If you close your eyes and listen to the acoustic guitar sound from the DGX, you won't tell that it actually comes from a keyboard! 😯🤯
Yup. Super-articulation is good.
Yamaha has been nailing acoustic and electric guitar sounds ever since they released the Motif ES way back in 2003. No other manufacturer comes remotely close with the possible exception of Roland.... But even then Roland doesn't win!
Another company's is a complete joke. Just like the Steinway setting on my acoustic banjo.
There's no doubt!!! This comparison put in evidence in a higher step Dgx670, of better quality in all sides!!!!!
In terms of the sound quality, features and functions and abilities, the Yamaha DGX-670 wins, but as far as the ease of use is concerned, the Korg XE-20 wins. However, my vote goes to the DGX-670. Love the high-quality piano voices and the auto accompaniment rhythms.
I bought a DGX 650 in 2015, and I think I did the best choise for this price!! I adore Yamaha's pianos!!
I was just thinking about a portable 88 key keyboard, for the weighted keys, and was looking at both of these. If I get one, now I know which. I just wish yamaha would quit underpowering their speaker systems. Thanks always for your fair and impartial reviews/comparisons.
DGX 670 definitely win, since it incorporated top-level PSR-S sounds and features while the XE20 is based on the mid-level EK50

Planning to buy the Yamaha PSR SX600
Do you recommend it to an intermediate level pianist?
I have had an order in for a DGX since you first promoted it. I hope it ships pretty soon as my life expectancy is not that great. I knew the DGX was going to carve the Korg, which does sound pretty good. Unfortunately the Korg's keybed gets poor reliability reviews. The DGX just sounds great. It seems hard to beat for the price.
Another great video, Jeremy. The Korg sounds good, but other than their tube driven Stage piano, the brand has never been my favorite. The Yamaha is light years ahead in so many ways. Such a great keyboard at the price point. The much more expensive Roland RD 88 eould still be my first choice, but the DGX 670 still holds it's own with the sounds and many unique features and overall appearance, build, design, and user interface.

Funny so many people say how advanced the Yamaha DGX 670 is but are people not realising it's still not as advanced as the high end Yamaha CVP line clavinovas from 2004. I've been waiting all these years for a product like the 670 to come out to finally mean I have a fully weighted 88 keys with some of the really old clavinova features. If you wanted something like this is the past the best you could do is get a PSR SX900 and midi control it with a weighted 88 stage piano... which is massive effort. I can't believe how slow all the manufacturers are to have made something like this.

Hi Jeremy, as usual an interesting and in fact valuable review. One thing I found myself wishing for was for you to have taken a selection of the most useful voices and play the same piece of music on each. For example, you open with playing the piano on each, but with highly-contrasted music, so it was hard to decide which sounded better (of course these were just as an opener and not intended as detailed comparisons). May I be so bold as to add a few comments that may be helpful to a newcomer. You mention that there is a significant difference between the 'feel' or 'weight' of the actions. This, as you know but a beginner may not, is common in even the best acoustic pianos and, as you say, is a matter of personal choice. Although essentially implicit in your closing remarks, to the less experienced buyer, don't be deceived by the number of voices or of styles. (Using random figures) 600 voices on one keyboard and 1000 on another is unimportant. You are unlikely to ever need either quantity, and as Jeremy states, it's the quality of those voices and the flexibility the keyboard provides in using them which is very much more important. Similar observations apply to styles. Then don't ignore the other features mentioned, such as ease of accessing parameters, versatility in recording options etc. - all are important in a piano that is also an arranger keyboard. [Again Jeremy, p;ease forgive the intrusion of these additional comments to what is not only an excellent review but also an unbiased one.]

Great review. I think Korg is going to revamp with updated features to match Yamaha. If they keep their performance integration advantages they will get my money.

Good boy! - Very well done, detailed and thorough review. For the DGX-670, the only flaw is the weight! For the rest there are no comparisons, from what has emerged in the descriptions, about the possibilities of the two instruments.

You are the only one I watched, of all the popular UA-cam reviewers for synthesizers and stage pianos, etc., that used a Christian song as a song sample. Because of that, not only you get a 'Like!' (not that it matters much, I think) but I also hit 'Subscribe!' I have already been eyeing DGX670 as my first digital piano to buy this year, and now because of your great review about it I am more determined to buy it for my personal use, especially since I am a music minister at our church. That DGX-670 is a “sleeper”. Yamaha is majorly downplaying what they released, as I can only assume they’re staying mum about it to protect the upper line. That DGX is a full 88 key arranger workstation. The sequencer is 16 tracks with editing, voices can be edited, styles can be edited, and user styles created from scratch, plus it records audio. It’s like an 88 key S670 with improved sound and styles. I’ll be getting the DGX-670 with the 3 pedal unit when Sweetwater has them in stock. There is just really no comparison IMO, Yamaha has decimated Korg here. As usual.., great video Jeremy!

