I was stranded in Asheville on Saturday with my 77 year old sister trying to get home to Tenneessee. We were adopted by a woman in a parking lot who took us to her home, and gave us a roof and safety. Her neighbor, who had a generator fed us. The rest of the neighbors contributed. In their worst moment, they welcomed two strangers.

Many of the States have a pact with the others so that if one needs help, the other sends it. Standard billing is 1.5 times the salary and the sending State takes care of everything else. crews go on normally a two week basis and then another batch comes in for two weeks while the first crew goes back home. Power companies have a similar setup which is why you often see company vehicles from half way across the US working alongside the local crews.

I'm quite certain, the person believes caring about the children, elderly and disabled was a no-brainer, and didn't need to be mentioned.
It should go without saying that these families snatched up their family members first and foremost.
Pets are often included in the word "family."
If there is hope, then the community has taken care of the nursing home residents as well. It's just been seen plenty of times where the house pets are left behind to basically fend for themselves. I BELIEVE that's what the commenter meant. Take care, neighbor. 👍🏽

Hundreds of bridges and roads were washed away leaving people on the mountain sides stranded with no way out even if they and their houses and cars are OK. Too many memories of good experiences up and down these streets. I want my Asheville back. When I finally received a call from friends 48hrs after at 4am I was given a horrific account of events. People hostage in their own neighborhoods, for those able to bypass Asheville and find lines at gas station not realizing that workers were stranded at their homes. Friends who worked in hospitals reporting all staff levels overwhelmed and rising body counts.
I feel like we are going back in time because it will take years to get through this.
On another note..the DNC and the RNC better have a backup plan for these areas to be included or excluded from voting in this election. For all intended purposes, these once thriving cities and towns have been temporarily erased from existence.
God never gives us more than we can handle. I hope we can handle and support those in need during this nightmare.

I read today the USPS has stated it is ending service to many of these postal codes. Idk if true but worth investigating. We have to help these people recover. Today and for a long time. Just like the people of Lahaina that were burned to death, the government didn't help them, still is not helping them. FEMA Red Cross came, saw, stayed un luxury hotels feeling justified in doing so, they confiscated donations from other islanders and locked the goods in a warehouse, didn't distribute. Oprah bought pillows from Walmart for some people at the civic center while she was in stunned mode salivating at the thought of buying more Maui property, which she has since the 8.8.2023 fires (not wild).
