all, the Bulgarian people love to eat …. a lot. So the portions are not family sized it’s just Bulgarian sized. The patatnik is very famous dish in Rodopa mountain region. Veliko Tărnovo is the third Bulgarian capital and become capital of the second Bulgarian kingdom , after Bulgaria get its freedom from eastern Roman Empire. The carevec fortress is actually the king residence and is archeological artefact , that’s why there is almost only ruins ( sorry about the absence of English notes about the history of the place) . I know all this because I’m from Plovdiv ,the oldest city in Europe and one of the oldest cities in the world. And it’s time to stop because I probably start being boring. Thanks for all the good words and recommendations for my country and I can assure you that there is a lot more places in Bulgaria that’s are totally magical.
Bilyar is the 1st Bulgarian capital, Pliska is the 2nd, Preslav is the 3rd, Veliko Tarnovo is the 4th, Sofia is the 5th. This excludes Kiev and Moscow, because they were not the main capital cities.

Nice presentation 👌 There's tons of stuff to do in & around Veliko Tarnovo, from hiking, swimming in great rivers & exploring Roman ruins & old Communist buildings if you want something different. Great place!
I remember there was a short re-occuring audio message in English when we were in the Tsarevetz fortress telling basic historical facts about the place. I thought the voice was familiar, but couldn't recollect whose it was. Then it turned out it was recorded by Alan Rickman. This was really a surprise. He was a great actor, not only as Professor Snape, but also in Robin Hood, Sense and Sensibility and other movies.
I am glad to hear you liked all you see and especially the food in Bulgaria! For my opinion you went too late in Tsarevets and you did not see Balduinova kula and remains from the Castle there, also a rock where the girls went down from because they did not wish to get the Islam religion. In Bulgaria you can find many other small towns and villages with a topical old architecture like Jeravna, Melnik, Kopritshtitsa, Zlatograd, Bansko, Old Plovdiv and many other places that are famous with different things like Etera, Damascena, Testi Mali grad. Should be seen also Pliska and Preslav that were also old capital cities of Bulgaria. There are many interesting monasteries in Bulgaria, unique Caves and many places with old remains. Unfortunately long years under Turkish government were the years when Turkish destroyed our old cities, so why now we have only remains from this long period of time. There are also a few big winter resorts for saying in Bulgaria like Bansko, Pamporovo, Borovets, Vitosha. There are some places also for Birdwatching in Bulgaria. Our high mountains also has an alpine view and are nice places for hiking but this you know already. 😀 There are many and many places of interests you can go and see in Bulgaria, I recommend you all you read here! 👍
Thanks a lot for the video. I was allways thinking about visiting to Trnova but delayed it for several reasons, but after watching this video, I am certain that I will go this summer. Actually my ancestors are from Trnova and they were exiled and refuged from there to Turkey about 150 years ago, but my family always have been proud of our Balkan roots. Those foods you ate are also made by grandmother, so my next visit will be there to search my roots.
All Englishmen are welcome in my country, as they welcomed me in the England of the time. I know that you are not in the EU now, but there is always a place for you in Bulgaria. If I were you, I would buy a property in Bulgaria, as opposed to France, Germany, etc. countries - the most English is spoken in the Netherlands and Bulgaria. And the prices are ridiculous, for a property in such wonderful nature. It's not a desert like Spain or a Scandinavian winter. Let's not forget that Greece is nearby, but the heat is murderous there, so you live in Bulgaria and go to the sea in Greece for 1 hour by car. Or on the Black Sea in Bulgaria. Constantinople (Istanbul) is also close to you. Bulgaria is mythical, Hercules, Alexander the Great, Orpheus were born here and even his grave was discovered. in Bulgaria and many others. It was the center of the world in ancient times.(Bulgaria)
So "Glarus" is better than the beer you drink "Kaminitsa". Zatecky Hus is the best beer (IMO). It's not bulgarian beer but it's made in Bulgaria. I recommend trying it!
The town was destroyed by the Otomans around 1396, they were so mad because of the resistence Bulgarians put up so they did not left two stones ontop of each other, this is why the fortress is only in ruins.
Hey you 2, pretty good videos about my country Bulgaria. There's tons of stuff to do in & around Veliko Tarnovo, from hiking, swimming in great rivers & exploring Roman ruins & old Communist buildings if you want something different. Great place!
One of our favorite tourist destinations in Bulgaria 🇧🇬
Hi From Bangladesh. & New Subscriber ❤️
I am from Bulgaria🇧🇬 ❤Аз съм от България🇧🇬 ❤
Right next to the fortress is Mini-Bulgaria. Gorgeous collection of replicas of buildings and structures.
There are many and many places of interests you can go and see in Bulgaria, I recommend you all you read here!
Bulgaria is also the land of Dionysius
Да живее и пребъде....Империята на Духът и Светлината наречена още....България!!
Hi guys !
You are such a inspiration for me and i really love your vlog so much.
You inspired me and i wish you reach 100 k very soon ! 🤩🤩
Hi! So glad to hear this - thank you!
You must visit Arbanasi very close to where you are , its beautiful .
That's such a sad history. Glad to see the town as it is today though - beautiful.
@@KeepGoingPlaces, wellcome to my hometown :)

And also some more historical information too.like the Rila monastery is like 12 century or less..that be nice to put a bit more historical facts, yes beer, rakia and food is the best in my country. By the way I live in Florida over 16 years and I always miss our Bulgarian food and drinks, traditional.👍❤️

I've been there for the past 3 weeks
Btw , the churches inside in Bulgaria has completely different view! These are new paintings. Churches in Bulgaria looks like the Rila monastery you saw!
You must go to the wonderful bridges in the Rhodopes mountain road and the Belogradchik rocks. If you can go to begliktash too