Oh, and the 670 is damn worth it, glad the guys at Kraft made no fuzz about returning the 660 I got first from them, the 6-month wait was really worth it in the end.
The bad thing about the dgx670 is that it does not have a stereo output (L and R) for external speakers, only a mono output for headphones and even worse, its integrated speakers are mediocre. I'd better go with the Roland fp60X piano despite having fewer options.

What sold me is that in one video (DGX-670 vs FP-30X I think) you say something like 'Yamaha is years ahead, it will take many years for the competition to catch up if they ever do'. Excellent comparison, Jeremy. I love the rich sounds of Yamaha, and the organic like analog sounds in this instruments. Korg is a good option too, in other range of products, IMO. The Dgx 670 is like my e463 with steroids hehe, I love it.

If you remember our last debate under video where you presented Korg Wavestate and I said that Woody didn’t want to compare me sounds between Yamaha MODX and Yamaha PSR SX900. You said me probably because Yamaha is one of his sponsors and he didn’t want to offend Yamaha. Now I think it’s not the case (Yamaha is one of his sponsors but it’s not the reason) because after I saw that recently he compared sounds between new Korg Nautilus and Yamaha MODX not in one but in several different videos. Anyway as I said before, his presentations and comparisons are not informative as yours. For example here you talked about every aspect of both keyboards and as in all your presentations it’s easy to make decision which keyboard is better for you.
BTW I’m considering buying Roland Jupiter XM, what do you think about it? I like it because it’s small, because I live in apartment not the house so it takes less space than Roland Jupiter X, just I’m a little worried about small keys. And what do you think about hardware vs software synths in music production? And if I may ask you why you don’t do more often videos about synths? I mean I like arranger keyboards and your channel is one of rare that is about arranger keyboards, just maybe sometimes you can make some exception like you did with Korg Waveste. But on the other hand, you know what is the best content for your channel. Anyway continue with good work! :))

I love my DGX-650, and this is just a successor to it.
Korg has never been known for good pianos. Yamaha, Roland, Kurzweil are much better. 256 note polyphony is so much richer than 128. I own 2 Yamahas, 2 Roland's, and 2 Korgs, so believe Me, lol. This DGX 670 has huge stereo speakers too. You don't always need an Amp, unless you're playing onstage with a band. For the money, the DGX 670 is AWESOME!!!

Unfortunately the dgx670 has mediocre speakers, but the worst thing is that it does not have a stereo output (L/R) for external speakers. This makes you doubt whether to buy or not buy.

I at one point thought of going with the yamaha DGX 670 but the fact it's 46 pounds is a deal breaker for me I take my digital piano with me to lessons. I'm not sure about getting the korg xe20 or casio px s3000.or what I should get. I do want something with a really good steel string guitar patch I believe the korg xe20 has but the key noise concerns me.

I would rather have a Yamaha S90ES it is so amazing with tons of layering, arpegiator fx and just way more, balanced hammer action with after touch, it's older but the I/O are numerous, I would have bought the order keyboard and have all of that with great piano sounds etc. What is similar to that model currently .. that one was really amazing for ease but tons of fx

The recent series of Yamaha like PSR- SX, DGX670 or CLP series are simply way ahead of other brands imo. The sound quality is much better.

Hello Kenaz, please give a 2nd thought for Korg XE20. The keybed is not with satisfactory quality. I have XE20 for 5 months now but some of the keys already started making noise. I am not happy with the Keybed. If you are going to spend most of the time with piano playing you may consider Korg D1. It has very high quality keybed which Korg uses for their high end keyboard like Kronos. But keep in mind D1 doesn't have built in speakers.

The funny thing is, right now, XE20 is selling for HK$4,680 while DGX670 is HK$5,980, so now XE20 is closer in price to EW425, at least here. Maybe you can compare those two?
I like Korg gear but it's hard to beat Yamaha voices and styles.
My church is purchasing a DGX 670 and will be running it through the sound system. Is the earphone jack adaquate for that? The pastor and I love the sound but it's got to perform as a stage piano.

The 670 will be available in the US in Spring of 2022. The Korg is available now, but Jeremy markets it anyway. I didn't know this, but Jeremy does market some keyboards that are available now.

The headphone jack on your DGX-670 is really “noisy”. All three of the Yamaha keyboards I bought recently I returned because of this issue. Why can’t a powerhouse company like Yamaha make a headphone jack that doesn’t hiss at any and all volumes? The sound coming from your KORG is crystal clear at the same price point! I played a KORG i3 last week, zero noise from the headphone jack.
You're right. Wait till you listen to Yamaha's PSS-A50 headphones out... Noise floor is so high it's unusable.
@@JeremySee Ha! I bought the PSS-A50 last year after watching your reviews. On paper it’s super cool, but that ridiculous noise was a deal breaker. I actually returned it and got a second. Not only were their headphone jacks noisy, the onboard speaker hissed even with volume completely down to where you couldn’t hear anything from the keyboard besides noise. I ended up returning them both...disgusted.

In Europe, the XE20 is currently a bit cheaper than the DGX-670. And as you mention, it also has proper lineouts, more onboard sound power, and it weighs about half as much as the DGX-670. This makes it the versatile portable piano that Yamaha has entirely failed to produce in recent years - ever since they deleted the P-255. And the P-255 did not have any arranger features anyway.
The only Yamaha pianos which compete with this Korg in terms of both connectivity and portability are the P-125 & P-121, and these are short on other features that we're looking at here. They are also stuck with the oudated GH action.
IMO Yamaha digital piano sounds are unbeatable, nevertheless, a lot of players use the DGX-670 for controlling the Pianoteq virtual pianos.
If I had to choose between these two digital pianos, the deciding factor would be the action. You say that the DGX-670's GH action is heavier (therefore more pianistic?) but I know that it is also sluggish. I wonder if can you play quick arpeggios securely on the XE20.
Hi Mike, as you know I have the DGX-670, but I have also played the Korg XE20. Its piano sounds are mediocre, I think you would be highly disappointed with that since you are used to the quality piano sounds of your P255. The styles are fine, but they are outdated. In fact, they are the styles of the old Korg PA60, which I bought back in 2000 and owned for many years. Yamaha styles are more refined. The Korg speaker system is really tiny, consisting of small oval speakers. The 18 watts per channel is just a number, don't expect anything amazing from it. The DGX-670 has a better speaker system, fuller and louder. I know the specs may seem to indicate otherwise, but I am familiar with both instruments in person. The proper line outs are not a relevant issue, as you can use a 1/4" stereo to two 1/8" mono cable, something I have done many times with the DGX-670 and DGX-660 (I owned the 660 before too). The one thing this Korg has over Yamaha is portability. I don't remember the XE20 action enough to give you feedback on it, but it didn't feel remarkable when I played it. The Yamaha is superior in many other aspects. The XE20 fails to provide the most basic feature it should have: good piano tone. Korg has mediocre piano sounds. You probably remember the M50, Triton, etc, workstations: they all had mediocre piano sounds compared to Yamaha. They haven't made a whole lot of progress in their digital pianos, I played the LP180 and B2 as well and they are weak. One thing the Korg digital pianos have is a quiet action, similar to the Roland FP90X in the sense they make little noise. But that comes at the price of feeling sluggish... so, I doubt you would find those actions any better than the GH in the Yamaha's.

I am 54 years old and I have not practiced for 35, I was enthusiastic and from your videos I know you know a lot, these voices can be integrated or used by usb memory ?. I have an ancient DGX 220 with bangy and sticky keys (someone previous owner spilled something on it). Looking for a major upgrade on the piano sound most specifically, in the price range of the DGX series give or take. Thought about a Juno DS88 for synth stuff, but they're getting older now. I like doing a bit of everything so need a versatile keyboard. I use an M-Audio Keystation 88EI with FL Studio and Nexus 2 plugins also. I owned a Heintzman cabinet grand and nothing compares to the rich bassy tones of that acoustic piano. Looking for something rich, vibrant, and realistic.
Yamaha. Korg has that triton like sound and that piano sound wasn’t the best at all. I kinda want that dgx. It’s like a workstation with all the in depth configuration.

I'm shocked the DGX 670 does not have a pair of 1/4" outputs. That makes it a $799 home keyboard. Whereas the Korg is a $799 gigging keyboard.
Pisses me more knowing that it probably cost them 10 cents to add a second 1/4" port for stereo outputs, but they decided not to. I bet you can add one yourself if you have some DIY skills, just some light drilling and soldering.
The manual on page 97 or 98 depending on the language, shows that the output is 1/4 Stereo, if you want to add more technology, there is a bluetoot adapter that can be added and thus connect some good headphones without cables that bother you, at the same time. Raising the level of technology by purchasing accessories will raise the value of the instrument and its ease of use.
A non issue. Mannys Music Brisbane supplied me a 3 metre stereo audio connection cable for $30 that has the mini stereo jack to plug into the headphone socket at the back of the DGX-670 keyboard and two 1/4” jacks to plug into each of my PreSonus stereo powered monitors and this works perfectly well and sounds fabulous, as on the keyboard menu options one can also select to also have the audio sounding from the internal speakers as well! >> 4 speakers audio sounds fabulous!

The DGX-670 Arranger home recorder keyboard is wonderful, and very enjoyable - especially with the two types of auto accompaniments: full accompaniment instruments, or, minimal accompaniment of only the bass guitar and drums & percussion instruments with each & every style! Fabulous value and fab’ features, it’s the best home digital piano 🎹 I have ever owned & played.
Hello Jeremy, thank you very much for the comparison. I have Korg XE20 about a 5 months now. One thing I would like to share with all of you that the Keybed of XE20 is not quality one. Within 5 months time frame some of the keys already started making noise which I didn't expect. But speakers are excellent with very high quality sound.

Nevermind, I re-watched the video and misunderstood what you said. There is a mono output shared with the headphone port. Thanks for the detailed information!
The manual on page 97 or 98 depending on the language, shows that the output is 1/4 Stereo, if you want to add more technology, there is a bluetoot adapter that can be added and thus connect some good headphones without cables that bother you, at the same time. Raising the level of technology by purchasing accessories will raise the value of the instrument and its ease of use.
